Mr. William Henry “Jack” Pickle, Sr. age 80, of SummervilleGA died Friday, March 13, 2009at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Pickle was born October 11, 1928 in Berryton, GA, the son of the late Henry Guy and Vera Cox Pickle.  He had worked at Harriet and Henderson Cotton Mill.  He was a veteran of theUnited States Army, having served in the Korean War.  Mr. Pickle was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Pickle.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Jackson Pickle; sons, William Pickle, Jr, Chris Pickle,Mike Pickle, Jonathan Pickle, Jeremy Pickle, Jerome Pickle, and Seth Pickle; daughters,Cynthia Pruitt and Jennifer Pickle; brother, Frank Pickle; sisters, Beul Hawkins, NeraBell Bailey; 13 Grandchildren; and 19 Great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 from the chapel of MasonFuneral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge and Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be William Pickle, Jr., Seth Pickle, Chris Pickle, Todd Pickle, Doug Turner, and Damon Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Stephenand Bobby Studdard.Mr. Pickle will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Joe Mathis Barker

Mr. Joe Mathis Barker, Sr., age 69, of Lee School Road, LaFayette, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Hutchenson Medical Center.  Mr. Barker was born June 11, 1939, in Chatooga County Georgia.  He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills, was Baptist by faith and a former member of the Trion Masonic Lodge, No. 106.

Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clarence Barker. Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Powell Barker of LaFayette, GA; mother, Flossie Irene Angles Barker of Summerville, GA; daughters, Angie Eller of Trion; Debra Hannah of Calhoun, GA; Rebecca Barker of LaFayette, GA; a son, Joe M. Barker, Jr., of LaFayette, GA; step-son, Mike Barnett of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Janice Trimble of Atlanta, GA; Joyce Williams of Trion, GA; Delaine Lonergan of Rome, GA; brother, Stan Barker of Ringgold, GA; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several neices and nephews also survive.

Mr. Barker will lie-in-state Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00pm.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11:00am from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Powell officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Stan Barker, Charles Akery, Jimmy McGraw, Curtis James, Donnie Maddox and Gordon Williams.  Honorary pallbearer will be Pete Coffman.  The pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30am on Saturday.

Mr. Cecil Alvin Hughes, age 75, of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009 at his residence.Mr. Hughes was born July 22, 1933 in Ft Payne, AL, the son of the late John and Essie Rice Hughes.  Mr. Hughes was a self employed Barber, and a member of the Community Holiness Church.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hughes.Survivors include his wife, Betty Hughes, children, Robert Hughes, Raymond Hughes,Rondall Hughes, Carolyn Owens, and Sharon Reed; grandchildren, Brent Hughes, Carla Hughes, Josh Hughes, Jason Hughes, Christie Hulsey, and Kelley Roberts; 10 Great-Grandchildren; brother, Buddy Hughes; sisters, Shirley Sims and Frances Guffey; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Lyerly Cemeterywith Rev. Paul Edgeworth officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Jason Hughes, Josh Hughes,Brent Hughes, Manuel Owens, Glenn Reed, and Frankie Hughes.  Honorary pallbearer will beMichael Hughes.

Mrs. Doris Ruth Day, age 76, of Menlo, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Day was born in LaFayette, Georgia on March 4, 1933, daughter of the late Porter Hinton and Lena Powell Day. She was employed with Best Manufacturing, and was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Vaughn, a sister, Kathryn Jo Williams; and a nephew, Michael Dempsey.

Mrs. Day is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Larry Starkey of Summerville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Kris and Christy Willis of Summerville; Nieces and Special Friends Karen Howard and Jimmy McCullough and Pam and Derrick Brown; three grandchildren, Riley Willis, Hannah Marks and Tripp Marks.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Day will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Brown, Scott Howard, Jimmy McCullough, Matt Heaps, Donnie Moss, Dustin Moss, Jackie Cash and Andy Cash. Wade Obit

Mr. Steven Anthony Wade, age 62, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday, March, 6, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Wade was born in Trion, GA on January 11, 1947, the son of the late Edward Lee and Catherine Johnson Wade. He was a member of the Lookout Hall Church of Christ and was retired from Mount Vernon Mills.

Mr. Wade is survived by his wife, Gail Anderson Wade; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wendy Wade, Trion; and sisters, Elaine Allmon, Subligna, and Diane Smith, Summerville.

