MR. SAMUEL BLACK, JR. – Age 74 – of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. He was a member of West Fifth Street Church Of Christ. He was retired from Mohawk Industries.

Survivors are his loving family, wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Annie Laura Watkins Black; three sons, Mr. Jerome (Cresentia) Black of Summerville, Georgia, Mr. Wendell (Trudi) Black of Corona, California, Mr. Reagan (Cynthia) Black of Lyerly, Georgia; daughters, Ms. Adrienne Black of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Ms. Shirley Scott of Tampa, Florida ; four grandchildren, Antoan Black of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Damon (Jazma) Black of Summerville, Braden Black, Bradley Black of Lyerly, Georgia; four great grandchildren, Aliyah Black, Dakhari Black, Damoni Black, Kadynce Black; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Byron, Mrs. Carrie Young, all of Summerville; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Homegoing Service will be Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at West Fifth Street Church Of Christ with Bro. J. J. Bankston and Bro. John Lewis officiating. Mrs. Winifred Miller Doster obit

MRS. WINIFRED MILLER DOSTER, age 100, of Summerville, Georgia died Friday, June 3, 2011, at Oak View Nursing Center in Summerville. Winifred was born April 7, 1911, in Ellijah, Georgia, to Margaret Elizabeth Holt (1872-1960) and Wesley Jones Miller (1865-1946). She was a 1936 graduate from the University of Georgia in Home Economics. She worked several years as a Home Economics teacher, then for the Farmers Home Administration until she married George Edward Doster (1900-1985) in 1946. She returned to work for the Department of Family and Children’s Services until retirement in 1965 at age 65.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Alice Parker, Summerville; two sons, George Doster, Jr., Kentucky, and Jim Doster, Carrollton, Georgia; five grandchildren-David Doster, Angie Doster, Jacob Doster, Desmond Parker, and Andrew Parker two great grandchildren-Tyler Doster and Drake Doster.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 5th, from Horizon Baptist Fellowship with the Reverend Jimmy Bryant and Doctor Jerry Mahan officiating, interment in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mark Gordon, Clint Hunter, Frank Ward, Benji Price, Greg Shaw, Todd Taylor. Mrs. Jo Ann Fletcher

Mrs. Jo Ann Fletcher, age 73, of Summerville, GA passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Fletcher was born August 7, 1937 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Myrtle May Hardy. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Fletcher was a life time member of Lookout Hall Church of Christ. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Fletcher; and a sister, Marcie Hardy.

Survivors include her children, Donald Fletcher, Teloga, GA, Eugene Fletcher, Denver, CO, Margaret Ann and husband, Joe Myers, Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Josh Daniels officiating. Burail will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sammy Lee, Tim Thompson, Larry Cook, John Stubbs, Kelly Young,and Wes Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Lookout Hall Church of Christ.

Mrs. Fletcher will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 p. m. until the service hour on Sunday.

Mr. James Clifford “Jim” Campbell

Mr. James Clifford "Jim" Campbell, age 82, of Cloudland, GA died Friday, June 3,2011 at his residence.

Mr. Campbell was born March 19, 1929 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late Clyde Pope Campbell and Audrey Staton Campbell. He was a self-employed painter. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lucille Wofford Campbell.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Dennis Brown; sons, George "Gus" Campbell and James Michael Campbell; grandchildren, Kimberly Brown, Wendy Spillman, Christina Post, Erin Chavez, and Wesley Campbell; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Post, Logan Post, Jaselyn Post, Camden Chavez, Avery Spillman, and Lucillia Brown.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 2:00 until 4:00 p. m. at the home of Teresa Brown at 28945 Hwy. 157, Cloudland, GA.

Mr. Campbell will be cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Jimmie Duke Jones obit

MRS. JIMMIE DUKE JONES, age 72, of Lyerly, GA passed away Wednesday evening,(June 1, 2011), at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Jones was born July 9, 1938 in Trion, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clifford and Mary John Ellenburg Fowler. She was retired from Georgia Rug Mill Data Precessing and was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Her husband, Max Roland Jones, preceded her in death January 8, 2005.

Survivors include a Daughter and Son-in-law, Lynn and Mike Stull; Son and Daughter-in-law, Tony and Denise Jones; Grandchildren, Morgan Stull, Summer Jones and Rose Jones all of Lyerly.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 P.M. from Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Gillespie and Rev. Bill Adams officiating, interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Larry Ray Hamilton Obit

Mr. Larry Ray Hamilton, age 63, of Lyerly, GA died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hamilton was born September 30, 1947 in Chattooga County, GA the son of the late Horace L. Hamilton and Foy Nell Cavin Hamilton. He was a Liberty National Life agent. Mr. Hamilton was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. Other than his parents, Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Hamilton.

Survivors include his son, Shannon Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Hamilton and Danny Allen; brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Glenda Hamilton; grandchildren, Lauren Hamilton, Peyton Hamilton, and Kristen Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Fowler and Rev. Everett Gossett officiating. MR. LARRY JUNIOR GENTRY, age 61, of Gaylesville, Alabama formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the residence. Born in Summerville, Georgia on February 1, 1950 He was a son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Cochran Gentry. Mr. Gentry was retired from the Needling Department of Mohawk Mills.

Surviving are daughter-Susie Shaw of Lyerly; son-Wayne Gentry of Summerville; sister-Dorothy Basham of Nashville, TN., Elaine Webb of Boise, Idaho, & Diane Dotson of Summerville; brother-Douglas Gentry & Douglas Gentry of Gaylesville, AL.; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday (June 3rd) at 1:00 P.M. from the West Summerville Baptist Church, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Mrs. Sarah Lavern Smith Obit

 Mrs. Sarah Lavern Smith age 84 of Welcome Hill Road, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at her residence.  Mrs. Smith was born January 9, 1928 in Fort Payne,  AL.  She was Owner and Operator of Smith’s Grocery at Welcome Hill and was a member of The Church of God Northside.     

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, L. E. "Elmo" Smith; father, Anderson Burt and mother, Emma Sharpe Burt; brothers, Shelton Burt, Winston Burt, and Raymond Burt; sisters, Mildred Hardeman; niece, Sara Elizabeth Burt.     

Survivors are daughter, Marie Watson of Trion, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Elizabeth Whitt of Douglasville, GA; granddaughters and husband, April and Roger Millican, Cindy Harris,  Lori and Chris Baggett, Andi and Ronnie Sherer, and Sherri and Kurt Long; great-grandchildren, Sarah Millican, Robin Millican, Andrew Baggett, C. J.  Graveside services will be conducted Friday, June 3, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Dietz officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.      

Mrs. Smith will lie-in-state on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM.

Mrs. Gussie M. Stansell Obit

MRS. GUSSIE M. STANSELL, age 84, of Trion, Georgia, Teloga Community, passed away Wednesday morning at her residence. Born on March 5, 1927 in Walker County, She was a Daughter of the late N. J. Pettyjohn, Sr. and Julia Jones Pettyjohn. Mrs. Stansell was a member of Shattuck Blvd. Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her husband the late John Wesley Stansell.

Surviving are daughters and husbands-Debbie & Gene Smith and Judy & John Jenkins all of Teloga; son and wife-Randall & Dreama Spears of Dalton; brother-Nichols J. Pettyjohn, Jr. of Teloga; grandchildren-Missy Hogan, Crissy Geiger both of LaFayette and Randy Spears of Menlo; great grandchildren-Tyler Spears, Kaylan Hogan, and Julia Hogan; several Nieces and Nephews.
