Martha Sue Smith Obit

Mrs. Martha Sue Smith, age 78, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Saturday February 14, 2009, in Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Smith was born May 13, 1930, in Chattooga County, the daughter of the late William Terry and Mary Jane Hope Holbrook. Mrs. Smith was retired from Harriett-Henderson and was a member of the Mt. Olive Church.

Survivors include her children, William LaDon Smith, Opp, AL, Matt LaDon Smith, Mentone, AL, Johnny Fay Smith, Cloudland, GA, Debbie Jean Dover, Collinsville, AL, Gaynell Worthey, Donna Smith, Mentone, AL, Denise Green, Cloudland, GA, 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday February 16, 2009, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William (Shorty) Dover officiating with interment in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Ray Ballinger, Charles Ballinger, Curtis Holbrook, Dennis Hartline, Chad Green, Houston Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons. Mrs. Smith will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday February 15, 2009.

 

Pettyjohn Obit

Mrs. Doris Louise Greene Pettyjohn, age 81, of Walker Street, Trion, GA, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Mrs. Pettyjohn was born in Chattooga County, GA on December 12, 1927.  She was retired from Best Manufacturing and was a member of Trion United Methodist Church and a member of Summerville Chapter #434 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Pettyjohn was preceded in death by her parents, James Claude Greene and Celia Ellie Keasler Greene; brother, Ray H. Greene and a nephew, Ray H. Greene, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas S. Pettyjohn of Trion, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and John Sterner of Summerville, GA; grandson, Mason David Sterner of Summerville; sister-in-law, Linda J. Greene of Summerville; a niece and her husband, Celia and Craig Holt of Summerville; great-nephew, Jared Holt of Summerville; great-niece and her husband, Bethany and Brooklyn Stiefel of Rosedale, GA; several other nieces and nephews and a life-long friend, Joye Palmer, also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 15, 2009, at 4:00pm, from the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.  Internment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Pettyjohn will lie-in-state Sunday, February 15, at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends for 2:00 to 4:00pm.

Pallbearers will be Craig Holt, Jared Holt, Butch Camp, Don Wilson, Reuben Kennemore and Robbie Hamby.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class of Trion United Methodist Church, Staff and F Hall of Oakview Nursing Home, Dr. Bruce Lee and Betty Nalley.

At other hours the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Rhonda Sterner, Greeson Street, Summerville.

Anthony Obit

Mr. Grady Jerome Anthony passed away Saturday February 7th at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.  He is the son of the late Mr. John Anthony and MRs. Annette Anthony.  He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia and was educated in the public schools of Chattooga County.

He was employed at Local Union 438 in Atlanta, Georgia for a number of years.  He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, 7 children, 5 brothers and 2 sisters along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Pond Springs AME Zion Church in Holland, Georgia with Donald Patterson officiating.

Mr. Anthony will lie in state at the church 2 hours before the funeral service where the family will receive friends.

Ms. Frances Pauline Adams, age 63, of Trion passed away Tuesday, February 10,
2009 at her residence.
Ms. Adams was born in Walker County, GA on November 26, 1945, daughter of the late Starling K.C. Adams and Thelma Pauline Williams Adams.  She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills as a Spinner.Ms. Adams is survived by a Brother and Sister-in-law, David E. and Melissa Fox Adams; Sister and Brother-in-law, Linda Gail Adams and John Pritchett; Nephews,
Jonathan & Amanda Bice Pritchett, Justin Adams, Casey Adams; and a Great Nephew, Landan Pritchett.Funeral Services for Ms. Adams will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Ridgeway Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Smith and Rev. Marty McRae

Bramlett Obit

Mr. James Eugene Bramlett, age 37 of Resaca, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Bramlett was born in Houston, Texas on June 30, 1971, son of Mattie Bell Bishop Elrod and the late James Jerry Bramlett. He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church and was self employed as a farm laborer. In addition to his father, Mr. Bramlett was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Allen Bramlett.

Mr. Bramlett is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mattie and Joel Elrod; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerri and Eddie Massey and Sherri and Kenny Cooley; nieces, Vanessa Massey, and Rachel Cooley; Nephews, Lee and C.E. Massey; and a number of other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Memorial Services for Mr. Bramlett will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Beaver officiating. Private Interment will be in the AMI Cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley Cleo Crider, 84 of Tate Road, Trion passed away Friday January 30 in Oakview Nursing Home.  She was born April 20, 1924, daughter of the late Samuel Luther, Sr. and Julia Ellen Mills Grogan.  She was retired from Mt. Vernon Riegel and was of the Methodist faith.  Mrs. Crider was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Crider, son Larry Ray Crider, 4 brothers Samule Jr., Earl, Michael and Glenn Grogan; 3 sisters Emma Lee Bowman, Evelyn Lancaster and Thelma Colbert.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Kay Kostka of Broadview, IL, granddaughter Tracy L. Kostka of Broadview, IL, grandson Dennis R. Kostka of Old Park, IL, 1 Sister Doris E. Morgan of Trion, special friends David and Mary Young of Trion, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday February 4, at 3 PM from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Guinn officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are requested to meet at the Funeral Home at 2:30 PM on Wednesday and include the following:  Larry and Loy Gilreath, Gene Hall, Tommy Gray, Kenneth Bowman and Dennis Kostka.

Mrs. Leatha Johnson Richie, age 85, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Mrs. Richie was born April 20, 1923 in Caves Spring, GA, the daughter of the late Rufus Andrew and Annie Mae Highfield Johnson. She was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church. She was co-owner and operator of Richie’s Clothing Store for 53 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Marion “Jim” Richie. Survivors include nephew, Larry (Connie Johnson) Howard, Summerville, GA; nieces, Carol Johnson (Murray) McCann, Rome, GA, Anna Howard, New, GA, Connie Huff, Johnson City, TN, Karen (J. D.) Page, Penny (Carl) Wilson, Donna (Dave) Dittman, all of Houston, TX, sister, Ava Johnson (Sol) Dittman, Houston, TX, nine Great Nieces and Nephews; 12 Great-great Nieces and Nephews.
