Mrs. Katie Mae Ledbetter, age 87, of Gaylesville, AL, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Ledbetter was born April 3, 1927, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Archie Henry Thomas and Maggie Mae Grimes Thomas.  She was a housewife and was a member of the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church, the 20th Century Club, the T.E.L. Sunday School Class, W.M.U., and also served as Church Librarian.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ledbetter was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ledbetter; a sister, Nell Searels Williams; brothers, Glen Thomas and Herman Thomas.
 
Mrs. Ledbetter is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Terry Lawson, Cindy and Herb Skelton; brothers, James Thomas and Ralph Thomas; sister, Bonnie Fleming; grandchildren, Tera and Kevin Walker, Trey and Ashleigh Skelton, Tyler and Kathryn Lawson; 6 great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Linda Watson.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Ledbetter will be held at 7:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Cosby officiating.  Burial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. (E.S.T.) on Wednesday in the Weiss Lake Memorial Garden.  Active pallbearers will be Kevin Walker, Trey Skelton, Mark Searels, Tyler Lawson, Brent Fleming, and Todd Thomas.  Honorary pallbearers will be the T.E.L. Sunday School Class of the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church.
 
Mrs. Ledbetter will be in state at the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) until the service hour on Tuesday.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mr. John Paul “Johnny” Rowlls Obit (M)

Mr. John Paul “Johnny” Rowlls, age 72, of Lyerly, GA, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mr. Rowlls was born April 27, 1942, in Lyerly, GA, son of Julia Mae Bartlett Rowlls and the late Grady Rowlls.  He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Baptist Church and the Parkinson’s Foundation.  He attended Fall College and worked as a truck driver at Mount Vernon Mills for 30 years.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Rowlls; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Terry Daggett.
 
Mr. Rowlls is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Rowlls; sons and daughter-in-law, Jervis Rowlls, Steve and Ellen McMeekin; a daughter, Candy Rowlls; mother, Julia Mae Rowlls; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Gail Rowlls; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Elrod, Martha Sue and Wayne Brown, Dorothy and Bobby Marshall; grandchildren, Shannon Schoenfeld, Jessica Ragan, Jonathan Duncan, Dakota McGuire, Michael Rowlls, Bailey Rowlls, Stevie McMeekin, Tiffany Reyes, and Jason Bryant; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gabrielle Schoenfeld, Destiny Ragan, Paul Ragan, Marianna Ragan, Marissa Ragan, Noah McMeekin, Daniel Duncan, and Connor Duncan.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Rowlls will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Teague and Rev. John McGraw officiating.  Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Charles Daggett, Lamar Pettyjohn, Mark McGraw, Garrett Schoenfeld, Jason Bryant, and Barry Nelson.  Honorary pallbearers will be the truck drivers of Mount Vernon Mills and the Staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mr. Rowlls will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the service hour on Tuesday.

Mr. Alfred Leroy Brown, age 71, of Trion, GA, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mr. Brown was born August 9, 1942, in Trion, GA, son of the late Alfred Lee Brown and Mattie Ruth Maddux Brown.  He was retired from Harriet and Henderson Yarns.
 
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Alva “Nell” Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Regina Brown; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Michael Weeks, Rachel and Steve Bruce, and Amanda Brown; brother and sister-in-law, Edmond and Brenda Brown; sisters, Ann Sweet and Doris Ford; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Ford officiating.  Burial will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Lee Brown, Blake Brown, Doug Gill, Tony Ingle, and Curtis Harris.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Randy Floyd.

Mrs. Ruby Earlene “Sis” Craig, age 73, of the Dickeyville Community, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Floyd Medical Center. 

Mrs. Craig was born in Trion, Georgia on September 1, 1940, daughter of the late John Earl Crider and Mary Frances Ruby Lee Croy Crider. She was employed with the Riegel/Mt. Vernon Mills, working as a battery hand and retired from WireTech, working as a splicer She was member and supporter of the Humane Society and was also a strong supporter of the United States Military and Veterans. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by brothers, Leon Crider, and Kenneth Crider; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Terry. 

Mrs. Craig is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Don Arnett, Delores, John Terry and Becky Bandy and Jerry Gilreath; brothers, Lynn Crider and Johnny Crider; sisters, Charlene Giles; grandchildren, Jessica Yates and Rachael Tanner; great grandchildren, Dawson Hunter Duncan, Noah Lane Duncan, and Jozelyn Tanner; special friend, Marvin Angles and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Craig will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Joel A. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jason Gilland, Jim Gilland, Rusty Maddux, J.J. Bowers, Jeremy Giles, Kevin Martin and Ray Laney.

Mrs. Craig will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mr. Kenneth David (Davie) Rich, age 56, of Rising Fawn, GA, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his residence.
 
Mr. Rich was born July 9, 1958, in Homerville, GA, son of David Rich and the late Geraldine Thornton Rich.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a dredge boat engineer with Merritt Dredging.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Paula Ann Rich.
 
Mr. Rich is survived by his sons, Kenneth Eugene Sellers, Michael Lee Sellers, and Daniel David Rich; a daughter, Rachel Renee Rich; father and step-mother, David and Ann Rich; a brother, James Daniel Rich; a sister, Pamela Justice; and 12 grandchildren.
 
Graveside and interment services for Mr. Rich will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 29,  2014, from the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Billy Wright and Rev. Tony Current officiating.

Mrs. Nancy Jean Stansell Lee, age 64, of the Teloga Community went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, GA.
 
Mrs. Lee was born January 1, 1950, to the late Homer and Dorothy Richmond Stansell.  She worked at Mount Vernon Mills for 35 years and was also a lifelong member of the Beersheba Presbyterian Church. 
 
Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband, Edward “Big E” Lee; a son, Allen Brown; step son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Katie Lee; grandchildren,  Nichole and Chang Stewart, Dakota Lee, Abigayle Lee, and Amelia Grace Lee; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Anisten Stewart; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Lynn Melton, Kathy and Bud Ledford; and several nieces and nephews.
 
A celebration of life for Mrs. Lee will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 25, 2014, from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Westlund officiating.

MRS. CATHERINE VANPELT, age 88, of Summervile, Georgia passed away Tuesday, Jalu 22, 2014, evening in the local nursing home. A Gordon County native, She was born on February 7, 1926 to the late Arch and Arrie Beck Reed. Mrs. Vanpelt was retired from the sewing department of Mars Glove, in LaFayette and was preceded in death by her husbands the late Ray Vanpelt and the late J.C. Miller; a Daughter; sisters, Sallie Reed, Annie Ruth Reed Waddell, and Jettie Benita Lankford, all died earlier.

Surviving are daughter, Tax Commissioner, Kathy Vanpelt Brown of Summerville;
grandson-Greg Brown of Ketchikan, Alaska; other Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25th, at 4 PM from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Chastain officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Mike Vanpelt, Ricky Vanpelt, William Elrod, Jerry Wright, Brandon Gurley, Lann Cordle, and Randy Dalrimple; Honorary Pallbearers the “Angel” Nurses and CNAs of B Hall of Oak View Nursing Home.
