Eva Norton Woods obit

Mrs. Eva Neil Norton Woods, age 65 of Harrisburg Rd, Summerville, GA. passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Woods was born March 21, 1945 in Summerville, GA.  She was a Home maker and a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church where she taught the Grace Sunday School Class.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dewey Norton.

Mrs. Woods is survived by her husband of 49 years, Roy Woods, her children and their spouses, Michael and Penny Woods of Summerville, GA, Cindy and Bobby Turpin of Menlo, GA, Gary and Kellie Woods, Katie and Beth Anne Turpin, Aaron and Carlie Woods, and Emma and Baylee Blair; her mother Grace Norton of Summerville, GA; her brothers, Lamar Norton of Atlanta, GA and Joe Norton of Geraldine, AL; sister, Nancy Ingle of Jamestown, AL and Deneta Stallings of Armuchee, GA; several nieces and nephews also survived.

Funeral services will be conducted sunday, July 4, 2010 at 3:00 pm from the Dry Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Weaver and Rev. Jim Blair officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetary.

Mrs. Woods will lie-in-state, Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm.  Pallbearers will be Stephen Norton, Stacy Norton, Randall Stallings, Chris Norton, Sammy Tapp, Bill Price, and Barry Practor.  Honorary ballbearers wil be the Grace Sunday School of Dry Valley Baptist Church, Bruce Cordell, Betty Ellenburg, and Vernon Cordell.

David Shaw obit

Mr. David Crockett Shaw, age 56, of Lyerly, GA died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Shaw was born January 12, 1954 in California. He was a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple Holiness Church.

Mr. Shaw is survived by his caregivers, Jeff and Laura Dotson, Sean Dotson, and Zachary Dotson; and special friends, Troy Dunn, Tony Crawford, and Kevin Crutchfield.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Sean Dotson, Zachary Dotson, Mack Burke, Jimmy Kidd, Lamar Chatman, and Andrew Barnes. Doris Grant obit

Ms. Doris Venable Grant, age 75, of Kennasaw, GA died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at her residence.

Ms. Grant was born July 6, 1934 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Dewitt and Lessie Brown Venable. She was a homemaker. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Venable; and sisters, Jean Wooten, Edna Venable, and Joyce Venable.

Survivors include her children, Darlene N. Mallonee, Billy Norton, Jr, and Joel D. Norton; sisters,Shirley Benedict, Elaine Pledger, Glenda Hardin, and Diane Croy; grandchildren, William Mallonee, April Tyree, and Cole Norton; and 4 Great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Don Knowles and Rev. Larry Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Tuesday.

MRS. EFFIE MAE PHILPOT FINLEY – AGE 80, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 at Heritage Health Care at Shepherd Hills in Lafayette, Georgia. She was born in Lyerly, Georgia to the late Mr. Emory and Mrs. Lizzie Philpot and was a member of Pond Spring A.M.E. Church. She was retired from Mount Vernon Riegel Textile Mills. One son, Mr. William Black, preceded her in death.

Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Dallas of Summerville, Georgia; son, Mr. Charles (Tonya) Beamon of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. from Pond Spring A.M.E. Church in Lyerly, Georgia with Pastor D. Louis Patterson officiating. Flower Girls will be Annie Maritn, Glenda Hall, Myrtle Price, Corine Nichols, Celestine Jones,Janice Foster, Sara Hudgins.  Pallbearers will be Mose Adams, John Anthony, William walker, Otis Martin, Fred Martin, and John Nichols.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Friday. Mrs. Nelda Sue "Suzie" Westbrooks, age 64, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, June 27, 2010.

Suzie Hankins Westbrooks, beloved mother of Rick DeBerry and Leslie Bice, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday with her family at her side after a short battle with an aggressive form of liver cancer. She’s the daughter of the late Billy and Frances Williams Hankins of Trion, GA. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert DeBerry and her daughter, Suzanne Steele.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Hannah Barton of Hall’s Valley; son, Rick DeBerry; and daughter and son-in-law, Lesli and Michael Bice of Summerville, GA; son-in-law, Babe Steele, LaFayette, GA; granddaughter and husband, Carrie & Adam Lathem, Summerville, GA, grandson, Billy Adam Trammell, Trion, GA, granddaughters, Savannah DeBerry, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Maria Steele; great-grandchildren, Chandler and Madison Lathem, Summerville, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. David Autry, Rev. Art Graves, and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating. Campbell Obit

MR. GERALD CAMPBELL, age 73, of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away Friday, June 24, 2010) at his residence. A native of Trion, Georgia, Mr. Campbell was born to the late Andrew and Etta Mae Westbrook Campbell on January 8, 1937. He attended the Kennesaw United Methodist Church, was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was retired from General Motors Corporation.

