Mrs. Esther Pitts Obit

Mrs. Esther Grace Pitts, age 81, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Pitts was born March 18, 1929 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Lonnie Thomason and Nancy Allen Thomason. She was a homemaker. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Henry Pitts; and a brother, L. J. Thomason.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Gary Pitts, Lanier and Elaine Pitts; daughters-and sons-in-law, Pam and Kenny Bailey, all of Summerville, GA, Lisa and Bill Trott, Marietta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jackie Thomason, Oconee, GA; 6 Grandchildren; and 7 Great- Grandchildren.

Mrs. Pitts will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010. She will then be cremated according to her wishes.

 

Ms. Debra Shirey Obit

Mrs. Debra K. Shirey, age 55, of Cloudland, GA died Friday, July 16, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Shirey was born April 12, 1955 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of the late Thomas Davis and Willa Mae Spriggs. She was formerly employed with Blue Bird. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Shirey.

Survivors include her children, Joseph and Kerry Horner, Fort Hood, TX; Angela Goss, Ashville, AL; sister, Sherry Losinski, Coldwater, MI; brother, Danny Davis, Bronson, MI; grandchildren, Kara Goss, Triston Goss, Joseph Jaxson Horner; fiance, George Battles; extended family, Kim & Jack Wilson and Emily Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Murfin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Mrs. Shirey will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m.Wednesday, July 21, 2010.

Thomas Franklin Brown Obit

Thomas Franklin Brown, age 74 of Trion died Saturday, July 17, 2010.  He is survived by his wife Bobbie Ballenger Hadorn Brown, Trion, brother Cecil Eugene Brown, LaFayette.

Funeral from Wallis Memorial Chapel Monday at 2 PM with Service conducted by Brother David Thompson.  Pallbearers are Randy, Joe, Eric and Daniel Ballenger, Randy Weaver and Jimmy Cole.  Interment in LaFayette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 8 pm.  Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of La Fayette.

 

Jackson obit

Mr. Franklin Oscar Jackson, age 66, of Bowden Junction, GA died Friday, July 16, 2010 at Tanner Medical Center.

Mr. Jackson was born July 25, 1943 in Menlo, GA, the son of the late George Alvin Jackson and Jannie Ruth Waltz Yarbrough. He was retired from Red Food as a Produce Manager and was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sisters, Linda Craig and Jeanette Pickle, both of Summerville, GA; special friend, Newman Denney, Several Nieces and Nephews, Several Great Nieces and Nephews, and one Great- Great nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Sumner officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Pickle Sr., Jeremy Pickle, William Pickle Jr., Damon Smith, Michael Pickle, Kevin Brown, Doug Turner, and Jeff Jones.

Mr. Jackson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

 

Settoon obit

Mr. Richard Cantey Settoon, SR, age 90, of Menlo, GA (formerly of Islamorda, FL Keys) died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Settoon was born January 23, 1920 in Gadsden, AL, the son of the late Nelvil and Carolynne Chitwood Settoon. He was retired from Universal Pictures. He was a member of the Memphis Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, where he had served as Deputy Grand Knight. Mr. Settoon co-founded the Variety Club of Georgia benefiting St. Judes. He was also the co-founder of St. Judes in Memphis, TN. He was a member of the Krewe of Pontchartrain, New Orleans, LA. He had a lofelong career in the motion picture industry with Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, United Artist Distribution. He was also a past member of the Menlo Lions Club.

Mr. Settoon is sirvived by his wife, Patricia Powell Settoon; children, Carolyn Settoon Hughes, Laconia NH, Linda Settoon Wingo and husband, Ivey Wingo, Blairsville, GA, Natalie Settoon, Rome, GA, Richard Cantey Settoon, JR and wife, Jennifer Banks Settoon, Tavernier, FL; grandchildren, Kimberly Lemire, Bennett Chinn, Michael Parsons, Rick Parsons, Jade Settoon, Ava Lee, and Lauren Settoon; 9 Great-grandchildren; sister, Edwidge Knott and husband, Don Knott, Hattiesburg, MS; and several Nieces and Nephews.

