Mr. Robert Hammond Obit

Mr. Robert Harrison Hammond, Jr., age 74 of Mentone, Alabama passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Hammond was born in the Chelsea Community on August 12, 1935, son of the late Robert Harrison Hammond, Sr. and Maudie Lee Purcell Hammond. He was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed spending his time during hunting season deer hunting. Prior to retirement, Mr. Hammond was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills as a vehicle maintenance manager.

Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Hattie Tomlin Hammond, sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Meagan Hammond, and Marc and Teresa Hammond; step-children, Ralph Tomlin, Jeffrey Tomlin, Johnny Tomlin, Dave Tomlin, and Sherry Adcock; sister, Dorothy Heath; grandchildren, Tiffany Westbrooks, Jason Hammond, Heath Hammond and Holly Bryant; and a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hammond will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Johnson, Larry Maddux, Alan Butler, Jason Hammond, Heath Hammond and Ralph Tomlin.

Mr. Hammond will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

Johnson obit

Mr. Jerry Edward Johnson, age 68 of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Johnson was born in Menlo, Georgia on September 11, 1941, son of the late William Clay Johnson and Mary Lou Pike Johnson. He was veteran of the United States Army and was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his brothers, Billy Johnson and Stephen Johnson; sisters, Barbara Johnson Ware, Margaret J. Johnson, Paulette Lamb; and a number of nieces and nephews.

According to Mr. Johnson’s wishes, he has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the residence of his brother, Billy Johnson, 217 Orchard Hill Road, Summerville.

Leroy Thompson obit

Mr. Leroy Thompson, age 74 of Summerville, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Thompson was born in Menlo, Georgia on January 12, 1936, son of the late Bud Carl Thompson and Lillie Stallings Thompson. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Subligna, and prior to retirement, was employed with Wheeling Steel and was a farmer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by brothers, Willie Carl Thompson, Carl Budd Thompson, J.W. Thompson, Bobby Thompson; sisters, Maggie Knox, Annie Allgood, his wife, Alberta Thompson and a child.

Mr. Thompson is survived by sisters, Yvonne (Bill) Etchison, Irene (Jimmy) Dozier, Otha (Greg) Ludy, Ruby (Andrew) Wedgeworth and Louise (L.C.) Wedgeworth, all of Summerville; Special Stepdaughters, Sandra Kirk, Brenda Hudgins; 4 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, very special cousin, Sara Ruth Thompson; Stepson, Labron Kirk; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thompson will be held Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Subligna with Rev. James Loveless officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Silmon, Carl Wedgeworth, Lorenzo Knox, Robert Walker, Bill Etchison, and Jerome Dozier.

Flower Bearers will be Peggy Perry, Cynthia Smith, Sara Ruth Thompson, April Kinney, Lisa Wedgeworth and Gail Wedgeworth.

Mr. Thompson will lie in state at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Sunday from 1 until the funeral hour.

 

Ms. Addie Littlejohn Boatman Obit

Aunt Addie Littlejohn Boatman, age 93 of Trion, went home to be with her Lord Sunday August 1, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Boatman, son in laws Melvin Tudor and Jearl Burrell.

She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 60 years. 

Survived by daughters Alice D. Tudor, Trion; Barbara A. Burrell, LaFaytte; sister Eveyln Harris, Chatsworth; grandson Brent Burrell, great-grandaughter Breanna Berell, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral from the Ridgeway Baptist Church Tuesday at 3 PM.  Service conducted by Mr. Alford Mann, Dr. Robert Patterson, Rev. Chuck Romain, Rev. Clay Powell and Rev. Todd Smith.

Pallbearers are Bud Womack, Guss Womack, Leon Calhoun, Tracy Brown, Brad Brown and Charles Littlejohn.

Honorary pallbearers – Richard and Edith Peace, Horace and Norma Payton, Randell Littlejohn, Roy T. Brown, Robert Waters, Brent Burrell, Clyde and Glenda Lee, Wayne Mann and all of Mrs. Boatman’s Sunday School Class.

