Mrs. Emma Maxine Strange

Mrs. Emma Maxine Strange age 76, of Summerville, GA. passed away Tuesday morning, February 2, 2010, at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, GA she was born to the late Lewis and Gertrude Ray Helton on November 29, 1933 and was a member of Berryton Baptist Church.  Mrs Strange was preceded in death by her son Ricky Strange, sister- Pauline Bridges and Virginia Harris, brother- Alvin Helton, Buck Helton and Hobby Helton.

Surviving are two daughters Pat Brison of Liburn and Sara Strange of Summerville; Four sons, Lewis Strange of Trion, Marty Strange of Duluth, Bobby Lee Strange of Birmingham, AL, and John Strange of Fort Oglethorpe; One sister Carol Davis of Berryton; Two Brothers Harold Helton of Berryton and Wayne Helton of Pennville; Four Grandsons, Clint Strange, Bo Brison, Alex Brison and Justin Strange; Six Granddaughters, Paula Schumacher, Emily Kendall, Shelley Strange, Jessica Hudson, Tara Cruise and Lea Hamilton; Eight Great Grandchildren, serveral nieces and nephews also survive.

 Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3rd at 3:00pm from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Megan Strange and Paster Mickey Skates officiating, interment is Summerville Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2PM until the hour of service.  Active Pallbearers will be Clint Strange, Bo Brison, Justin Strange, Alex Brison, Kenny Kendall, and Pierre Hudson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Country Side Hospice and Tonya Dawson.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 PM until the hour of the service.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Mrs. Sarah Kathleen Baggett

Mrs. Sarah Kathleen Baggett, age 91, of Trion, GA died Monday, February 1, 2010 at Hutcheson
Medical Center.
Mrs. Baggett was born July 8, 1918 in Cherokee County, AL the daughter of the late Dayton
and Ovie McRae Henderson. She was a life long resident of the Mountain View Community.
Mrs. Baggett was a charter and life long member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Baggett; and daughter, Lanelle Ray.
Survivors include her son, Allan Baggett; grandchildren, Kym Masters, Kerry Ray, Sherry
Jordan, and Brian Baggett; sisters, Claudia Brown and Ruth Brannon; sister-in-law, Evelyn
Lemming.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville
Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brian Baggett, Jeff Masters, Chris Jordan, Kerry Ray,
Billy Stewart, and Allan Baggett. Honorary pallbearers will be all member of Mountain View
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Baggett will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from

Mrs. Mary S. Littlejohn Ragland

Mrs. Mary S. Littlejohn Ragland, age 90, of Trion GA, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 in Shepard Hills Health Care Center.

Mrs. Ragland was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Lafayette, GA, the daughter of the late Everette Montague and Mary Alice Dunn Littlejohn. She was a member of the Trion 1st Baptist Church, The Red Hat Society, and the Bridge Club. Mrs. Ragland was  preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward (Chesty) Ragland.

Mrs. Ragland is survived by a niece and her husband, Kathy & Tome Sisemore; a nephew and his wife; Perry & Betty Littlejohn; serveral great and great great Nieces and Nephews; and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Warren Moorhead and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating.  Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetary.  Active pallbearers will be Tom Sisemore, Matthew Debord, William Littlejohn, Barry Debord, Jon Payne, and Billy Hayden. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Shephard Hills Health Care Center.

Mr. Beaufford Morgan

Mr. Beaufford Alvin Morgan, age 90, of LaFayette, GA died Friday, January 29, 2010 at Parkridge Medical Center.

Mr. Morgan was born April 21, 1919 in Centre, AL, the son of the late John Douglas Morgan and Julie Leonard Morgan. He attended Dogwood Baptist Church. Mr. Morgan was retired from Staley Manufacturing Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the American Legion. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Verlie Brown and Viola Rose; and brothers, Bernete Morgan and Warren Morgan.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Morgan, Nieces and Nephews; and other family members, Jimmy and Doris Allen and their children, William C. Allen, Lacey E. Allen, Jana N. Allen, Ella M. Allen, Selena M. Allen, Christa S. Allen, Melissa S. Allen, and Justin Rowland.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Roy Gentry officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Allen, William Allen, Justin Roland, Andy Waltz, Logan Beachman and Kenneth Dorsey.

Mr. Morgan will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p. m. Sunday, January 31, 2010.

 

Mrs. Mary Ann Pesterfield

MRS. MARY ANN PESTERFIELD, 83, of Summerville, Georgia died Saturday, January 30, 2009, morning in a Rome hospital, while surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Summerville, Georgia on February 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. William King, Sr. She was graduated from Georgia State College for Women and taught 4th grade at Summerville Elementary School for 30 years. She received her Masters of Education from the University of Georgia, and was honored as Chattooga County Star Teacher in 1971. In 1975 she married E.C. Pesterfield, Sr. who preceded her in death June , 1991. Mrs. Pesterfield was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Iota Chapter, Chattooga County Retired Teachers Association and Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, Trion, Georgia.

Survivors include son-Thomas E. Neal, Athens; step daughter-Mrs. Kirk (Anne Pesterfield) Krueger, Trion; step son-J. David Pesterfield, Florida; nieces-Betsy King Dellenback and Mrs. Malcolm (Lucy King) Lee, Summerville, & Mrs. Marvin (Mary King) Czentnar, Rome; sister-in-law-Mrs. John William (Elliott) King, Jr., Summerville; her brother, John William King, Jr. and step son, E. Charles Pesterfield, Jr. preceded Her in death. Grandchildren, Mrs. Douglas (Lyn Pesterfield) Murajda, Boiling Springs, S.C., Susanne Pesterfield, and Margaret Pesterfield, Atlanta, and William Krueger and Anna Krueger, Chapel Hill, N.C. Great Grandchildren-Jessica Pesterfield, Atlanta and John Savor, Boiling Springs, S.C.; six Great Nieces, Three Great Nephews, one Great Great Niece, and five Great Great Nephews also survive. Mrs. James (Elizabeth King) Abney is her one surviving first cousin.