At Mr. Settoon’s request he will be cremated with a private service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

 

Mr. David Espy, Jr. Obit

Mr. David Thomas Espy, Jr. age 66, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Espy was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on July 8, 1944, son of the late David Thomas Espy, Sr. and Katherine Lucille Gamble Espy. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp # 599 and was retired from the Summerville News. In addition to his parents, Mr. Espy was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Espy; brothers, Donnie Espy and Bill Espy; and sister Helen Clark.

Mr. Espy is survived by his wife, Janice Espy; 3sons, Tracy Espy, Travis Young and Keith Young; daughters, Karen Shepard and Aimee Espy; brother, Gene Espy; sisters, Carole Salmon, Mary McCollum and Lorraine Eubanks; 10 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Espy will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Sailors, Mr. Mike Jones and Mr. Mike Ragland officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gary Brooks, Jerry Turman, John Culpepper, Raymond Peters, Dale Mitchell and Jimmy Espy. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp # 599.

Mrs. Dorothy Syble Crow, age 83, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at
Floyd Medical Center.
Mrs. Crow was born May 8, 1927 in Walker County, GA, the daughter of the late Bert and
Mae Helton Harris. She was retired from Barwick and Mt. Vernon Mills. She loved to sew,
bake, and read. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn
Evans and Idell Ray; brothers, Jess Harris, Buford Harris, Houston Harris, and J W Harris;
and a grandson, Cody Kirk.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Randy Kirk, Summerville, GA;
granddaughter and husband, Carmen and Shannon Sipsy; great grandchildren, Autumn,
Coy, and Dex. Several nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Crow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home
with Rev. Tony and Edith Samples and Mr. Bade Eller officiating. Burial will follow in Kirk Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Donald Harris, Edward Harris, Robert Harris, Joe Harris, Billy Stewart,
and David Sipsy. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy and Doris Hall, Patricia Freeman, Inez Harris,
and Jesse Harris.

Mr. Reuben O. Littlejohn Obituary

Mr. Reuben O. Littlejohn, age 87, of Lafayette, GA, passed away Tuesday Morning at his residence. Mr. Littlejohn was born June 29, 1923, in Walker County Georgia, the son of the late Charlie R. and Emma Gladys Brown Littlejohn. He was retired from G.E. of Rome, GA, a member of the Waterville Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII.

Survivors include his wife to whom he was married for 68 years, Clarice Witt Littlejohn, daughter Brenda L. Sprayberry, sisters, Norma Jean Payton, Teresa Thompson, brothers, Charles Littlejohn, Marlon Littlejohn, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday July 8, 2010 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Patterson officiating with interment in the West Hill Cemetery.

Charles Sloan obit

SPC E4 Charles Caleb Sloan, age 23, of Ludowici, GA died Friday, July 2, 2010 at Herndon, Virginia.

SPC Sloan was born June 2, 1987 in Calhoun, GA the son of Charles Sloan, II and Angie Robinson Evans. He was serving in the United States Army where he was a Signal Support System Specialist. He was being deployed to Iraq at the time of his death.

SPC Sloan is survived by his wife, Megan Sloan and a son, Charles Caden Sloan, of Ludowici, GA; mother, Angie Evans, Canton, GA; father, Charles Sloan, Rome, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Jonathan Bean, Trion, GA; brother, Jeremy Sloan, Calhoun, GA.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel.

Tucker Obit

Miss Patricia Gail Tucker, age 63, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Miss Tucker was born May 10, 1947 in Summerville, GA the daughter of the late John Andrew and Gertrude Agnes Thomas Tucker. Miss Tucker was retired from the Family Dollar Store in 2009, with 17 years of employment. She was a member of the Pennville Allicance Church. Other than her parents, Miss Tucker was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Tucker Brown and Bonnie Ruth Tucker Smith; and a brother, Robert Lewis Tucker.

Survivors include a sister, Delaine "Dee" Tucker Shaver, Summerville, GA; brothers, John Thomas Tucker, Ooltewah, TN and Hugh Goodwin Tucker, Summerville, GA; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Pennville Alliance Church with Rev. Carlos Martines officiating. Burial will follow in the Pennville Alliance Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Black, Gary Abernathy, Bill Moore, Roger Owens, David Owens, and Mike Mills. Honorary pallbearers are all members of the Bill Moore Sunday School Class.
