Mr. Tiny Wilburn Brown Obit., (M)

Mr. Tiny Wilburn Brown, age 77, of Menlo, GA died Sunday, March 17, 2013

at Floyd Medical Center.

 

Mr. Brown was born June 21, 1935 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Chiles

Fowler Brown and Ludie Mae Bandy Brown.  He had worked at Georgia

Rug Mill, Stansell Appliance and he worked for himself as an appliance repairman.

Mr. Brown was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  He was a founding

Member of the Chattooga County Rescue Squad and he served in the Chattooga

County Civil Defense. He was a member of Cloudland Volunteer Fire

Department, Menlo Volunteer Fire Department, and the Cherokee County Fire

Association.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,

Inez Brown; brothers, D C Brown, Paulie Brown, Jeff Brown, and Frank Brown;

sisters, Mozelle Houston, Alice Brooks, Isadora “Dot” Reynolds, and Mary

Elizabeth Brown; and a step-mother, Gussie Skates Brown.  

 

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Libbie and Perry Carnes, Tammy

and James Johnson, Lisa and Marty Johnson; sister, Jane Adams; grandchildren,

Bobby Fennell, Joseph Fennell, Jennifer Reece, Emily Hampton, Maggie Johnson,

Sam Johnson, Casey Christol, Matthew Christol, and Cody Johnson; and 10

Great Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at

Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Green and Mr. David Luther

officiating.  Burial will follow in Ami Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be

Grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be all Members of Menlo Volunteer

Fire Department.

 

Mr. Brown will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

friends from 5:oo until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials

may be made to the Menlo Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Audrey Faye Christol Obit (M)

Mrs. Audrey  Faye Christol, age 78, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Christol was born in Lafayette, Georgia on July 22, 1934, daughter of the late Vandell Mathis and Ethel Woodall Mathis.  She attended Summerville Schools and was a former employee of the Montgomery Knitting Mill  and was retired from the Creeling Department of the Mohawk, Lyerly Plant.  Mrs. Christol was a member of the Berryton Church of God, and was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Christol; son, Dennis Christol, daughter, Iris Ann Christol, and Brothers, Monroe Mathis and Herbert Mathis.

Mrs. Christol is survived by her daughters, Donna Faye Christol and Lila Frances Payne; a sister, Azilee Edwards; grandchildren, Ashla Christol, Heather and Justin Thompson, Aaron Christol, Casey Christol and Matthew Christol; 3 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Christol will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Chaplain George Nix officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery

Pallbearers will be Jeff White, Ricky Edwards, Steve Edwards, Andrew Edwards, Timothy Edwards, Mike Edwards, James Edwards, and Billy Evett.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the nursing staff of United Hospice.

Mrs. Christol will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.

Mr. Robert C. Nicholson Obit (ER)

MR. ROBERT C. NICHOLSON, age 85, of Shady Lane-Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday morning at his residence. Born in Ducktown, Tennessee on May 7, 1927, a son of the late James Isaac and Bertha Styles Nicholson, Mr. Nicholson was a member of Pennville Church of Christ and was retired from the bleaching department of Riegel Textile Corporation.

Surviving are His wife, Frances Broome Nicholson; daughters-Frances Lenora Pence of Trion, Pat Pierce of Rock Springs, Elaine Clements of Trion, Jean Meadows of Douglasville, and Carol Waters of LaFayette; son-Ron Nicholson of Sarasota, FL.; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16th, at 3:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will David Saylors, Bob Wesson, Josh Pilcher, David Pierce, Nicholas Young, Cody Young, Eddie Britton and Jeff Cooper. Mrs. Nettie Pauline Hixon Obit (M)

Mrs. Nettie Pauline Hixon, age 79, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Hixon was born in Chickamauga, Georgia on June 6, 1933, daughter of the late Thomas Henry Bradley and Luttie Bell Wooten Bradley.  She was a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church and was retired from the Mt. Vernon Mills.  Mrs. Hixon was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edward Hixon, Sr.; a daughter, Sheila Ann Davis; brothers, James Bradley, Edward Bradley, Hugh Bradley and William Bradley; and a sister, Dorothy Durham.

Mrs. Hixon is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph E. Hixon, Jr., and his wife, Jo Anne, and Thomas Randall Hixon and his companion, Connie Campbell; brothers, Lebron Bradley and Leroy Bradley; sisters, Mamie Hartline and Brenda Goff; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hixon will be held Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. John Leatherwood and Rev. Owen “Bud” Davis officiating.  Interment will be Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Tennessee Georgia Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Clarence Osment (OZ) Moody Obit., (M)

