Mr. William E. “Bill” Cordle (ER)

MR. WILLIAM E. “BILL” CORDLE, 82, of North Heights Circle, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 1, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Floyd County, Georgia on April 6, 1932, He was a son of the late Martin Levy and Eula Belle Davis Cordle. Mr. Cordle was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was retired Salesman and truck driver. He was preceded in death by a brother, the late Col. Robert L. Cordle.

Surviving are His wife, Frances Cordle; sisters and brother-in-law, Isabelle and Frank Campbell of Homer, Georgia and Emily Milstead of Rome; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastors’ Ron Pledger, Richey Young, Larry McCoy, Larry Elliott, and Larry Brooks officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers Keith Campbell, David Campbell, Jeff Cordle, Jimmy Young, Jack Young, and Brandon Green; Honorary Pallbearers all former pastors of Midway Baptist Church. MRS. LESLIE FARMER LESTER – AGE 33, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.

She is survived by her husband, LaShaun D. Lester, Sr.; son, LaShaun D. Lester, Jr.; daughter, Zatorria Lester, all of Summerville; mother, Tommie Boykins; father Larry Farmer; brothers, Ladell Boykins and Kevin Boykins; sister, Keshia Farmer of Summerville; father-in-law, Vernon Thurman; mother-in-law, Sandra Thurman; grandfather-in-law, Robert Lester; sisters-in-law, DeShana (Brad) Mosley and Tonya (Brian Wiggins) Thurman; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday July 5, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at New Beginning Baptist Church, 147 East First Street, with Min. Robert Lester and other ministers officiating. Mrs. Louise Brown Helton Obit (M)

Mrs. Louise Brown Helton, age 73, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Helton was born February 20, 1941, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Jack Lawrence Brown and Ava Fulmer Fetner.  She was a member of the Wayside Baptist Church and was a former president and member of the James H. Floyd State Park’s Friends of the Park.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Nettie Brown, and numerous aunts, uncles, and special relatives.

Mrs. Helton is survived by her husband, Thomas Robert Helton; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sherrie Helton; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Christopher McCleskey; brother, Gary Hinton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Howard Dillard, Lucy and Jason Edling; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Memorial services for Mrs. Helton will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Knowles officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

 

Little Miss Alexis DiAnn Evans, Obit. (M)

Miss Alexis DiAnn Evans, age 4, of Trion, GA, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

 

Miss Evans was born September 22, 2009, in Rome, GA, daughter of Joshua Matthew Evans and Lacie Danielle Cason Evans.

 

Survivors include her parents, Joshua Matthew and Lacie Danielle Evans; a brother, Tyson Evans; grandparents, Linda Dale and Billy Johnson, Becky Annette Wilson, and Stanley Evans; and her great-grandmother, Sara Johnson.

 

Funeral services for Miss Evans will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 28, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jake Morrison officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Zachery Payne, Matthew Mealer, Chad Jacome, and Joshua Evans.

MR. Clifford Wesley “TIP” McCollum, Obit. (ER)

MR. CLIFFORD WESLEY “TIP” McCOLLUM, age 88, of Trion, Georgia passed away 
Wednesday morning, June 25, 2014, in a Rome hospital.  A native of Chattooga 
County, Georgia, He was born to the late John Wesley and Sarah Ovelle Barron 
McCollum on September 30, 1925.  Mr. McCollum was a member of the Trion First 
Baptist Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II, and was retired Vice 
President of AmSouth Bank.
Surviving are His wife-Edith Morrow McCollum; daughter & companion, Ann 
McCollum and Terry Hawkins of Trion; son & daughter-in-law, John W. & June 
McCollum of Kennsington, GA; grandchildren, Emily & Travis Poole and Laura & 
Steven Butler; great grandson, Noah Butler; sister, Carolyn Dunwoody of LaFayette; 
special nephew, Greg Morrow; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral services will held Sunday, June 29th, at 4:00 P.M. from the Trion First 
Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Roebuck, Dr. Warren Morehead, and Rev. Mike

MRS. LOUISE TUCKER KELLETT, age 98, of Oak View Nursing Nursing Home, 
Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in a Rome 
hospital.  Born in Cherokee County, Alabama on May 24, 1916, to the late 
Herman L. and Alice Warren Tucker.  She was a member of the West 
Summerville Baptist Church, and was retired from the spinning department 
of Harriett-Henderson Mills.  Mrs. Kellett was preceded in death by her 
husband, the late L. D. Kellett, sisters, Gertrude Kellett, Lois Willingham, 
and Nola Watkins; brothers, Fred Tucker, Gene Tucker, Clyde Tucker.

Surviving are step daughter, Patricia Cooper; sisters-in-law, Jo Peace and
Hughbelle Tucker; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28th, at 3:00 P.M. from the
J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. 
Tommy Seay and Mr. Scott Ward officiating, interment in Greenhills

Mr. Jason Lamar Galloway, age 19, of Trion, GA, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his residence.
 
Mr. Galloway was born October 14, 1994, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, son of Aaron Jennings and Angela Jennings. 
 
Mr. Galloway is survived by his mother, Angela Jennings; father, Aaron Jennings; brothers, Willis Lee Galloway, Vann Alan Jennings, and Chattman Jennings; a sister, Jennifer Hogue; grandparents, Kathrine and Roger Galloway,  Daniel Jennings; nieces and nephews, Katie and Gracie Hogue, Chase Freeman, and Brandon Warren.

Mrs. Ruth Hazel Grimes, Obit. (M)

Mrs. Ruth Hazel Grimes, age 71, of Trion, GA, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Grimes was born May 9, 1943, in Cedartown, GA, daughter of the late Raymond DeForrest and Bonnie Francis Wilbanks White.  She was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bobbie Smith, Opal Cox, and Mary Rose Carter; and a brother, Jack Bowman.

Mrs. Grimes is survived by her husband, John Carl Grimes, Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Carlene Grimes of Trion, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Lucille Bowman of Ozark, AL, Duke and Pauline Williams of Trion, GA, Gary and Lura Young of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Kathy Newsome of Lyerly, GA, Roxie Davis of Manchester, GA; special friends, Carolyn Dodd, Verlon Thompson, Montyne Thompson, and Jody Thompson.

Mr. Ralph Moreland Cain, Obit. (M)

Mr. Ralph Moreland Cain, age 88, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at his residence.

 

Mr. Cain was born April 29, 1926, in Rossville, GA, son of the late John Cravon and Mary Lucille Moreland Cain.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Cain.

 

Mr. Cain is survived by his caregiver, Iris Gail Dotson; very special friend and former case manager, Linda Garrett; and two nieces.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Cain will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Frances Thomas Hardeman, Obit. (ER)

MRS. FRANCES THOMAS HARDEMAN, age 89, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia 
passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, in a Rome health care.  A lifetime resident 
of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born on February 2, 1925, a daughter of 
the late John Newton and Julia Elizabeth Johnson Thomas.  Mrs. Hardeman was a 
member of Summerville First Baptist Church since age 9 years and was retired 
accounts payable clerk for the former Georgia Rug Mill.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband the late R.C. (Rod) Hardeman, Sr., a son the late Rodney C. 
Hardeman, Jr.
Surviving are son and daughters-in-law-Gary R. and Arlene Hardeman and 
Jan Hardeman all of Summerville; three Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren, 
several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral will be held Saturday, June 21st, at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial 
Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Dr. Paul Mason, Rev. Doyle Waters, 
and Dr. David Hunter officiating; Interment in the family plot of Summerville
