Mrs. Mary Eva Brown, age 86, of Summerville, GA died Friday, June 12, 2009 at her residence.

 Mrs. Brown was born January 17, 1923 in South Carolina, the daughter of Joe and Bertha Miller. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Max Brown; a brother, Junior Miller and a sister, Lucy Miller.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby & Glen Brown, Natchez, MS, Kenneth and Betty Brown and Anthony Brown, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Abbey Gail Brown, Christy Thackerson, Anthony Ladon Brown, II, Casey Ladon Brown, Richard Allen Brown, and Lance Brown.

 Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, June14, 2009 at Greenhills Memory Garden with Pastor Edward Skoretz officiating. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Cousins.

Mrs. Brown will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Saturday. Mason Funeral Home is directing.

MR. JAMES L. (PAT) PLEDGER, age 70, of Ridgecrest Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (June 11, 2009) evening in a Rome hospital following an extended illness.

Born in Boaz, Alabama on August 14, 1938, a son of the late John Thomas and Bessie Turner Pledger. He was retired from auto body repair shop and bus driver. Mr. Pledger was member of West Summerville Baptist Church and Alpine Lodge #211 F & AM. He was preceded in death by a son, the late Christopher Kyle Pledger on May 21, 2007.

Surviving are wife-Shirley Mosier Pledger; daughter & son-in-law-Patricia & Lee Colgrove; son & daughter-in-law-Jimmy & Julie Pledger all of Summerville;  8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren;  sisters & brothers-in-law-Betty and Jerry Johnson of Summerville, Gay and Gary Shaw of Lyerly; brothers & sisters-in-law-T. C. & Beatrice Pledger of Summerville Artis & Patricia Pledger of Lyerly, Bob & Elaine Pledger, and Bill & Jenny Pledger all of Summerville; several Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

He was self employed in construction and was Baptist byfaith. MR. BEN JOHNSON, SR., age 92, of Lake Wanda Rita Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday (June 2, 2009) in a LaFayette, Georgia nursing home. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born to the late George and Mary Millican Johnson on May 28, 1917. Mr. Johnson attended the Pennville Gospel Tabernacle, was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Navy, and was retired from the Georgia Glove Mill.

Surviving are His wife-Faye Belle Whitley Johnson ; daughter-Mary Young of Trion; son Ben Johnson, Jr. of Summerville; step daughters-Brenda Chambers of Summerville and Gail Henry of New Mexico; five Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2PM from the JD Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy wilborn officiating, internment in Summerville Cemetary. MS. LAURA ALLISON PULLEN, age 34, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday (June 1, 2009) afternoon in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital following a sudden illness. Ms. Pullen was born in Floyd County, Georgia on March 29, 1975. She graduated from Chattooga High School in 1993 and from the Medical College of Georgia in 1997; she was a Dental Hygienist. Ms. Pullen was a member of The Horizon Baptist Fellowship and was preceded in death by grandparents-the late Joe and Sera Pullen and the late Alfred Sherman.

Surviving are Her son, Andrew Landon (Drew) Pullen; Parents, Van & Phyllis Pullen all of Summerville; sister and husband, Andrea & Guy Ingram, III of Ellenwood, GA.; nephew, Wil Ingram ; grandmother, Dixie Sherman of Calhoun; aunts & uncles, Joe & Jan Pullen of Lyerly, Pete & Ruth Kleeman of Calhoun, Raiden & Judy Sherman of Rome; cousins, Michael Kleeman of Atlanta and Kimberly Wood of Canton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (June 3rd) at 2:00 P.M. from the Horizon Baptist Fellowship with Rev. Roger McDonald officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers-Adam Burdick, Kevin Bond, Kyle Duke, Tad Allen, Michael Kleeman, and Ben Fuller; Honorary Pallbearers, the Chattooga High School Class of 1993. Mrs. Martha Irene Smith, age 51, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born August 8, 1957 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Hoyt Ledford and Grace Martha Frost Ledford. She was a homemaker and a member of New Faith Tabernacle.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Wayne Smith, sons, Eddie Smith and Eddie Cook; duaghters, Leatha Smith, Melissa Cook, and Melita Cook; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Tracy Ledford; and 11 Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at New Faith Tabernacle with Rev. Walter Morgan, Rev. Ray Caldwell, and Sister Kay Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Smith, Ronnie Lepps, Stevie Craig, Ronnie Hall, Johnny Thompson, and Roger Gallaway. Haney obit

Mr. Carl David Haney, age 57, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Haney was born July 28, 1951 in Dekalb County, AL, the son of the late James Louis Haney, Sr. and Betty Jo Wofford Haney. He was employed at Mohawk Industries and was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church. In his spare time Mr. Haney loved to do carpentry.

He is survived by his children, Carla and Joseph Jennings, Sara Jo Haney, and Erika Blackwell; granddaughter, Tessa Jennings; companion, Renee Blackwell; all of Summerville, GA; sister, Brenda Grogan, Trion, GA; brother, Louis Haney, Summerville, GA; and a special niece, Shannon Crabtree, Trion, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derek Hall officiating. Burial will follow at AMI Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Derry Maddux, Rusty Maddux, Stacy Henderson, Billy Willingham, Greg Wofford, Byron Wofford, Tracy Evans, and Jason McArthur. Honorary pallbearers will be Richie Willingham, Johnny Drennan, Mike Wofford, and the employees of Mohawk Industries Lyerly Maintenance Crew.