Mr. Clarence Osment (OZ) Moody, age 91, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Moody was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Miami, FL, into a pioneer Florida family.  His great-grandparents came to Florida in 1822 just after it ceded to the U.S.A. from Spain. He was the son of the late Clarence and Lily Osment Moody. He was educated in Florida and Cuba while residing in Tavernier, FL.   For over 40 years his principal endeavors were in the fields of engineering, construction and international development, mostly in Latin America.  He was president of Pan American Engineering Co., S.A. for 26 years and President of Pan American Development Corp. for 23 years. At the time of his death he was Chairman of C L O Resources, Inc, an investment company founded in 1949 with his parents and chairman Emeritus of the Florida Council of International Development.  He was decorated by several foreign governments for meritorious service, one of which was the Congress of the Dominican Republic.  He was past president of Society of American Engineers, the upper keys shrine club, past Commodore of Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club, a member of the Masonic lodge & Shrine club for over 60 years, The Elks Club, American Legion and served as a Commissioned Officer in tMhe U.S. Navy during WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Isabelle Bradley Smith Moody, son, Thomas Moody, grandchildren, Christopher Moody, Ashleigh Moody, Lily Moody, Amber Doxey, 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. EST Wednesday March 20, 2013 from St. Joseph on Mountain at Mentone, AL with Rev. John Talberg and Mr. Walter Fowlkes officiating with a Masonic rites to follow with the Alpine Masonic Lodge #211. Active pallbearers will be members of the Alpine Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Moody will be in state at St. Joseph on Mountain from 3:00 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday.

Mrs. Tomiline Pope Obit (EP)

Mrs. Tomiline Pope, age 86 of Elm Street, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the residence of her daughter in Farmington Hills, MI. Tomiline was born May 17, 1926 in Marion County, AL to the late George Thomas Yancey and Josie Pauline Birdyshaw Yancey. She was a member of the Pennville Alliance Church and was retired from the Trion City Schools Cafeteria.

Tomiline is survived by her beloved children, Ida Sue Murphy (the late William), Thomas (Norma) and Ronald (Teresa); her six grandchildren, Rebekah Goemaere, Tim Murphy, Jenny Murphy, Michele Alegria, Crystal Haynes, and Melissa Pope; her two great-grandchildren, Connor Pope and Avery Haynes; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 2007, and four siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 16 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Ron Pope giving the eulogy, Rev. Gene Yee, and Carolos Martines officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Visitation for Mrs. Tomiline Pope will be Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Ronald Eugene Johnson, age 70, of Lyerly, GA died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his residence.

 

Mr. Johnson was born July 17, 1942 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Willie Johnson and Mable Willingham Johnson. He was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Modern Woodmen, Burger King and a retired Pastor. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Johnson, William Arthur; and a sister, Kathryn McWhorter.

 

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Hall Johnson, son, Ricky Johnson, daughter, Rhonda Lively, step-son and his wife, Matthew & Debbie Hall, brothers and sisters-in-law, William Johnson, JR., & Joyce Johnson, Charles & Sue Johnson, grandchildren, Micah Lively, Zach Lively, great-grandchildren, Danalee Lively, Halle Lively, special Nephews, Joe Fay Johnson, Willie Johnson, Tony Jackson.

Mrs. Margaret Ann Wilbanks Elliott Obit (M)

Mrs. Margaret Ann Wilbanks Elliott, age 71, of Trion, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.

Mrs. Elliott was born in Trion, Georgia on August 30, 1941, daughter of the late Charles Herman Wilbanks, Sr. and Lillie Maxwell Wilbanks. She was a member of the Church of Christ and prior to her retirement, was employed with Roper. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “Buck” Elliott, and a sister, Frances Spraggins.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Penny Becker and Keith Miller, and Cheryl and Sonny Durham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Nellie Wilbanks and Herman “Bud” and Margaret Wilbanks; sister, Helen Williamson; grandchildren, Christopher and Stephanie Durham and Sabrina Durham Thompson; great grandchildren, Hailey Durham, Logan Cochran, Brady Thompson, and Jayden Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ralph Preston Boole Obit (ER) revised

MR. RALPH PRESTON BOOLE, age 81, of Ft. Payne, Alabama, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013. A native of Exmore, Virginia, He was born to the late Norman and Annie Chandler Boole on February 21, 1932. Mr. Boole was a Veteran of Korea, serving in the U. S. Coast Guard, was retired from Pan Am Airlines, and later was corrections officer Sargent, retiring from Hayes State Prison. He attended the Ruhama Baptist Church in Ft. Payne, Ala. and was preceded in death by his wife the late Virginia Keller Boole.

Surviving are children-Jeffery Boole of Exmore, VA, Richard Boole of Boise, Idaho, Kerrie & Mike Bowie of Maryville, TN., Frank Parks, Jr.,  and Connie Aldridge ,Stephanie Dennis & Earl Bramlett all of Summerville; ; grandchildren-Amy & Paul Priest, Allison & Brad McConnell, Brandon Bowie, Jessica & Josh Green, Zack Dennis, and Alleigha Dennis; great grandchildren-Madeline, Sarah, Bethany, & Lainey Priest, Alex & Andrew Rainwater, Gracie & Michael Bowie, Shelby & Jaxan Green; cousin-Gloria & Thomas Hudson of Exmore, VA; 2 nieces and Nephew.

Mr James “Mutt” Hunter (M)

Mr. James “Mutt” Hunter, age 77, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday March 10, 2013, at his residence.   Mr. Hunter was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Charlie and Bertha Hunter.  He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills having worked in the Weave department, was a member of the Safety Committee, where he received the R.B. Pamplin Safety Award, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hawkins Hunter.
Survivors include Son and Daughter-in-law, James Wesley and Tracy Hunter, Daughters and Sons-in-law, Beverly and Joel Johnson, Tammie and Curtis Haddock, Brother, Billy Hunter, 14 Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren also survive Mr. James “Mutt” Hunter.
