Mrs. Ella Mae Fairfax Hendrix, Obit (ER)

Ella Mae Fairfax Hendrix, 92, of Clover, SC passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at home.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August  16th at Summerville City Cemetery, Summerville, GA. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 19th at the First United Methodist Church, Clover, SC.

Ella Mae Hendrix was born October 14, 1924, in Fairbluff, NC, Columbus County, to the late Curtis and Ruth Floyd Fairfax.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Lewis Hendrix, her brother Charles Fairfax, and her sister Ovaline Barberousse.

She graduated from Fairbluff High school, North Carolina.  She met her husband while vacationing with her cousin in Georgia, married, and moved to Chatooga county Georgia and lived there for 50 years until relocating to Clover, South Carolina, in 2007 to be closer to their only daughter and her family.  She was a dedicated homemaker, worked in a variety of positions throughout the years including owning a chicken egg farm with her husband, and was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church.

Ella Mae loved her family and made them her priority.  She loved church, gardening (roses were her favorite!), cooking, and southern gospel singing.  She also had the opportunity to travel across the United States and Europe when visiting Charlotte and Bob at their military base assignments.

Ella Mae is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte H. and Robert Dowd of Clover, South Carolina; two grandchildren: Carin Scott (Ryan) of Cary, NC and Jeff Dowd of Austin, TX; and three great- grandchildren: Jordan, Aidan, and Brenna Scott of Cary, NC; and three nephews and three nieces.

Mrs. Laura Jean Koonce, Obit (M)

Mrs. Laura Jean Koonce, age 75, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Monday August 7, 2017 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Koonce was born August 25, 1941 in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Fred and Geraldine Payton Graves.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Bigelow-Sanford.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Koonce; and sister, Virginia Mitchell.

Survivors include her sons Stanley (Karen) Koonce, and Stacey (Sherry) Koonce, brothers Lavon Graves and Jimmy Graves, sister Linda Graves, grandchildren Jonathan (Lori), Justin, Lindsey and Josh Koonce, great-grandchildren Emily, Katelyn and Alyssa Koonce.

Funeral services for Mrs. Koonce will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 4:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) from the Faith Baptist Church with Bro. J.W. Mitchell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Koonce, Justin Koonce, Josh Koonce, Austin Graves, Paxton Williams, Noah Dean, Hayden Mitchell, and Dakota Williams.  Zach White will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Koonce will be in state at Faith Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Ruby Pauline Middleton, Obit (C)

Mrs. Ruby Pauline Middleton, age 87 of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Middleton was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on May 4, 1930, daughter of the late W.H. Williamson and Bertha Aquilla McGregor Williamson. She was a very dedicated Christian, a loving mother, grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a very loving person and very dedicated to her church, North Summerville Baptist Church for 55 years. She loved gardening and quilting and loved people in general, and her little pet dog “Trissy”. In addition to her parents Mrs. Middleton was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Middleton; sons, Steve Middleton, Thomas Middleton, and Lamar Middleton; numerous brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Middleton is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne Middleton and Martha Faye Middleton; daughter-in-laws, Sheryl Middleton, Phyllis Middleton, Teresa Middleton; brothers, Troy Williamson, Leon Williamson, H.W. Williamson, Jimmy Dale Williamson, Robert Williamson, Billy Williamson, Roy Williamson; sisters, Shirley Harrison, Betty Chamblee, Frances Hardy, Brenda Brown, Linda Russell; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren and numerous Nieces, Nephew, and Cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Middleton will be held Tuesday August 8, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel at Coffman Funeral Home with Brother Tom Russell and Brother Jake Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Durham Mayo, Tommy Middleton, TJ Middleton, Jimmy Carlton, Connor Middleton, and Kevin Middleton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tony Middleton, Matthew Middleton, and William Middleton.

Mrs. Middleton will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Haynie Pickle Speer, Obit (C)

Mrs. Haynie Pickle Speer, age 90 of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Speer was born in Broomtown, Alabama on November 14, 1926, daughter of the late Tim Pickle and Emma Brady Pickle.  She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church, where she taught the Shining Light Sunday School Class for over 50 years.  She retired from Best Manufacturing, and was a charter member of the Best Silver Club.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Speer was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Speer; sisters, Waynie Edge and Maurene Wallin; and brothers, Wilburn Pickle and Harold Pickle.

Mrs. Speer is survived by nieces, Susan King and Barbara McCollum; nephews, Mark Pickle and Gerald Pickle; great nieces, Michelle Strickland, Amelia Davis and Emma Pickle; great nephews, Tim Pickle, Jason Pickle, Clark McCollum, Alex Pickle and Lance King; and a number of great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Speer will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at the South Summerville Baptist Church with Pastor Stanley Smith and Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Tim Pickle, Jason Pickle, Mark Pickle, Gerald Pickle, Greg McCollum, Clint Hunter and Mike King.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Shining Light SS Class, Sheila Stowe, Peggy Stricklin, Tonya Chamlee, Judy Gambill, Harley Strickland, Barbara Young, Ann Hawkins, Malcolm Pickle and Dennis Elrod.

Mrs. Speer will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

MR. ADAM ANDREW WILSON, age 47, of Englewood, Colorado, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia passed away July 24, 2017 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Colorado. Born in Rome, Georgia on December 14, 1969, He was a son of the late Max Alexander Wilson, Sr. and Marsha Ray Wilson who survives. Mr. Wilson was owner and operator of Rocky Mountain Shade of Colorado.

Surviving are His mother, Marsha Ray Wilson; children, Erica Stevens, Richard Stevens, Scott Scroggins, Jennifer Wilson, Randell Teems, and Harley Wilson; sisters, Diane Campbell, Leigh Ann Curtiss, and Deanna Lunn; brothers, Max Wilson, II, Shane Wilson, Heath Wilson, Michael Hancock, Kevin Bently, Anthony Campbell, and Devin Campbell; grandchildren, Gabriella Ann Culberson, Isabella Theressaleaynne Culberson, Lee Lee Gravina, and seven other Grandchildren; fiancée, Jean Gravina; former spouses, Sherry Hines, Beverly Schafer, and Jennifer Greene; aunt, Benita Vogel; cousins, Kristen Postula, Michael Vogel, and the Shirley & Jim McDonald Family.

Mrs. Marilyn Augusta Raines Matyas, Obit (M)

Mrs. Marilyn Augusta Raines Matyas, age 82, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, in Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Matyas was born November 2, 1934, in Summerville, Georgia, the daughter of Lewis Monroe and Jewel Loraine Akins Hammitt.  She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church, the Eastern Star Chapter 434, and preceded in death by her first husband, James C. Raines,  her second husband, Robert N. Matyas, and a son, James Randy Raines

Survivors include her children, Michael and Mary Ann Raines, Steve and Annette P. Raines, brother, Stanley Hammitt, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday July 31, 2017 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Jenkins with interment in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers, Danny Raines, Leevi Raines, Brian Hall, Tony Campbell, Anthony Campbell, Bill Hubbard.  Honorary  pallbearers will be the Staff and employee’s of the Pruitt Health Care.

Mrs. Matyas will  be in state at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel and the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
