Mrs. Lillie Mack Pursley, age 99, of Trion, GA died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Pursley was born May 13, 1909 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the late Mack and Lillie Hardwick. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Pursley was the oldest member of the Trion First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Pursley; daughter, Sybile Pursley Harris; 4 Brothers; and 4 Sisters. Survivors include a son-in-law, Rev. Tom Harris, Maryville, TN; grandson, Rev. Gilbert Harris, Kentucky, several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Harris and grandson, Rev. Gilbert Harris officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Yvonne Barrett, 85 of Marsh Avenue Trion passed away Thursday in Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center..She Was born July 11th, 1923 in Greensboro, GA> and was retired from Reigel Textile Corp. and was a member of Trion First Baptist Church..She was preceded in death by her husband Eldred Deforest Barrett, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.. She is survived by a son and daughter in law, Charles and Ann Barrett of Austell, Grandsons and wives, John and Sandra Barrett and Brian and Beth Barrett of Powder Springs, several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. John M. Carroll, age 73, of Lyerly, GA., passed away Sunday September 28, 2008, at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carroll was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Lowell, MA., the son of the late John T. and Jean Bertha Andrysak Carroll. Mr. Carroll was retired Sgt Major from the U.S. Army with 30 years of service. He had over 24 different awards including army commendation medals, service medals, bronze stars, legion of merit awards, and others. He spent tours of duty in Germany, England, Italy, Vietnam. He was Inaugural NCO for President Nixon?s Inauguration in 1969 and AG Sergeant at Ft McPherson. Mr. Carroll received several diplomas starting with Leo University FL., and the State University of New York, Albany, He spent his last 10 years as a substitute teacher with Chattooga and Walker Counties. He was a former member of the Lyerly City Council, having served for five years. Survivors include his wife, Marion Carroll, daughters, Jennifer Carroll, Kennesaw, GA., Debbie Evans, Knaresborough, England, grandchildren, Natalie and Lynette Evans. Miss Nora Mae Laws, age 87, of Summerville, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at her residence. Miss Laws was born in Cherokee County, AL on September 27, 1920. She was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation after 39 years of service and was a member of the Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
Miss Laws was preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert Joe and Julian Hurley Laws, sisters, Bonnie Louise Laws, Josie Laws, Winnie Laws Freeman and Edith Marie Laws; brothers, Fletcher Laws, Taylor Laws, Joe Laws and Berry Laws.
Miss Laws is survived by a sister, Etna McCullough of Birningham, AL; nephew, Dexter Laws of Summerville and great nieve, Tara McElroy of Woodstock, GA; several nieces and nephews also survived.