Funeral services for Mr. Wade will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Minister Terry York officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ken Anderson, Kevin Scoggins, Daniel Williams, Mark Scoggins, Richard Brock, John Johnson, Kyle Scoggins, and Ben Hege. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Lookout Hall Church of Christ.

Mr. Larry A. Gillilan Obituary UPDATED

Mr. Larry A. Gillilan, age 63, of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Gillilan was born in Trion, Georgia on May 16, 1945 son of the late Verbon and Maxine Braddy Gillilan. He was a member of the Trion Church of God of Prophecy for 47 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for the Adult Class, member of the Praise and Worship Team, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Church Golf and Fundraising Committee and was the Church Entertainer. Mr. Gillilan was previously employed with Barwick as a Production Controller, Mohawk as a carpet expeditor, managed the Stansell Furniture Store in Lafayette and was a sales associate with Stansell Furniture in Summerville. He retired from the Hamilton Medical Center as an Emergency Room Floor Tech, and presently was an Assistant Funeral Director with Mason Funeral Home. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gillilan was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Clara Davenport.

Mr. Gillilan is survived by the love of his life for 43 years, Doris Stansell Gillilan, to whom he was married on June 27, 1965; Nephew, Floyd Davenport, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Chickamauga; Special Great Niece and Great Nephew he considered children, Stephanie and Jeff Jenkins of Trion; Great Nephew, Gary Davenport of Dalton; Great Great Niece and Nephew he considered Grandchildren Madicyn and Mason Jenkins; Brother-in-law, Floyd Davenport, Sr. of Trion; and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Gillilan will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Phillip D. Minter, Dr. C.E. Carden, Rev. Meredith Crow, Rev. Charles Trotter and Rev. Joel A. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne McNeese, Wayne Parker, Doug Gill, Jerry Corbin, Buford Lee Fox and Roy Bowers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terrell Baker, JW Drennan, Rev. Eric Minter, Rev. MRS. WILLIE JEAN WOOTEN MILLER, age 84, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama passed away Friday (March 6, 2009) morning in a Rome nursing home. She was born in Dekalb County, Alabama to the late General William and Savannah Cole Wooten on December 1, 1924. Mrs. Miller was a Homemaker, Baptist by Faith, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Ollie Reed Miller.Surviving are Her daughter-Pauline Sanchez of Cedar Bluff, AL.; sons-Jimmy Miller and Howard Miller of Rome and G. W. Miller of Trion; brother-Herbert Wooten of Ft. Payne, AL.; 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.Funeral services will be held Sunday (March 8th) from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Baird and Brother Micca Gilliespie officiating, interment in Town Creek Cemetery-Rainsville, Alabama. Mr. Samuel C. Edwards

Mr. Samuel C. (Sam) Edwards, age 81, of Bittings Avenue, Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2009, in the local nursing home.  A native Chattoogaian, Mr. Edwards was born to the late Benjamin F. and Kathleen Smiley Edwards on February 17, 1928.  He was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the church.  Mr. Edwards was retired from the rubberizing department of the former Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Margaret Headrick Edwards, November 19, 2003.

Surviving are son, Samuel Merle Edwards of Slidell, LA; granddaughter, Leslie Edwards of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Ted Edwards of the Armuchee community; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, at 3:00pm from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Summey officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetary.

Active pallbearers are: Leroy Buice, Bob Reynolds, Mike Poole, Mike Smith, David Young and Tommy Rabun.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Summerville First Baptist Church.

Visitation is Saturday, March 7, from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the funeral home.  Mr. Edwards requested no flowers; instead make contributions to the Summerville First Baptist Church.

SFC/E7 Emanuel Patterson, formerly of Chattooga County, (Summerville, GA), passed away February 26, 2009 in Atlanta, GA.  He retired after serving 24 1/2 years as a Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Patterson; two sons, Broderick and Britton Bateman; three brothers, Mr. John L. Patterson, Mr. Joe Patterson and Mr. Elvin Patterson; brother-in-law, Mr. Curtis Hudgins; sisters-in-law Ms. Cora Patterson; Ms. Mozelle Patterson and Ms. Edna Hudgins, Ms Annie Martin, Ms Myrtle Price and Ms Ramona Hudgins and a host of neices and nephews.  His request for cremation has been entrusted to Alfonso Dawson Mortuary in Atlanta, GA.