Interment in Old Trion Cemetery.

Mr. Hugh Pless – Incomplete Obit

MR. HUGH LEE PLESS, Sr. age 79, of Cloudland, Georgia passed away Monday (August 2, 2010). A native of Chattooga County, Mr. Pless was born to the late Earnest Lee and Katie Lee Alexander Pless on November 28, 1930. He was a member of the Menlo First Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of Korea, and a retired building contractor. Mr. Pless was preceded in death by his wife the late Ruth (Sissie) Kiser Pless and a son the late Hugh Lee Pless, Jr.

Surviving are son-Barry Pless of Cloudland; brother-Joe Pless of Menlo; grandchildren-Justyn Pless, Cheyenne Pless, and Jeff Pless; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 3rd, from 6 until 8 P.M. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.  A service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Franklin Rogers Obit – Complete

Mr. Franklin D. Rogers, age 70, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Saturday July 31, 2010, in Ft Payne, AL. Mr. Rogers was born March 30, 1940, in Jackson County Alabama, the son of the late John Emory and Gertrude Hemphill Rogers. He was retired from Mohawk, and a member of the Cove Road Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Huskey Rogers, children, Charles Rogers, Darryl Rogers, Eric Rogers, Diane Rogers Cox, brother, Landon Rogers, grandchildren, Casin Rogers, Joshua Rogers, Desirae Rogers, Olivia Rogers,  Chelsea Stoker, Jessie Stoker, Landon Hill, Leigha Rogers, Hailey Rogers, Drae Dozier, Cody Smith, Alece and Derrek Reynolds.

 Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m.Tuesday August 3, 2010 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marlin Starnes officiating with interment in the Mt Olive Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Casin Rogers, Chuck Caheeley, Joshua Rogers, Dale Cox, Tyler Huskey, Allen Huskey.

Mr. Frank Alan Turner, Sr. Obit

Mr. Frank Alan Turner, Sr., age 86, of Summerville, GA. passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Cherokee Medical Center. Mr. Turner was born in Grady County, OK. on June 15, 1924, son of the late John Turner and Vinnie Pickle Turner. Prior to retirement Mr. Turner was employed as a supervisor with Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill, he was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Morris Turner. Mr. Turner is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Alan Turner, Jr. and his wife Caron, Jackson, Miss., Ernest Richard and Sherry Turner, Cedar Bluff, Al. 3 granddaughters, Marianne Turner, Sara Turner and Stephanie Turner, 3 great-grandchildren, Blaine Peace, Isabelle Peace, Blake Peace. Funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m. Monday August 2, 2010 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Doyle Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memory Gardens. Mr. K. D. "Dale," Rash, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Rash was born August 25, 1934 in Rash, AL, the son of the late Charlie Lee and Lula Rogers Rash. He was retired from Southern Railway and was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church. He was former owner operator of Dale’s Country Store.

Mr. Rash is survived by his wife, Patsy Rash; son, Dennis Rash, Norris, TN; brother, William Rash, Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Amy Rash, Knoxville, TN and Dennis Rash, JR, Jacksonville, AL, and several Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Wayne Gardner officiating. Active pallbearers will be C. L. Kilgore, Floyd Ward, Herbert Hughes, Ben Young, R. E. Houston, and Chris Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Gardner, Tommy Gardner, Butch Camp, John Fackler, Jerry Timmons, Mike Long, and Jimmy Schram.

Mrs. Betty Doris Stiles, age 71, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Stiles was born November 2, 1938 in Stephenson, AL, the daughter of the late Walter and Nell Goff Adams. She was a wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Stiles.

Mrs. Stiles is survived by her children, Darryl and Penni Stiles, Brenda and Edward Ingram, Kathy and Tommy Stinson, Regina and Doug Holt, and Melinda and Rickey Tucker; sister, Patty Shaw; 10 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 with Rev. David Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Tucker, Kyle Stinson, Tyler Stinson, Cassy Crider, Blake Stiles, Tommy Stinson, Doug Holt, and Rickey Tucker.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
