Mr. Thomas Junior “T.J.” Luther, age 77, of Menlo, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Luther was born in Etowah County, Alabama on September 18, 1934, son of the late William T. Luther and Eula Claborn Luther. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Jamestown, Alabama, was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and prior to retirement was employed with the Southern Railway Co. as a Depot Agent. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman Luther, and sister, Eularene Dodd. Mr. Luther is survived by his wife, Peggy Killian Luther; sons & daughters-in-law, Tommy & Patsy Luther and David & Pattie Luther; daughters & sons-in-law, Penny & Mike Holder and Debbie & Matthew Hall; 4 Grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral Services for Mr. Luther will be held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Casey Luther, Rev. Ronald Berry, Rev. Chris Hearn officiating. Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery. Mrs. Thelma Olivia Allgood, age 90, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Allgood was born August 21, 1921 in Holland, GA, the daughter of the late John and Viola Myles Adams. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Allgood’s love was gardening and raising flowers. She proudly cared for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was an inspiration to others in guidance of life lessons. Mrs. Doris Crowe Hughes, 83, of Mahan Rd., Summerville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29 at her residence.
Mrs. Hughes was born May 5, 1928 in Mentone, Ala. to the late Finn M. and Belle Keith Crowe. She was retired from Best Mfg. in Menlo, Ga. Mrs. Hughes was a faithful member of New Antioch Baptist Church in Summerville and currently still served as the church organist.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest G. Hughes, five brothers – Rev. Finn Crowe, Rev. Floyd Crowe, Rev. Charles Crowe, Rev. Edmond Crowe, and Edward Crowe, two sisters – Lorena Crowe Simmons and Marie Crowe Pope, and an infant great-grandson – Jonathan Nathaniel Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by one daughter and son-in-law – Shirley and Will Marks of Summerville, four sons and daughters-in-law – Everett and Nancy Hughes, Fayetteville, Alton and Nancy Hughes – Milledgeville, and Mike and Martha Hughes and Robert and Cindy Hughes, all of Summerville, seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grand children. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Hughes will lie in state in the Chapel of Erwin Petitt Funeral Home Monday Oct. 31 from 6pm until 9 pm. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of Robert and Cindy Hughes at 1150 Mahan Rd., Summerville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Nov. 1 at 12:00 pm at New Antioch Baptist Church in Summerville with the Rev. Harold Helton, Rev. Waydell Howell and Rev. Wayne Pace officiating. There will be an open viewing at the church from 11:00am until 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Greenhill Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers are Jonathan Hughes, Kyle Boston, Jim Crowe, Donald Blackwell, James Hughes, Freddie Hughes, Larry Wells and Doug Shireman. Honorary pallbearers are all of the other men of New Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. J D Dillard, age 82, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Dillard was born October 4, 1929 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late William Lee and Bessie Galloway Dillard. Mr. Dillard was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a past treasurer. He was a former Junior Boys Sunday School Teacher, a former Little League Coach, and was formerly active in Boy Scouts. He was retired from Mohawk Industries and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 Brothers and 4 Sisters.
Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife, Geneva Scoggins Dillard; sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Deborah Dillard, and Rodney Lee Dillard; sister, Betty Fortner, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Emma Dillard and Ethan Nixon; brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Billy & Tennie Scoggins; sisters-in-law, Paula Brown,Louise Dillard, and Rachel Dillard; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Four Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Doyle Kelly, Rev. Sanford Deberry, and Rev. Joel Smith, and Daniel Smith officiating. MR. OTIS SHIVER, age 87, of Ridgewood Circle-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, October 24, 2011, in the local nursing home. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 7, 1924, a son of the late Jesse C. and Allie Mae- Williams Shiver. Mr. Shiver was a WW II Veteran serving in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers in the Philippians and New Guinea; also was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #129 and V.F.W. Post #6688. He was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and retired from retail sales. Surviving are wife-Marion Nelson Shiver; sons and daughter-in-law-Nelson Shiver of Atlanta and Farrell & Kay Willingham Shiver of Woodstock; granddaughter-Sarah Shiver; sisters-Edna Helton of Summerville and Linda Green of Lyerly; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26th,at 2PM from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Summey and Dr. Paul Mason officiating, interment in the family lot of Summerville Cemetery, with Military Honors by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5. Mrs. Floye Louise Campbell, age 92, of Trion, GA passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab. Mrs. Campbell was born September 17, 1919 in LaFayette, GA , the daughter of the late Barney Hampton and Lula Mitchell Hampton. She was a member of Trion First Baptist Church. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by a son, Les Tripp, a step-son, Gary Campbell, sisters, Esther Locklear, Ruth Landers, brother, B.L. Hampton. Mrs. Pearl Syble Wesson, age 92 of Harrisburg Road, Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Wesson was born October 3, 1919 in Chattooga County, GA. She was retired from Best Manufacturing and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church
Mrs. Wesson was preceded in death by husband, Robert Wesson; father and mother, William "Bill" and Rosa Crump Durham; brother, Mark Durham; and sisters, Lucy Brown, Thelma Chastain, Daisy Ramey, Edna Hogue, and Lillian Burke.
Survivors include daughter, Sue Edwards of Summerville, GA; son and daughters-in-law, Gene and Brenda Wesson, James and Sue Wesson, and Larry and Brenda Wesson all of Summerville, GA. 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev.Terry Shores, Rev. Jason Cowart, and Rev. Tom Rogers officiating. Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery.

Preacher Jim Cordell 69 of LaFayette passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday October 17th…He was a faithful servant of the Lord for 40 years …He pastored at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Trion First Baptist, Ruhama Baptist and Walnut Grove Baptist, he was an Alumni of Shorter College, on the board of trustees for the Baptist Village and the Georgia Baptist Children Homes…Jim loved being with his family and grandchildren, dealing with antiques and working with For Evergreen Landscaping in Rome…He was preceded in death by his parents Shamblin Franklin, and Lecile Mae Williams Cordell and brother Leonard Cordell….He is survived by his wife of 50 years , Wanda Dycus Cordell, Daughters and son in laws Pam and Barry Bridges of Summerville, Beth and Chip Hood of Rome, a son and daughter in law Chris and Amber Cordell of Cramerton, NC, sister and brother in law Shirley and Dan Deakins of Whitwell, TN.