Surviving are His wife-Peggy Colbert Campbell; sons-Phil Campbell and Todd Campbell both of Kennesaw and Torry Campbell of Acworth; sister-Edna Swanson of Summerville; Nine Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 27th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. G. J. Chandler officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers-Phil Campbell, Todd Campbell, Torry Campbell, Derek Colbert, and Matthew Owens. Robert Ward obit

Mr. Robert Nathan Ward, age 69, of Lyerly, GA died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Ward was born July 21, 1940 in Summerville, GA the son of the late Lonnie Deed and Lillie Mae Davis Ward. He was retired from the City of Summerville. Mr. Ward was member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Vaughn; brothers, Tony Ward and Edward Ward.

Survivors include his wife Betty Ward; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Darrel Huskey, Summerville, GA and Robbie and Phil Scarfo, Lyerly, GA; brother, Frank Ward, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Emily and Shane Ratliff, and Bubba Huskey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mickey Skates officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gene Ward, Lee Veatch, Heath Hammonds, Kevin Henderson, Bradley Ward, and Phillip Williams. Young Obit

MRS. MATTIE LOU YOUNG, age 90, of Perry Road-Armuchee, Georgia passed away Monday (June 21, 2010) evening in a Rome hospital. Mrs. Young was born in Centre, Al. on October 3, 1919.

Surviving are sons, Dale Young and Steve Young, both of Armuchee. Four Grandsons: Michael Young, Mark Young, Jason Young and Adam Young, all of Armuchee. Five Great Grand Children: Skyler Young, Dylan Young, Destiny Young, Aaliyah Young and Clay Young, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. from the Silver Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John Hayes officiating, interment in Bethel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jason Ware, Timothy Cook, Sam Brown, Mark Brown, Jimmy Riley and Johnny Riley. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Young will also lie in state at the Church Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Barbara Jean Driver, age 72, of Summerville, GA died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Driver was born June 13, 1938 in Summerville, GA the daughter of the late Rannel and Myrtle Marie McGuire Carr. She was a homemaker and a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Driver; brothers, Forrest Carr and Glenn White.

Mrs. Driver is survived by her husband, John Edward Driver, sons and daughters-in-law, David Edward and Amanda Driver, Daniel Alan and Danita Driver; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne Marie and Ed Flener; sister, Evon Woods, grandchildren, David "DJ" Driver, Mark JonJock, Whitney Driver, Megan Driver, Sara Driver, Nicholas Driver, Ryan Driver, Ashley Smith, Holly Thomas, John Driver and Micah Ware; 8 Great-grandchildren; special friends Raybern and Alice Ashworth.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Ford, Bro. Raybern Ashworth, and Rev. J. C. Grogan officiating. Mr. Ronald Brock Obit – Updated

Mr. Ronald Brock, age 66 of First Street in Trion, GA passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 at  the Summit Health Care and Rehab Center.  Mr. Brock was born in Trion, Georgia and was retired from the Denim Lab of Mt. Vernon Mills.  He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War and was also in the National Guard.  He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Mr. Brock was preceded in death by his father and mother, George Leonard and Effie Wilson Brock and a brother, Norman Lamar Brock.

Mr. Brock is survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Jim and Elaine Brock of Trion, GA. and Larry and Linda Brock of Cloudland, GA.  Also by one niece, two nephews, one grand niece, three grand nephews and one step nephew and step niece.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12:30 PM from the Old Trion Cemetery with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 of the American Legion.  Interment will follow at the Old Trion Cemetery.

Mr. Brock will lie in state Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10 AM to 12 Noon.  Pallbearers will be Eric Brock, Michael Dempsey, Lynn Brock, Billy Brock, Barry Hunter and Larry Brock.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
