Mrs. Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Daniel, age 49, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Daniel was born January 1, 1961 in Rome, GA, the daughter of Amy Barnett Rogers and the late J D Meeres. She was employed with Wal-Mart. She was a member of the World Church of Living God.

Mrs. Daniel is survived by her husband, Luther Daniel, III; children, Cherina Dillard, Thomas Michael Dillard, and James Dillard; mother, Amy Rogers, brothers, James Meeres and Michael Meeres; and grandchild, Arieanna Dillard.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Summerville Cemetery with Min. Greg Ludy officiating.

Mrs. Daniel will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Friday, April 16, 2010.

 

Joan Carpenter Blackmon obit

Mrs. Joan Carpenter Blackmon, age 62, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Blackmon was born July 20, 1947, in Trion, GA, the daughter of Martha Bell Wilson Carpenter and the late William Carpenter. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Greg and Rodney Carpenter. She was a member of the East Trion Church of God. Mrs. Blackmon had worked at the Summerville Montesori School.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Blackmon, mother, Martha Carpenter, sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Lisa Blackmon, Trion, GA, Jason and Misty Blackmon, Calhoun, GA, daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Stephen Sprayberry, Amber and Olin Woody, Summerville, GA, Mandie Dooley of Summerville, GA, and 12 Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Chasteen and Rev. Douglas Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Yarbrough, Dexter Blackmon, Britt Carpenter, Zack Carpenter, Olin Woody, and Stephen Sprayberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Dawson Yarbrough, Tufton Blanks, and all Members of the East Trion Church of God.

Mrs. Blackmon will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p. m. Saturday.

 

Mrs. Glenna Jo Koonce Obit – Incomplete

MRS. GLENNA JO KOONCE, age 72, of Back Berryton Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (April 8, 2010) evening in a Rome hospital. She was born on May 30, 1937. Preceded in death by Her husband the late G. W. Koonce on July 7, 2007.

Surviving are daughters-Sandra Grady of Cumming, Donna Bishop of Calhoun, Kathy Morrell of Merritt Island, FL., and Arliss Scruggs of Summerville; a son Michael Chandler of Trion , Step sons-Kenny Koonce and Greg Koonce.

Mr. Max Cooper Obit

MR. MAX ROBERT COOPER, age 78, of College Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (April 8, 2010) at His residence. A native Chattoogaian He was born to the late Zera M. and Martha Evelyn Bohannon Cooper on August 30, 1931. Mr. Cooper was a member, Elder , and Adult Sunday School Teacher of Trion Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Was retired papermaker from Inland Container-Rome after 31 years of service and a member of Floyd Springs Lodge F & AM, Rome Shrine Club, Yaarab Shrine Temple, and Rome Commandery #8. He was preceded in death by siblings-Vernon Cooper, Willie Cooper, Louise Copeland, and Sidney Cooper.

Surviving are wife-Irene Cooper; daughters-Debbie Cooper of Eagle River, Alaska, Sharon Cooper of Rome, Patti Smith of Summerville; grandchildren-Eric Thomas of Alaska, Jason Thomas of New Mexico, Shannon Cooper of Rome, Blake Thomas of Alaska, Matthew Smith of Atlanta; six Great Grandchildren; sister-Rachel Dillard of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews.

Rachel Laney Obit

MRS. RACHEL PAULINE LANEY, age 84, went to be with the Lord Thursday (April 8, 2010). She resided at #31 Curran Street, Summerville, Georgia. Mrs. Laney was born to the late Walter and Ruby Abercrombie Collum in Cherokee County, Georgia on November 11, 1925. She was a wonderful, loving mother and homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Thomas Charlie Laney, daughter-Verdice Laney, sisters-Ethel Collum, Inez Peacock, and Nellie McGuire. She was a Christian in the body of Christ at South Commerce Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family who loved her very much.

