Hines Obit

Mr. James W. "Buddy" Hines, age 63, of LaFayette, GA died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Hutcheson Medical Center.

Mr. Hines was born May 25, 1946 in Trion, GA the son of the late James Milton and Lillie Mae Davis Hines. He was retired from the City of LaFayette Water Department. He was an avid race fan and he loved to fish and do woodworking. Other than his parents, Mr. Hines was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Hines.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Cliff Cordle, Trion, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Leroy Hall, Trion, GA, Patricia and Lamar Rich, Trion, GA; brother, Michael Hines, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Daniel Cordle and Tyler Cordle; great grand child, Cannon Cordle; special friends, Vernon Hatcher, Michelle Osborn, and Ray Pettyjohn.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Vernon Hatcher, Maxey Colbert, Stan Nix, Daniel Cordle, Tyler Cordle, and Glenn Mann. Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of the City of LaFayette Water Department, Ray Pettyjohn, Ron Marshall, and Bucky Weaver.

Mr. Hines will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p. m. Thursday, April 1, 2010.

 

Smith Obit

Mrs. Mary Beth Thomas Smith, age 32. of Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born July 21, 1977 in Anniston, AL, the daughter of Mary Mize Crider and the late Harry Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and friend.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony E. "Tony" Smith; daughter, Adrianne Michelle " Annie" Smith; mother and step-father, Mary and William Crider; goddaughter, Katie Mae Hankins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Belmont Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Craig and Bro. Junior Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jesse Jennings, Brandon Crider, Mike Ringer, John Scruggs, Jamie Ponder, and Tina Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staffs of United Hospice, Pharma Trend, and Dr. George Golden’s office.

Mrs. Sue Youngblood

MRS. SUE YOUNGBLOOD, age 64, of Mahan Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (March 25, 2010) evening at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia she was born to the late Herman and JoAnn Ledford Hunter on June 6, 1945. Mrs. Youngblood was preceded in death by her husband the late Tommy Youngblood and daughter the late Susan Reena Owens.

Surviving are daughters-Jane Sims and Tammy Grogan both of Summerville and Stephanie Owens of Menlo; son-Johnny Padgett; sister-Syble Miller of Summerville; brothers-Lee Fountain and Junior Hunter both of Summerville; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Memorial service will be held Sunday 2:00 P.M.(March 28th) from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Evans officiating, inurnment in Summerville Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be the nurses of Heyman Hospice.

Mr. Lawrence D. Powell

MR. LAWRENCE D. POWELL, age 82, of Mentone, Alabama passed away Saturday (March 27, 2010) at his residence following an illness. A native of Cherokee County, Alabama He was born to the late Albert Hinton and Mary Jones Powell on July 18, 1927. Mr. Powell was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from the card room of Mt. Vernon/Riegel Mills. He was preceded in death by six siblings-the late Katherine Cavin, Mary Nell Langston, Lois Boydston, Francis Cavin, Madelyn Downer, and Houston Powell.

Surviving are daughters-Kay Sentell and Margie Saine; son-Dwight Powell all of Mentone; brother-in-law-Owen Langston of Chattanooga; seven Grandchildren, twelve Great Grandchildren, two Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

 

L.D. Powell Obit

Shirley Marie Abernathy Obit

Mrs. Shirley Marie Abernathy, age 67, of Summerville, GA died Monday, March 22, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Abernathy was born July 9, 1942 in Centre, AL, the daughter of the late Leno and Sue Sandford Crane.  She had worked at Century Glove Mill and Montgomery Knitting Mill.  Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the Berryton Bible Mission.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy David Abernathy; grandson, David Wesley Dawson; Brother, Lester Crane; and sister, Mildred Bright.

Survivors include her children, Judy and Jimbo Slaughter, Kathy Terry and Ray Bridges, Melinda Clark, all of Summerville, GA, Tonya and Wesley Dawson, Trion, GA, Timothy Randall, SR and Tina Abernathy, Summerville, GA; and a chosen child, Tony and Carolyn Prater, Summerville, GA; sister, Kat Black, Centre, AL.; brothers, Roger Crane, Gaylesville, AL, Donald Crane, Cedar Bluff, AL, and Ronald Crane, Centre, AL; 14 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge and Rev. Mickey Skates officiating.  Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Barry Williams, Ronny Abernathy, Terry Green, Brian Black, Tony Prater, and Michael Dawson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Burrage, Chris Burrage, Jason Burrage, Joseph Burrage, and Chris Williams.

