Miss Geraldine Chambers, age 97 of Milton Circle, Summerville, GA passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Miss Chambers was born May 18, 1915 in Holland, GA.  She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. 

Miss Chambers was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Clayton Chambers and Della White Chambers; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Miss Chambers is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Howell Cemetery.

Visitation for Miss Geraldine Chambers will be Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be members of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

Mr. John Hoyt Farmer, age 100 of Melbourne, Fla. , formerly of Summerville passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born May 7, 1912 in Toccoa, Ga. son of the late James & Eunice Farmer.

He was Owner/Operator of a Commercial Laundry in Summerville for many years, received a Masters Degree from Oglethorpe University, was a member of the Hall of Fame at Oglethorpe University. Mr. Farmer was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a veteran of the US Navy . He was preceded in death by 5 brothers & sisters and his wife Bolling Brown Farmer in 2005.

Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Bolling Farmer of Ashburn, VA and a sister Barbara Kinchiloe of Richmond, VA.

Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until the service hour at Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Summerville  First Baptist Church and are requested to meet at the Church on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.

In-lieu of flowers the family ask that  contributions be made to the Summerville First Baptist Curch.

Ga., formerly of Summerville passed away Friday,

March 22, 2013. She was born November 7, 1918

in Dekalb Co., AL daughter of the late Noah

Griffin& Mary Elizabeth Craze Freeman. She was

a Housewife and a member of Silver Hill Baptist

Church.She was preceded in death by 5 siblings

 and her husband,William Howard Finster.

Mr. Jesse James Hathorn, age 32, of LaFayette, GA, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Hutcheson Medical Center.

Mr. Hathorn was born July 2, 1980 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, the son of Judy Trammell Hathorn and the late Bill Hathorn. He was formerly employed with the Roper corporation an Shaw Ind. Other than his father he was preceded in death by grandparents, Jesse & Myrtle Hathorn, Hobert(Red) Howell, half-brother, William Billy (Goat) Hathorn.

Survivors include son, Tristen Hathorn, mother, Judy Hathorn, brother, Billy Hathorn, half-brothers, Michael Hathorn, Dennis Hathorn, half-sisters, Martha Foster, Gail, and Marie, grandmother, Julia Howell, aunt, Joyce Goodson, nieces, nephews, great nephew and cousins .

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the LaFayette Memory Gardens with Rev. Gary Howell officiating. Active pallbearers will be Cody Hall, D.J. Frye, Elijah Southern, Jacob Moore, Dewey Moore, Michael Vance, Chris Southern and Ronnie Hopkins.

Mr. Paul Vernon Rosser, age 85, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the home of his daughter.

Mr. Rosser was born June 3, 1927 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late George Lee Rosser and Bessie White Rosser. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills.  He was a member of Trion First Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church.  Mr. Rosser was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII on the USS Interpid.  Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Mae Bryan Rosser; and a grandchild, Jeremy Rosser.

Survivors include daughters and husbands, Annette and Mike Salmon, Paulette and Jerry Chitwood; son and wife, Dale and Deborah Rosser; sisters, Josephine Baggett and Hilda Reynolds; 11 Grandchildren; 27 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great Great Grandchildren; and special friend, Nola Floyd.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Warren Moorhead and Rev. Jerry Chitwood officiating.  Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by Shanklin-

Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion.  Committal will be conducted by Dr. Floyd Roebuck.  Active pallbearers will be Grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be his Grandchildren.

 Mr. Rosser will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Friday, March 22, 2013.

Mrs. Freda Buckner Stephens, age 85, of Lyerly, GA died Wednesday, March

20, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Stephens was born August 13, 1927 in Lower Laurel, NC, the daughter of the

late Tommie Leroy Buckner and Thelma Hamlin Buckner.  She was retired from

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, and she had worked at the VA Hospital

in Richmond, VA.  Mrs. Stephens is a member of the Trion Presbyterian Church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Orval

Buckner; and a sister, Mary Buckner.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Stephens; daughter, Susan Stephens;

son and wife, James Thomas and Kathryn Stephens; sister, Erma Laws;

brothers, Kenneth Buckner, Franklin Delano Buckner; and Leroy Buckner;

grandchildren, Marie Stephens, James Francis Stephens, and Jacob Andrew

Stephens; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at

Trion Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Flannagan officiating.  Visitation

will be from 4:00 p. m. until the service hour at the church on Thursday.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at

Buckner Cemetery in Mars Hill, NC.

Mr. David Lamar Bowman, age 66, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Bowman was born December 30, 1946 in Chattooga County, GA, the son of the late H. D. Bowman and Christine Aaron Bowman. He was retired from Mohawk Industries. Mr. Bowman was a member of Masonic Lodge #338. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Bowman.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Bowman; daughters and husbands, Darla and Chuck Petitt, Lori and Lance Johnson, and Carin Bowman; son and wife, Daniel Alan and Tabitha Brown; sister, Sue Black; grandchildren, Cass Petitt and Anna Renslow; and a special dog, Chico.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sanford Deberry officiating.
