Clara Mae Waldrop Parris

 Mrs. Clara Mae Waldrop Parris, age 82, 369 Collier Road, Rome, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Parris was born in Randolph County, AL on November 9, 1927, daughter of the late Riley and Liza Biddie Overton Waldrop. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph R. Parris on June 26, 1989, by a grandson, Robbie Brown, by 2 sisters, Beulah Hardeman and Mae Berry, and by 6 brothers, Hubert, Hoyt, Norman, Dan, James, and Riley Waldrop, Jr.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Trend Mills here in Rome for over 7 years. Mrs. Parris was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Janice Brown, and her husband, David, Summerville, Mrs. Betty Harris, and her husband, Rickey, Rome, and Mrs. Judy Cowart, and her husband, Bobby, Rome; 1 sister, Mrs. Thelma Swords, Albertville, AL; 9 grandchildren, Brad Harris and his wife, Kristin, Rome, Eric Harris, and his wife, Jamie, Rome, Joey Harris, and his wife, Erin, Rome, Mrs. Jennifer Middleton, and her husband, Tommy, Summerville, Mrs. Meagan Hughes, and her husband, Justin, Trion, Brandon Brown, Summerville, Mrs. Lorrie Espy, and her husband, Kevin, Subligna, Jason Costlow, and his wife, Stephanie, Aragon, and Joseph Costlow, and his wife, Starr, Rockmart; 20 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Waldrop, Rev. Bill Dowdy, Rev. Donald Lindsey, and Rev. Rob Miller officiating. Interment will follow in New Armuchee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Betty Harris, 369 Collier Road, Rome.

Active and honorary pallbearersare requested to assemble at the Gethsemane Baptist Church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and are as follows: Active: Grandsons. Honorary: Anthony Segars, Randy Cromer, Eric Barnett, and Dewayne Swords.

Pledger Obit

On March 18, 2010, Louise Sprayberry Thomas Pledger passed away from her pain into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on May 8, 1926 to Martha Jane Sprayberry and Hubert F. Sprayberry in Trion, GA. She had one sister, Marie, who died before Louise was born. She lived in Trion and Summerville, GA her entire life and was retired from Bigelow-Sanford where she was an accounting secretary for many years. She was a lifelong Baptist and was very faithful to attend service and lend her strong alto voice to the hymns she loved.

She was the widow of John D. "J D" Pledger, Jr. who passed away in February 2000. They were married for more than 50 years and she will be interred beside him in West Hills Cemetery in Trion. Her first husband was William Max Thomas who was killed in combat in WWII in Belgium.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Pledger Turner of Tunnel Hill, GA and Jenith Thomas Strickland of Chattanooga, TN, where she lived for several months prior to her death. She is also survived by two sons-in-law, Leon D. Arnold and Kenneth Strickland who were very dear to her. Her grandchildren are Beth Arnold Bean (Tony), of Trion, GA, Amy Arnold Miller (Scott) of Alpheretta, GA, Ashley Arnold Epperson, of Tunnel Hill, GA, and Matt Strickland of Chattanooga, TN. She is also survived by several Great-grandchildren that she took special delight in. They are Laura Bean, Matthew Strickland, Kaylee Strickland, Chelsey Arnold, Bryce Epperson, Grace Miller, and Megan Miller. They brought her great joy and she shared many special occassions with each one. They were always glad to see their Granny come in.

Mrs. Pledger was at the NHC of Chattanooga at the time of her death. We are especially grateful for the staff and nurses at NHC and the care of Hospice of Chattanooga. We would also like to acknowledge the staff at Suites at Oak View for the seven very happy years she spent in their frinedship and care.

Funeral servcies will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 20, 2010 in the chapel at Mason Funeral Home of Summerville, GA with Rev. Jimmy Weaver of Dry Valley Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be at the Mason Funeral Home Saturday March 20, 2010 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

 

Clara Elizabeth Steele obit

Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Steele, age 80, of Mentone, AL died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Steele was born March 25, 1929 in Menlo, GA, the daughter of the late Walt and Mary Langston. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. "Bob" Steele.

Mrs. Steele is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Bud Crowe, Cloudland, GA, sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Doris Deering and Artie and Mary Steele, all of Cloudland, GA; stepson and wife, Milton and Melody Steele, TN; brothers, Owens Langston, Chattanooga, TN and Monroe Langston, Sanford, FL; 9 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Mt. Union Cemetery with Rev. Milton Steele officiating. Pallbearers will be Mus Johnson, Lee Pullen, Matt Noles, Donnie Bullard, Jeff Blalock, and Gwen Brown.

Mrs. Steele will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p. m on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

 

Ernest Erwin “Ernie” Tucker obit

Mr. Ernest Erwin "Ernie" Tucker, age 80 of Summerville, GA died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Tucker was born April 28, 1929 in Jamestown, AL, the son of the late Jesse Hinton and Cora Frances Deering Tucker.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea.  Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by 3 Sisters and 5 Brothers.

Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife to whom he was married for 63 Years, Kathy Tucker; son, Ron Tucker; grandson, Michael Henderson; granddaughter, Amber Tucker Wells, great grandson, Brayden Wells; sister Jane Tucker; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Mason Funeral Home.

Ernest Dean Tapp

Mr. Ernest Dean Tapp, age 58 of Dalton, passed away at Erlanger Medical Center on March 13, 2010.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Tapp, mother and father Leroy and Effie Tapp, brother Johnny Tapp, and son-in-law Johnny Rangel.

Survivors include his wife Linda Tapp of the residence; daughter and son-in-law Sebrina and John McCrickard of Summerville, Sheila and Bobby Williams of Dalton, Missy Rangel of Dalton.  Son and daughter-in-law Chris and Jennifer Tapp of Trion, Charles and VickieChampion of Ohio and Dewayne Langley of Dalton. Sisters and brother-in-law Judy and Johnny Wooten, Rhonda and Bobby Smith all of Summerville.  Seventeen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Also survived by all of his co-workers at Lyles Industry in Dalton.

 Funeral service will be Monday, March 15, 2010, at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Center Valley Cemetery in Chatsworth, GA.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 5-9 P.M.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Nelson, age 63, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday March 13, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Nelson was born September 28, 1946, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Albert "Tub" and Vinnie Lucille Green Dover. She was a member of the Trion Church of God of Prophecy, a selfless and loving mother and wife, raising two wonderful children and a grandbaby. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Dover. Survivors include her husband, Robert Larry Nelson, son & daughter-in-law, Adam Carl and Angela Nelson, Lafayette, GA, daughter, Candace Gail Nelson, Summerville, GA, adopted son, David Schmitt. brothers & sister-in-law, Marvin Dover, Thomas & Nell Dover, Roy Dover, all of Summerville, GA, sisters & brother-in-law, Brenda Gail Wilson, Summerville, GA, Peggy Janice & Clint Boss, Swainsboro, GA, grandson, Avery Adam Nelson, several neices and nephews also survive Mrs. Shirley Jean Nelson. Mrs. Lois Gwendolyn “Gwen” Cash age 74 of Centre, AL passed away Thursday March 11th in Snellville, GA

Funeral services for Mrs. Cash will be 1: P.M. Sunday at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alton Stamey and Rev. Joel Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Memory Garden. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8: P.M. Saturday.

Mrs. Cash was preceded in death by her husband: Herman L. Cash, sisters: Ethelene Blair & Dorothy Flaherty, brothers: Clarence Russell, Charles Russell and Norman Russell.

Mrs. Cash was a native of Cherokee County AL, the daughter of the late Chancellor and Annie Lou Russell. She was a resident of Summerville, GA for forty seven years before moving to Centre, AL. Gwen graduated from Georgia Tech and retired from SI Corporation in Chickamauga, GA, where she served in management. She was a member of Perrenial Springs Baptist Church in Summerville, GA.

Grady Douglas Bryant

U.S. Veteran Mr. Grady Douglas Bryant, age 79, of Summerville, GA, passed Thursday March 11, 2010 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Bryant was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Lyerly, GA, the son of the late Alfred Monroe and Marian Gardner Bryant. He graduated from Lyerly High School in 1948 after which he served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, in Greece & Texas. After returning to Summerville in 1956 he became a contractor building houses and painting. Grady was know as being one of the best painters around. In 1983 he went to Atlanta to work for Partitions, Inc., and worked there until his blindness caused him to retire in 1999. Mr. Bryant was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church and preceded in death by a son, Douglas Bryant,3 sisters, Virginia Alexander, Dorothy Hanle, Ruth Carpenter, and 5 brothers, Jack Bryant, William Bryant, Johnny Bryant, Edward Bryant, Gardner Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lou Bryant, two daughters, Regina Bryant, Summerville, GA, Myra Dickerson, Cumming, GA, a son, Clifford Bryant, Summerville, GA, 4 Grandchildren, 1 Great-grandchild, a brother, Norman Bryant, and many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday March 13, 2010 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kenneth Summey and Rev. Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Woodall was born September 8, 1918, in Chattooga County Georgia, the daughter of
the late Bence and Harriett Payton Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of the
Trion Church of God of Prophecy. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence
W. Woodall.
Survivors include her children, Larmar & Rose Ann Woodall, Cumming, GA, Benny Woodall,
Ringgold, GA, Nola & Ben Benson, Cookville, TN, brothers, Bence (JR) & Louise Anderson,

William “Buddy” Hartline obit

Mr. William Henry “Buddy” Hartline, Jr., age 65 of Ringgold, GA., passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga.
Mr. Hartline was born in Summerville, Georgia on November 6, 1944, son of the late William Henry Hartline and Edith Hartline. He was retired from the Norfolk Southern Railway as a Brakeman.