Jimmie Ray Williams Obit

Mr. Jimmie Ray Williams, age 74, a longtime resident of Summerville and member of South Summerville Baptist Church passed away Saturday, March 20th at his home.  He was born December 22, 1935 in Chattooga County, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Pearl Williams and brother, Johnnie Fay.

Jimmie was full of life and anyone that knew him can testify to his sense of humor and mischievous nature. He faithfully served in the U.S. Air Force, serving with the 48th air transport squadron as a loadmaster.  He retired as an aircraft engine machanic at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, VA.  He was also the retired owner of Williams Lawnmower Repair of Summerville, GA.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Keith) Williams of Summerville, GA; daughter, Sherri Hume Simon and husband Dave Simon of Louisville, KY; daughter, Angie Wrenn and husband Ron Wrenn of Kennesaw, GA; grandchildren, Patrick Hume of Louisville, KY, Laura Hume of Tallahassee, FL, and Katy Hume of Murray, KY; step-grandchildren, Mathew Simon and wife Krysi simon and Whitney (Simon) Stotts and husband Bobby Stotts and their children, Beckett and Ainsley Simon and Taylor and Bailey Stotts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from the Chapel of Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyle Waters officicating.  Visitation will be Monday, March 22, 2010 from 6pm to 9pm.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetary.

Vertie Lee Wilbanks obit

Mrs. Vertie Lee Wilbanks, age 78, of Trion, GA died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Wilbanks was born March 25, 1931 in Dekalb County, AL, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Alma Parker Schrader. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God Northside. Mrs. Wilbanks was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hall Wilbanks; daughter, Nancy Carol Wilbanks; sisters, Mildred Ferguson, Doris Mitchell, and Naomi Schrader; brothers, Melvin Schrader and Philip Schrader.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Faulkner, Trion, GA and Marie and David Mitchell, Armuchee, GA; sisters, Lorene Wilson, LaFayette, GA and Louise Bowers, Kensington, GA; brothers, Frank Schrader, LaFayette, GA and Leroy Schrader, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Aaron Mitchell, Michael Faulkner, Allison Mitchell, Jane Marie Faulkner, Ben Faulkner; great-grandchildren; Alora Faulkner, Noah Faulkner, Ansley Mitchell, and Hall Mitchell; and several special Nieces and Nephews.

Mrs. Mary Sue Newsome

Mrs. Mary Sue Newsome, age 79 of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Newsome was born in Rome, Georgia on August 17, 1930, daughter of the late Raymond Jackson Hix and Velma Holland Hix. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was preceded in death by a son, David Allen Newsome and a daughter, Celeste Maddux.

Mrs. Newsome is survived by a son, Michael Newsome of Cumming, GA; two daughters, Rita Tanner of Rockmart and Jackie Newsome of Summerville; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Newsome will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the residents of Riverwood Retirement Center in Rome.

Mrs. Newsome will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

Mr. J.T. Copeland

Mr. J T Copeland, age 92, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, March 18, 2010 in Health Care of Lake City, Lake City, FL. Mr. Copeland was born November 28, 1917 in Lyerly, GA, the son of the late Harvey and Alma Reynolds Copeland. Mr. Copeland was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation, He was a member of the Menlo Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII. He was also a member of the VFW post 6688. Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his wife, Mittie Bell Hardwick Copeland June 15, 2001, a son Alvin Copeland and a daughter-in-law, Sue Fuller.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Richard Romine, Lake City, FL, son, Jimmy Copeland, Hanover, AL; sister, Mildred Pledger, Summerville, GA; 3 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Monday March 22, 2010 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. B. McNeil and Rev. Jody Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Moseley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Kinzy, William Thomas, Pete Vaughn, Lamar Canada, Larry Canada, and Tom Stewart. Mr. Copeland will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday March 22, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
