Lena Smith Lea, 80, of Venedy, IL; born April 4, 1931 in Gaylesville, AL; passed away on Friday April 15, 2011 at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.
Mrs. Lea was a factory worker at Bussmann Fuse as well as a Certified Nurses Assistant.
She is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Annie Smith, 2 brothers, and 1 grandson.
She is survived by 4 sons, Benny Lea, Venedy, IL, Harlon and Mary Jane Lea, Tilden, IL, Terry Wayne Lea, Marissa, IL, David and Linda Lea, Marissa, IL, a daughter, Kay Lubiewski, O’Fallon, MO, 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, Several nieces and nephews from the Menlo and Lyerly area.
Visitation will be held at the Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Tuesday April 19, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m and on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m with Pastor Wilbur Franklin officiating.
Interment will be held at the Tilden Cemetery, Tilden IL.

Mr. Charles Lewis Jewell, Jr., age 57 of Trion, Georgia formerly of Fort Pierce, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Jewell was born in Alma, Georgia on January 1, 1954, son of the late Charles Lewis Jewell, Sr. and the former Jacqulin Pervis.  He was a member of the Palm Vista Church of God in Fort Pierce, Florida and prior to retirement, was self employed in the flooring industry.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Jewell was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Carver Jewell; granddaughter, Tabatha Shaffer; grandson, Julian Howell, and a close friend, Brother Spooner.
Mr. Jewell is survived by his children, Angel and Scott Roberts, Deanna Abney(Jim Price), and Holly Clark (Wesley Bryant); brothers, Larry Green; Mike Green (Linda Gail); sisters, Sarah Mae Beckham (Paul); grandchildren, Charles Jewell, Thomas Roberts, Lance Roberts, Brooke Roberts, Chelsea Roberts, Walter Roberts, Justin Raider and many others; great grandchildren, C.J. Jewell, Bradley Howell, Jr., Cameron Howell, Kaydence Raider, Kimberly Raider and many others; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside and Interment services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in Chapel Hill Cemetery with Rev. John McGraw officiating.
Mr. Jewell will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 2:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M.
Pallbearers will be Charles Jewell, Thomas Roberts, Justin Raider, Lance Roberts, Steven Tidmore, and Dakota Crump.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Walter Clark and Scott Roberts.

Mrs. Margaret Estelle Moorhead, age 85 of LaFayette, Georgia formerly of Athens, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Moorhead was born in Oconee County, Georgia on April 3, 1926, daughter of the late Doctor Grady Thomas and Pallie Estelle Doster Thomas. She was a member of the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, Georgia where she was active in many activities during her working years and in the years following her retirement as a Dietician at the Atlanta Metro Hospital. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moorhead was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren Moorhead on November 4, 1996; and her brothers, Lanoise Thomas, LaGrant Thomas, Perry Thomas and Lamar Thomas.
Mrs. Moorhead is survived by a son, Dr. Warren Moorhead, LaFayette; daughters, Carole Walker, Martinsburg, WV, and Mary Ellen Collins, LaFayette; brothers, Gene Thomas, Bogart, Jack Thomas, Statham, GA, and Bill Thomas, Athens, GA; grandchildren, Tim Moorhead, Knoxville, TN and Erin Marie Collins, Boston; great grandchildren, Georgia Anne Moorhead, Claire Roselle Moorhead, and Noelle Alexandra Moorhead; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Moorhead will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, Georgia with Rev. Rob Bray and Rev. Frank Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethabara Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roddy Thomas, Donnie Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Colin Wood, Ricky Thomas, David Thomas, Randy Brock, Barry Mobley and Jerry Wood.
Mrs. Moorhead will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M. On Sunday, Mrs. Moorhead will be carried to the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, GA to lie in state from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Sue Hayes, age 74, of Calhoun. Died Tuesday morning April 12th in Gordon Hospital, following several weeks of declining health.

Sue was born March 22, 1937 in Mt. Aire, Georgia. Daughter of the late Ralph C. and Agnes Cone Scott. She was a teacher with the Trion City School System for 42 years retiring as the systems Curriculum Director. Her love of education led her to Shorter College and Georgia Northwestern where she was a instructor after her retirement. Sue was a member of the Calhoun Church of Christ, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and P.A.G.E. of Georgia.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Carter and Hugh Scott. Two sisters; Ester Meadows and Theo Phillips.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Don Hayes. One daughter, Suzanne Smith and her husband Nathan all of Calhoun. One brother, John Scott and his wife Jo of Griffin. Two sisters; Olive Voltair and her husband George of Clearwater, Fl., and Ann Budd and her husband Dan of Rock Springs, Wo.. One granddaughter, Kate Hutchinson of Calhoun.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday April 15th at 2pm from the Calhoun Church of Christ. With Pastor Barry Gilreath and Dr. Richard Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Nathan Smith and Maresha Bagwell.

