Mrs. Christeen Parrish Powell Obit

Mrs. Christeen Parrish Powell, age 83, of Menlo, GA died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Powell was born August 7, 1927 in Red Bay, AL, the daughter of the late R. D. Parrish and Willie Thorn Parrish. She was retired from Best Manufacturing, where she is a member of the Best Silver Club. Mrs. Powell was an active member of the Menlo First Baptist Church and the Chelsea Circle of Friends. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dwight "Dee Dee" Powell; brother, J. W. Parrish; and sister, Virginia Icy Cooper.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James R. "Rod" and Kim Powell, Menlo, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra A. and Eric Stephenson, Calhoun, GA; sister, Bobbie Parsons, Ooltewah, TN; grandchildren, Ross Stephenson, Wade Stephenson, Erik Powell, Whitney Powell, and Heather Trimby; great grandchildren, Drake Dodd, Maverik Powell, and Kaylor Cumbee.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Ross Stephenson, Wade Stephenson, Erik Powell, Maverik Powell, Drake Dodd, and Mark Goodson. Honorary pallbearers will be all Women of Menlo First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Powell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 p. m. until the service hour on Tuesday.

Mr. Billy Hoyt Trammell Obit

Mr. Billy Hoyt Trammell, age 76, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Trammell was born November 28, 1934 in Cedar Bluff, AL, the son of the late Choice Cecil and Lois Beatrice Carroll Trammell. He was retired from West Point Stevens where he had worked as a truck driver. Mr. Trammell was preceded in death by a grandson, Jaxson McCutchins; brother, Lloyd Trammell; sister Alice Sexton.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Nell McGraw Trammell; daughters and sons-in-law, Lanell and Robert Ponder, Karen & Corey Bridges, Pam McGraw; sons and daughters-in-law, Don Trammell, Allen & Diane Trammell, Greg & Angela Trammell, Nicholas & Kandy Trammell, Tony Saylor, all of Summerville, GA; sister, Evelyn Lay, Rome, GA; 33 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. J. McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Mr. Anthony Ray “Tony” Evans Obit

Mr. Anthony Ray "Tony" Evans, age 42, of Calhoun, GA died Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Evans was born September 18, 1968 in Rome, GA, the son of Carol Elaine Evans and the late Doyal Ray Evans. Mr. Evans was employed with Mohawk. He was a member of Silver Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Evans enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing football, and shooting in archery tournaments.

Survivors include his mother, Carol Elaine Evans, sisters, Michelle Lynn Evans, Kristy Danielle (Jamie) Scott; and brother, Timothy Lee (Brandi) Evans; and several Nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Silver Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Brown and Rev. Ralph Sumner officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Scott Culberson, Gerald Culberson, Glenn Ellis, David Ward, Shane Bandy, Shane Causby, Matt Battle, Claude Stanley, JR, Chad Mathis, and Michael Ratliff, JR. MRS. RUBY LUCILLE REED, age 84, of West Spring Creek Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Monday, December 27, 2010, at her residence. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late James Harper Blackmon, Sr. & Lillie Ingram Blackmon on October 16, 1926. Mrs. Reed was retired from Riegel Textile’s spinning department after 38 years of service. Preceding Her in death are 4 brothers-J.R. Blackmon, Thomas Blackmon, Alvin Blackmon, and Elgin Blackmon.

Surviving are Her husband of 64 years-Frank G. Reed; daughter-Mildred Lively Wilson of Rome; son-Max Reed of Trion; sisters-Jeanette Peppers and Bonnie Blackmon both of Trion and Shirley Kiser of Summerville; brothers-James Blackmon of Trion, Johnny Blackmon of Summerville, and Ricky Blackmon of Cartersville; 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Granddaughters, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alice Murphy Obit