Mrs. Pesterfield loved being surrounded by the laughter and joy of her numerous great (and great great) nieces and nephews and always encouraged them to enjoy life’s blessings and to do their best as they followed their dreams. Her love of nature was evidenced by the many birds attracted to her homes in Gore and in Summerville. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers Adam Burdick, J Norris, John Oxford, James King Abney, Rob Dellenback, and Kelly Jordan; honorary pallbearers-James R. (Bud) Jackson, Sam Jones, and David Jones.

Family and extended family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service and Celebration of Life at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Earle RainwaterFuneral Home with Rev. Stephanie Pace, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Trion presiding. Margaret-Elliotte Czentnar, great niece, will provide a trumpet prelude and special music selected for the service by Mrs. Pesterfield. Interment will follow at Summerville Cemetery. The Family respectfully request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Trion, Georgia.

Mrs. Patricia King

Mrs. Patricia H (patty) King, age 57, of Cloudland, GA passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010, at her residence following an extended illness.  A native of Atlanta, GA.  She was born to the late Mary Ruth Walker Hawkins and Charles Henry Hawkins, Sr. (who survives) on June 7, 1952.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, P.C.A and a former Teacher.

 Surviving are her Husband Rev. Greg King; Father- Charles Hawkins, Sr. of Summerville; daughter & spouse- Cathy & Matt Buckland of Orlando, FL; son- Micheal King of Asheville, NC; brother- Charles Hawkins, Jr of Sautee, GA

 Funeral services will be held Thurdsay, February 4th, at 7:00 pm from the First Presbyterian Church P.C.A. with the Rev. James Richter officiating, interment on Friday, February 5th, in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery Tallbott, Tennessee.  Visitation will be Thursday, February 4th, immediately following the Funeral Services at the Church.  The family suggest contributions to the American Cancer Society or World Vision for Haiti Relief- PO box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063-9716

Mr. Ellis Marshall Tucker Jr. Obituary

Mr. Ellis Marshall Tucker, Jr., age 63, of Trion, GA died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Tucker was born November 24, 1946 in Blanche, AL, the son of Johnnie Mae Evans Tucker and the late Ellis Marshall Tucker, Sr. He was co-owner of Tucker’s Pools and Home Improvement. Mr. Tucker was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the VFW Post 6688. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathleen Lapsley.

Survivors include his mother, Johnnie Mae Tucker, son, Nathan Tucker, daughters and son-in-law, Kristina Tucker, and Kimberly and Tom Hoskins; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Larry Hughes, brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles "Whitey" and Brenda Tucker and Larry and Phyllis Tucker; grandchildren, Gracie Hogsten, Taylor Tucker, Miranda Tucker, and Brock Tucker.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Lowanna Jo Stowe Obituary

Mrs. Lowanna Jo Stowe, age 66, of Trion, GA died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at her residence in Trion.

Mrs. Stowe was born September 7, 1943 in Chattooga County, GA the daughter of the late Troy Smith and Verda Howell Smith. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She had worked at Best Manufacturing.

Mrs. Stowe is survived by her husband, James Kenneth Stowe; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Crystal Stowe; grandchild, Anna Stowe; and a sister, Mary Boaz.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Active pallbearers will be Maxey Garner, Michael Garner, Brent Garner, Troy Boaz, Mike Anderson, and Steve Anderson.

Mr. Mark Steve Braddy, age 60, of Atlanta, GA died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Redmond
Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Braddy was born December 28, 1949 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late William Thomas
and Margaret E. Drake Braddy. He was a member of Living Waters Ministries. He also attended
the Anchor South Training Center. He was active in his church, where he loved to sing.
Mr. Braddy is survived by brothers, David Braddy and Larry Braddy; caregivers, Gail Dotson
and Jeff & Laura Dotson; special friend, Jimmy Kidd; friends, Lamar Chatman and Ralph Cain;
and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at Living Water Ministries
with Rev. Billy Wright and Mr. Jeff Dotson officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial

Dempsey Obit

Mrs. Lilla Ree Dempsey, age 73, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Hutcheson Medical Center.

Mrs. Dempsey was born January 4, 1937 in Cleburne County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Lee Buron, Sr. and Hattie Haywood Zaner. She resided in several counties in Georgia and Alabama as she served the Lord alongside her husband in the pastoral ministry for 47 years,serving as church pianist for several churches. Mrs. Dempsey was a member of the Pennville Baptist Church, where she was active in the WMU and served as the church pianist. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dempsey was preceded in death by brothers, L. B. Zaner, Jr., Cranston Zaner, Wilton Zaner, and Lyndon Zaner.

Mrs. Dempsey is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Billy Dempsey; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Todd Thomas of Summerville; son, Greg Dempsey of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Callie Denise Thomas and Richard Cole Thomas; and a sister, Fay Jean Pettus of Anniston, AL; brother-in-law, Walter Phillips of Griffin, GA; sister-in-law, Brenda Zaner of Anniston, AL; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Quinn and Rev. Vernon Johnson officiating.