Pallbearer serving include her nephews; John Meadows, Mike Meadows, Scott Meadows, Jeff Bennett, Kevin Hayes, Steve Hayes, Chris Hayes, Robert Hayes, and Neil Hayes.

The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10am until 12:30 at which time Mrs. Hayes will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1pm until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Artichia Warren Kellett, age 92 of Kellett Street in Summerville passed away Friday April, 18 2011, evening in a Rome hospital.  A native of Chattooga County she was born in Berryton, Georgia on May 26, 1918.  She was the daughter of the late Hines and Lizzie Kinsey Warren.  Mrs. Kellett attended Horizon Baptist Fellowship and was retired from Harriett-Henderson Mills and a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Kellett, Sr., daughter Susan Marie Kellett, a son, Ralph Kellett, Jr., and brothers Jack and Archie Warren.

Surviving are daughter, Jody Kellett (Will) Maples, daughter-in-law Aleta Kellett; grandchildren Kyle Kellett, Blake Weaver, Heather Spann, and Erin and Will Maples III.  Great-grandhchildren, Hayden and Taylor Eagle, Gracie Farmer, Jack and Payton Weaver, Kylor Kellett, Kayla and Kelsi Spann.; brother- Brimp Warren; sisters – Ruth Treadaway and Elizabeth Powell – several neices and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 10th at 2 PM from Horizon Baptist Fellowship with Rev. Jerry Mann, Rev. Greg King and Rev. Jack Gillespie officiating interment in Greenhills Memory Garden.  Active pallbearers will be Blake Weaver, Kyle Kellett, Will Maples, Archie Warren, Doug Stephens and Hayden Eagle.

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

as a tool & die maker.

Mrs. Betty Jean Dean Norton, age 78 of Thomas Road, Trion, GA passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Norton was born June 10, 1932 in Adairsville, GA.  She was retired from Bigelow Sanford-Lyerly Plant, was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church, and the 25 Elite of Mohawk Industries.
     Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her first husband, Elgin Lee Norton; father, Rev. W. H. Dean; mother, Laura Thomas Dean; brothers, Jerry Dean and Thomas "Sonny"  Dean; and second husband, Wayne Bradley.
     Mrs. Norton is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Stephens of Summerville, GA, son and fiance, Gary Norton and Dianne Jolly of Rome, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Rod Powell of Menlo, GA; sisters, Cecelia "Ce-Ce" Laney of Trion, GA and Debbie Weaver of Summerville, GA; sister-in-law, Laura Dean of Summerville, GA; step-mother, Helen Dean of Summerville, GA; sister-in-law, Eloise Norton of Summerville, GA; brother-in-law, A. Mr Shelton Dubose "Chief" Whittle, died Monday April 4, 2011, at Floyd Medical Center at the age of 89 years old. He was born in Columbia, S.C. and grew up in Columbia and Florence, S.C. He attended Newberry College in South Carolina, the University of Miami in Miami, FL, and the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served in the Mediteranean during WWII, and was part of the raid on Normandy Beach. After the war he and his wife returned to Fort Pierce, FL, and then to Miami, FL. After
graduating from the University of Miami, he had a teaching and coaching career. He continued in the Naval Reserves for 40 years, and spent 30 summers on Lookout Mountain at Camp Cloudmont for boys and Valley View Ranch for girls as their chief cook. He retired in 1982 and moved to Cloudlalnd, GA, where he was a substitute teacher in
Chattooga County School System, a member of the Chattooga County FFA, Young Farmers, Rome Coin Club and the Gadsden Coin Club.
Shelton was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Picou Whittle, sister, Joyce Barrow and brothers, Prevost Whittle, Jr, Charles Whittle,
Donald Whittle, Landon Whittle, Thomas Whittle and Herbert Whittle.
Surviving are son & daughter-in-law, Charles & Charlotte Whittle, daughters & son-in-law, Susan Wilcox, Patricia & Johnny Compton, 5 grandchildren, Kelly Thomas, Justin Rose, Kristi Wilcox, Sarah Millican, Paul Whittle, 3 great-grandchildren, Shania Thomas, Logan Millican, Nathaniel Millican, sister, Mildred Martin, brothers, Paul Whittle, Carroll Whittle.
