Sheila Diane Mobbs Obit

Mrs. Shelia Diane Mobbs, age 53, of Gaylesville, AL died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Mobbs was born January 13, 1956 in Trion, GA, the daughter of Fred McDonald and the late Betty Tapp Slayton.  She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.  Mrs. Mobbs was co-owner and operator of M & M Embroidery. 
 She was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Slayton. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Wayne Mobbs; children, Michael Wayne Mobbs,Jackie Brewster, Kimberly Daggett, and Belinda Keith, all of Gaylesville, AL; father, Freddie McDonald; Centre, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Gene  and Maryann McDonald, Centre; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie & Freddy Rich, Summerville, GA; Deborah &  Phillip Nixon, Gaylesville, AL; grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Wise, Austin Reed, and Alissa Keith.
Funeral services will be  held at 4:00 p. m. (EST) Friday, March 6, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Teague and Rev. Mickey Skates officiating.  Burial will follow in Weiss Lake Memorial Garden.  Active pallbearers will be Chadney
McDonald, Tracy Mitchell, Matt Floyd, Dean cornett, Nicky Carter, and David Broome.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Mitchell, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
Mrs. Mobbs will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends
from 6:00 until 8:00 p . (EST) Thursday, March 5, 2009.

Mrs. Nancy Palmer “Polly” Matthews, age 88, of Chattanooga, TN formerly of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Centre, Alabama on March 5, 1920, daughter of the late Joseph E. and Nellie Fleming Palmer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta and loved ballroom dancing. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Matthews was employed with the Eastman-Kodak Company for 26 years.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by a son, Gerald A. (sandra)Yates of Atlanta; daughter, Jennille (Jim)Jumper of Chattanooga, TN; 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Matthews will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. in the Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. George Palmer officiating.

Pallbearers will be great-grandchildren, Anderson Haney,Scooter Hillis, Seth Hillis, Dustin Hillis, Travis Hillis and Shane Hillis.

Mrs. Matthews will be in state at Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

Nancy Palmer Matthews
Mrs. Nancy Palmer “Polly” Matthews, age 88, of Chattanooga, TN formerly of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Harris, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday February 27, 2009, at the residence of her son in Summerville, GA.Mrs. Harris was born March 15, 1942, in Chattooga County Georgia, the daughter of the late Joe Terry and Annie Gwin Crider Greene. She was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bobby Ray Harris, a sister, Marie Thomas, brothers, Lloyd Greene, Leonard Greene, Scott Lee Greene, Russell Fay Greene, Donnie Greene. Survivors include son & daughter-in-law, Terry Ray and Lynnette Harris, Summerville, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Faye and Ron Amundson, Gibly, N.D. grandchildren, Jeremy Amundson, Sara & Dan Sprosty, Greg & Janet Amundson, Jonathan & Genna Harris, Caleb Harris, Rick Phinazee, Stephanie Phinazee 5 great-grandchildren, sisters, Eula Story, Elaine Jackson, brother, Wayne Greene. Rodgers Obit

Mrs. Rebecca Jayne Rodgers age 58 of Gaylesville, Alabama formerly of the Holland Community and Lyerly for 30 years, passed away on Sunday (March 1, 2009) morning at her residence following an illness.  A native of Cherokee County, Alabama she was born to the late James Dan Richey, Sr. and Frances Tevis Pruitt Richey on July 28, 1950.  Mrs. Rodgers was a teller for AmSouth Bank for 20 years; later she was a life insurance sales person.  She was preceded in death by her husband the late George Rodgers. Surviving are daughter and son in law, Laura and Ronald Bice of Summerville and grandchildren Matthew Bice and Brittany Carmon; step grandchildren, Kevin and Tiffany Bice and Vinita Youngblood; sister Gail Dorsett; brother, James Danny Richey both of Centre, Al and two nieces, April Greene and Denise Cope. Visitation will be Monday (March 2nd) from 5 until 7 PM at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Funeral Service to follow at 7 PM. From the JD Hill Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mr. Chester Curtis Howard, age 92, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, February 24,2009 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Howard was born April 13, 1916 in Dekalb County, AL, the son of the late WilliamPinkney and Ninnah Mary Craft Howard.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills andwas a member of the Pennville Church of Christ.  Mr. Howard was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Dovie Ernest and Bertha Johnson, and brothers, Charles Howard, Winston Howard, Marvin Howard, and Ozell Howard.
Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Anne Lee Williams Howard, Summerville, GA; sisters, Minnie Burton, Summerville, GA, and Delera Vinson, Lamar, MO; sisters-in-law, Betty Duckett, Rossville, GA and Daphine Hammitt, Summerville, GA; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Minister Robbie Eversole officiating.  Burial will follow in Garrett Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be members of the Pennville Church of Christ.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and Nephews.

Mr. David Hoyt Guffey, age 32, of Menlo, GA died Monday, February 23, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Guffey was born March 30, 1976 in Walker County, GA the son of James Willie and Brenda Faye Hampton Guffey. He was a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church and the Chattooga-Walker Ham Radio Club. Mr. Guffey was preceded in death by his grandfather; “Pa” Barnard Guffey, uncle, Dan Guffey; and aunt, Pat Guffey. Survivors include his parents, Willie and Brenda Guffey, Menlo, GA; grandmother, Mary Jo Guffey; grandparents, Hoyt & Ann Hampton; special brother, Shaun Guffey; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home with Bro. Robby Jackson, Bro. Gregg Ledford, and Bro. Marvin Perkins officiating. Mrs. Carolyn Wooten Helton, age 65, of Summerville, GA died Monday, February 23, 2009at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Helton was born April 9, 1943 in Trion, GA, the daughter of  W.R. and Lillie Willoughby Wooten.  She was a  homemaker and a member of  Berryton Baptist Church. Mrs. Helton was preceded in death by a son, Todd Helton, and brothers, Truman Wooten and Billy Fain Wooten.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Harrison, Trion, GA; parents, W. R. and Lillie Wooten, Summerville, GA; brother & sister-in-law, Buddy and Elaine Wooten, Summerville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Larry Hunter, Summerville, grandchildren, D. J. Ms. Pamela Green, age 48 of Old hwy. 27 in Trion, passed away Monday Morning at her residence.  Ms. Green was born in Gadsden on June 10th, 1960 to the late John and Helen Chapman Cantrell.  Surviving are daughter Kelly Green of Trion, a son Randy Green of Summerville. Two sisters Ramona Cantrell of Rainsville and Paula Raye Bartlett of Floriday, one brother Ray Cantrell of Ft Payne, two grandsons, Jordan Green and Andrew Hinton both of Trion, Several nieces and Nephews also survive.. Mrs. Amanda Viola Edgeworth, age 85, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Edgeworth was born in Cedar Bluff, Alabama on December 29, 1923, daughter of the late Will Proctor and Vora Lee Hunter Proctor. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Mrs. Edgeworth is survived by her husband, Ellis Lee Edgeworth of Summerville; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Johnny Allison, Douglasville, Woodrow Allison, Calhoun, Wayne and Rhonda Edgeworth, Daphene, AL, and Eddie and Marie Edgeworth, Summerville; Daughters and Sons-in-law, Ann and J.T. Harris, Lynn and Kenneth Vaughn and Toni Kilgore all of Summerville; one Sister, Arlene Williams of Summerville; 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Edgeworth will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