Surviving are five children-Linda Wooten of Summerville, Delvia & Bill Streets of Augusta, Darlene Hughes of Summerville, Rex Laney and Walley Laney both of Summerville; 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (April 10th) at 12:00 noon from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Tommy Broome officiating interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Master Matthew “Braden” Martin obit

Master Matthew "Braden" Martin, age 2, of Trion, GA died Monday, April 5, 2010 in Andrews, NC from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Master Martin was born October 4, 2007 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, the son of Gene and Rebecca Martin. He was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church where he was a member of the infant Sunday School Class and the Pre-Awana Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brad Martin, who also died in the automobile accident and a grandfather, Gene Martin, SR.

Survivors include his parents, Gene B. Martin, Jr and Rebecca "Becky" Martin; a brother, Brannon Martin; grandparents, Charles and Lois Edwards, all of Trion, GA and Carol Martin, Summerville, GA; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Dry Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Martin, Doug Alexander, Austin Martin, Barry Proctor, Mike Woods, Ed Foley, Charles Hubbard, and Collin Woods. Gene Bradley “Brad” Martin obit

Gene Bradley "Brad" Martin, age 14, of Trion, GA died Monday, April 5, 2010 in Andrews, NC from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Brad was born September 11, 1995 in Rome, GA, the son of Gene and Rebecca Martin. He was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church where he was a member of the Youth Group. He was an Honor Student at Summerville Middle School where he was a member of the F. F. A. and the Beta Club. He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Braden Martin, who also died in the automobile accident; and a grandfather, Gene Martin, Sr.

Survivors include his parents, Gene B. Martin, Jr and Rebecca "Becky" Martin; a brother, Brannon Martin; grandparents, Charles and Lois Edwards, all of Trion, GA and Carol Martin, Summerville, GA; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Mrs. Beth Martin Barkley age 90 of Lyerly Street Summerville passed away on Tuesday April 6th in a Rome hospital…She was borned in Calhoun, on April 20th 1919 to the late Rev. J.A. Smith and Dora Pass Smith and was  a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church and was owner operator of the former Finland Pet Store, preceded in death by husbands the late Holland B. Martin and J.C. Barkley, granddaughter Laurie Diane Martin….

Surviving are daughters and spouse Dorene and Bobby White of Dalton and Mary E. Martin of summerville, son and Spouse Rev. Sidney & Marsha Martin of Norwood, N.C. Grandchildren Susan and Scott Griffin, Gregg and Pam Martin, Tracy and Bill Grissett, and Stacy and Nick Beason, 8 Great Grandchildren, Brother James E. Smith of Decatur, several nieces and nephews also survive…

Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 frm the South Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Sidney Martin and Rev. Brown Obit

Mrs. Clara Mae Brown, age 77, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born August 4, 1932 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Albert Darnal and Thelma Edith Keen Carpenter. She had worked at Barwick and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Carpenter, sisters, Vera Lee Digsby and Evelyn Busby, grandchildren, Regina Faye Prince and Kenneth Daniel Prince. Mrs. Brown loved working out doors, gardening, and quilting.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Fay Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Faye Darnell and Eddie McWhorter, Trion, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Bucky Ray and Marcia Brown, Meigs, GA and Brannon Lamar Brown, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Shawn Ray Brown, Bryan Ray Brown, Crystal Monique Brown, Rachel Marie Barrett, and Heather Dawn Barrett; 4 Great Grandchildren; a number of Nieces and Nephews; adopted family, Tammy & Ricky Payne, Tory Lee Payne, and Secret and Kammie Payne.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held at 1:00 p. m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Henderson Obit

Mr. William Edward "Ed" Henderson age 78 of Summerville passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at his residence.  He was born November 11, 1931 in DeKalb County, Alabama, son of the late Jeff William and Addie Lee Walker Henderson.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Reigel Textile Mill, member of the Quarter Century Club and a member of Pennville Chritian and Missionary Alliance Church.  Mr. Henderson was a veteran of the US Army.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, William Ladon Henderson and great granddaughter Shawna Stapp.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Jane Barnett Henderson, Summerville; son, Eddie Henderson; two daughters, Lori Westbrooks and Marily Silvers; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson Officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearres are requested to meet at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 1:30 PM and include the following:  Will McNeese, Bobby and Kyle Spear, Gary Floyd, Eugene Cordell and Greg Harrison.  Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Chattooga County EMS, Mickey and Rickey Silvers, Bud Dempsey and John Mason.
