Mrs. Coteal Thurman Holt Obit

MRS. COTEAL THURMAN HOLT – AGE 90, – Of San Diego, California, the eldest of seven children born to the union of Ernest and Johnnie Mae Gaines Thurman, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Charles, Hamp, Johnny Thurman and Wilbert Robbins.

Survivors are sister, Rev. Annie Mae Sturdivant of Chattanooga, TN; one devoted niece, Brenda (David L.) Williamson of Summerville, GA; nephews, James (Glenice) Thurman of Rome, GA; Vernon (Sandra) Thurman of Summerville, GA; stepsister, Mrs. Earnestine Ramson of Canton, MS; sister-in-law, Mae West of Philadelphia, PA; and countless friends and neighbors.

Mr. Billy Joe Bowman Obit

Mr. Billy Joe Bowman, age 77, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 18, 2011 at Floyd Medical
Center.
Mr. Bowman was born March 23, 1934 in Trion, GA, the son of the lateThornton Randolph
and Lottie Beatrice Holcomb Bowman. He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the United
States Navy. Mr. Bowman was a member of the VFW #6688 and the American Legion Post # 129.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Bowman.
Survivors include his wife, Claris Bowman; son, Michael Bowman; daughter, Lisa Bowman;
step-daughter, Debbie Ray; grandchildren, Scott Bowman and Jessica Bowman; brother-in-law
and sister-in-law, W. C. Ray and Effie Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 2011in the Mason Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Larry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery.

Mr. Charles Edward "Charlie" Snider, age 77 of Summerville, GA died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at
his residence.
Mr. Snider was born October 28, 1933 in Cedartown, GA, son of the late Edward and Lillie Mae
Rainwater Snider. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the State of Georgia. Mr. Snider
was preceded in death by his son, Gary Kenton Brown.
Mr. Snider is survived by his wife, Alberta "Bert" Johnson Snider; daughter and son-in-law,
Beverly Kay and Alfredo Nazario; daughter-in-law, Becky Brown; brother, Don Snider;
grandchildren, Sherry Elsberry and Buffy Stephens, Vince Nazario; great-grandchildren,
Mason and Jackson Elsberry, Bruce Vaughn, Jr., Aaron Nazario, Ashley Nazario and Randy
Stephens, Jr, niece, Susan Vincente.

Mrs. Anita Holt Venn, age 74 of 955 Pine Street, Trion, GA passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 at her residence.  Mrs. Venn was born October 13, 1936 in Trion, GA.  Mrs. Venn was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion.  Mrs. Venn was a Bookkeeper by profession.
   Mrs. Venn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ralph (Ton) and Foy Williams Holt; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Lutrelle Holt.
   Mrs. Venn is survived by her husband, William Venn of Trion, GA; son, Thomas Venn of Trion, GA; grandsons, Aaron and Andrew Venn of Trion, GA.
   Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 18, 2011 at 2:00 p..m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral home with Rev. David Autry and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruby Baggett obit

Mrs. Ruby J. Baggett, age 94, of Lyerly, GA, the Oakhill Community died Friday, July 15, 2011 at
Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Baggett was born July 11, 1917, in Cherokee County Alabama, was retired from Mohawk
Carpet, and a member of the Oakhill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a Sister, Nell Stevens, and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday July 17, 2011, at the Oakhill United Methodist
Church with Rev. Jack Gillespie and Rev. Bill Adams officiating with interment in the Church
Cemetery.
Mrs. Baggett will lie in state at Oakhill United Methodist Church and the family will receive
friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Mr. Jerry Eugene "Jake" Thomas, age 71, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, July 14, 2011
at Erlanger Medical Center.
Mr. Thomas was born January 25,1940, in Jamestown, AL, the son of the late Jack Starling
and Maggie Tankersley Thomas. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters,
Sylvia Huskey, Lois Bean, and Betty Grant, and a brother, Jack R. Thomas.
Survivors include sisters, Bobbie Watkins and Ruth Rogers; brothers, Randy Thomas and
James L. Thomas; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the chapel of Mason
Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Ami Cemetery.

Mr. Johnny Jones Obit

 

Mr. Johnny Jones, age 74 of Silver Circle, Summerville, GA passed away Thursday,

July 14, 2011 at his residence.  Mr. Jones was born in Summerville, GA on July 15, 1936. 

 He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills with 43 years of service and was co-owner of India

Pride Variety.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and singing at church.   He was a member of

the Quarter Century Club.  Mr. Jones was a member and chairman of Deacons of the

Harrell Street Church of God.

   Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Jones; daughter, Velenia

Kennett; father and mother, Charlie and Birdie Mantooth Jones; sisters, Lorene Taylor and Mary

 Petty; and brother, Buddy Jones.

   Survivors are wife, Pat Jones of Summerville, GA; daughter, Debra (Jessie) Crider of Rome,

GA, sons, Johnny Franklin (Marlene) Jones of Dallas, GA and Sonny (Devin) Jones of Harlan,

Mr. Middleton Miles “Mid “Allen III Obit

Mr. Middleton Miles "Mid" Allen, III, age 69, 0f Armuchee, GA died Wednesday, July 13, 2011
at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Allen was born April 13, 1942 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Middleton Miles
Allen, JR and Naomi Bowling Allen. He was a retired Union Carpenter and a member of the
Summerville Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 704 and the
Jaycee Yaarab Shrine Club. Mr. Middleton was a graduate of Darlington School and Southern
Tech. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Allen; sons, Middleton Miles Allen, IV and William Andrew
"Andy" Allenand wife, Whitney Allen; brother, Jack Allen; grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Josh
Allen, Jackson Allen, and Karsyn Allen; and 1 Great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with
Bro. Barry Peppers officiating. Burial will be in Alpine Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be
Buddy Chisolm, Mike Woodall, Ron Edwards, Billy Cook, members of Masonic Lodge #704,
and members of the Yaarab Shrine Club.
Mr. Allen will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from

Mr. James Doyle Willmon Obit

Mr. James Doyle Willmon, age 55 of Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Willmon was born in Rome, Georgia on May 14, 1956, son of the late James L. Willmon and Eulala Garrett Willmon. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Willmon attended the Pennville Church of Christ, was 2nd Lt. Commander of the Chattooga County Camp 507 Sons of Confederate Veterans and prior to his retirmement, was employed as Corrections Officer with Hays State Prison.
Mr. Willmon is survived by his wife, Edith Willmon; daughters, Andrea Willmon and Stephanie Willmon; sister, Lynn Norton; and grandsons, Caden Willmon Cordell and Garrett Spear.
Funeral Services for Mr. Willmon will be held Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Minister Robbie Eversole officiating. Private Interment will follow at a later date.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Mitchell, Clay Smith, Caden Willmon Cordell and Garrett Spear.