Mrs. Alice Wigley Murphy, age 73 of Tucker Hollow Road, Calhoun, died Friday evening, December 24, 2010 at her residence following three weeks of declining health.
She was born on February 3, 1937, daughter of the late Walter Lee and Lou Daisy Tigue Wigley. She was retired from Mohawk Industries, and attended the Calhoun Full Gospel Fellowship in Calhoun. In addition to her parents, was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Murphy in 2004.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by two sons, Charles Akery of Trion, GA and Roy Akrey of Menlo, GA; two sisters, Daisy Wilbanks of Calhoun, GA and Blondell Williamson of Ider, Alabama; two brothers, Londell Wigley of Calhoun, GA and Cecil Wigley of Lyerly, GA; and a half-brother, Floyd Smith of Trenton, GA. Five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Florene Murphy will be held at the graveside at Fain Cemetery on Tuesday, December 28th at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Hershel Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday after 10:00 AM.

Mrs. Barbara Frances Sharp, age 76, of Summerville, GA died Friday, December 24, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Sharp was born April 11, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of the late Walter N. and Anna Brown Farmer . She was a retired bookkeeper and member of Pennville Baptist Church. Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by her husband, Orville E. Sharp, brother, Douglas Farmer, sister, Vida Black. Survivors include her children, Carl E. Sharp and Laura Wells; sister, Betty Jo Meek; brother, John Farmer; grandchildren, Dalton Wells and Triston Madsen. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Mrs. Kelli Suzanne Martin, age 33, of Williamston, SC, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Martin was born in Rome, Georgia on March 17, 1977, daughter of Jimmy Ray Hughes and Teresa Ann Tucker Hix. She was a member of the New Spring Church in Anderson, SC and was an environmentally conscious, animal friendly, community minded person. Mrs. Martin was employed as a dispatcher with Utiliquest, and was preceded was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Jesse O. Tucker and Jimmy Paul Hughes.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her children, Hannah Martin, age 9 and Jacob Martin, age 4, Williamston, SC; Father, Jimmy Ray Hughes; Mother and Step-father, Teresa and Phil Hix, Williamston, SC; Brother, Terry Hughes, Charleston, SC; Sister, Heather Robinson, Athens, GA; grandmother, Mary Lawson, Summerville; Fiance, Nathan Johnson, Williamston, SC; Father of her children, Eric Martin, Huntsville, AL; and a number of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Nieces.

Mr. Robert Eugene Eaton Obit

Mr. Robert Eugene Eaton, age 76, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Eaton was born in Walker County, Georgia on February 21, 1934, son of the late William Armstrong Eaton and Janie Kathrine Gentry Eaton. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the New Visions Praise and Worship, was a successful and dedicated member of the AA program. Prior to retirement, Mr. Eaton was employed as a Security Officer at Mt. Vernon Mills, and was preceded in death by his wife, Delcy Eveline Caldwell; sister, Millie Louvina Hyde; brothers, Troy Armstrong Eaton and James Herbert Eaton.

Mr. Eaton is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Brown, Luke and Shirley Brown, and Curtis and JoAnn Brown all of Summerville; daughters and Son-in-law, Debbie and Stanley Grey of Trion and Sherry Glass of Ames, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at the New Visions Praise and Worship with Rev. Jackie Jones and Rev. Barry Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Trion Cemetery.

MRS. WILLA MAE HAYES, age 93, of Hall’s Valley Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, December 24, 2010, in the local nursing home. A native of Blue Ridge, Georgia She was born to the late Huland Burg and Lula Conley Davenport on February 2, 1917. Mrs. Hayes was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, retired from the Spinning Department of Riegel Textile Corporation, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Ernest "Bud" Eugene Hayes, a sister Ruth Cochran, and brothers-Wayne Davenport, J.B. Davenport, and Ernest Davenport.

Surviving are son & daughter-in-law-Bobby & Sandra Hayes of Trion; grandson & spouse-Bradley & Judy Hayes of Trion; great grandsons-Luke Hayes and Jake Hayes; sisters-Lola Bailey of Acworth, Betty Aaron of Covington, Berta Lee Shields of Blue Ridge; brothers-Vester "Veck" Davenport, William "Joe" Davenport, & Floyd Davenport all of Trion and Charles Davenport of Chattanooga; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
