Mr. Larry Gene Ledbetter, age 63 of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2008, in Floyd Medical Center. Mr. Ledbetter was born January 30, 1946, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Marvin Elmer and Purney Artell Crane Ledbetter. He was also preceded in death by a wife, Denise Reynolds Ledbetter, sister, Patricia Ledbetter Bullington, a brother, Elmer Gray Ledbetter. Survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, Chris & Jan Ledbetter, Lafayette, GA, Jason & Hillary Ledbetter, Summerville, GA, sisters, Carolyn Wyatt, Nancy Farley, Summerville, GA, brothers, Mickey Ledbetter, Mt Dora, FL, Doug Ledbetter, Clay Ledbetter, Summerville, GA, Stanley Ledbetter, Seguin, TX, 1 grandchild, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-granchildren. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 3, 2009, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Flener officiating.

Williams Obit

Mrs. Margaret Turner Williams, age 88, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, December 30,

2008 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Williams was born September 29, 1920 in Duluth, Georgia, the daughter of the late Pierce and Effie Duncan Turner. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Mrs. Williams was formerly employed with Riegel Textiles. She was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Turner; sisters, Lucille Stansell, Virginia Crawford, and Emily Evans.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, R. D. Williams, Summerville, GA; son Kenneth Williams, Fayetteville, GA; sister, Ina Cook, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Keith Williams and Kelly Williams, and 5 Great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Williams Cemetery with Min. Hugh Glaze officiating. Active pallbearers will be Keith Williams, Kelly Williams, Billy Williams, Buddy Chapman, Steve Chapman, and Harland Chapman.

Mrs. Williams will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 p. m. until the service hour on Wednesday.

Sprayberry obit

Mrs. Ola Mae Sprayberry, age 86, of Gaylesville, AL died Sunday, December 28, 2008at her residence.Mrs. Sprayberry was born March 4, 1922 in Cherokee County, AL, the daughter of thelate William Shelton and Annie Barbara Roach Parker.  She was retired from Riegel 
Textiles where she had worked for 41 years.  Mrs. Sprayberry was a member of the BereaChurch of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, William C. “Bill”Tallent; her second husband, Ernest Sprayberry; sister, Foye Beatrice Tallent; brother,Wallace Eugene Parker.
Survivors include a daughter, Willie Mae Tallent Cooper; brother, W. A. Parker; sister,Mary Vaudean Donovits; grandchildren, Brenda Annette Cooper Evans and FrancesMaxine Cooper; great-grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Avery Simmons, AshleyRebecca Avery, and Katy Elizabeth Cooper Reynolds.Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. EST on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at theBerea Church of Christ with Min. Berlin Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow in theBerea Church of Christ Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Ralph Sentell, Jim Donovits,Steve Eden, James Eden, Daniel Eden, Simon Eden, and Joe Eden.  Honorary pallbearers
will be the employees of Amedisys Hospice Services of Gadsden, AL.

Mrs. Mildred L. Herod Obituary

Mrs. Mildred L. Herod, age 92, of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday (December 28, 2008) morning in a Rome Hospital. She was born in Dekalb County, AL to the late Oscar Shamblin and Ollive Elizabeth Reece Henderson on April 14, 1916. She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church. Mrs. Herod was a retired supply clerk for the City of Summerville and was preceeded in death by her husband the late John Cecil Herod on January 6, 1996.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Barbara Herod of Summerville; grandsons- Eddie Herod, Richie Herod, Stacy Herod, Jeremy Herod and Tony Butler; seven Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM from the JD Hill Memorial Chapel of the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor David Craven and Pastor Ken Westmoreland officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers- Randy Cox, Wayne Cox, Doug Stanfield, Cecil Reynolds, Steve Henderson, Wade Fortner and Wayne McArthur.  Honorary Pallbearers – Staff, Employees and Friends of Suites @ Oakview. Mrs. Celeste Maddux Obituary

Mrs. Celeste Maddux, age 57, of Trion, GA., passed away Saturday December 27, 2008, in Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Maddux was born July 31, 1951, the daughter of the late Gene Alan Newsome and Sue Hix Newsome. She was a member of the Son Rise Community Church, and preceded in death by a brother, David Alan Newsome. Survivors are husband, Donny Maddux, childen, Micah Maddux, Elizabeth Noel Stone, Heather Suzanne Maddux, Brooke Celeste Maddux, Savannah Alane Maddux, brother, Michael Eugene Newsome, sisters, Jacqueline Newsome, Rita Tanner, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday December 30, 2008 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the West Hill Cemetery. Jesse Carlton “Buck” Magnusson Obituary

Mr. Jesse Carlton “Buck” Magnusson, age 90, of Cloudland, GA passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Magnusson was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on March 3, 1918, son of the late King Magnusson and Vennie McKeen Magnusson. He was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the United States Army, and prior to retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills as a carpenter. Mr. Magnusson was preceded in death by a sister, Plumer Jeffers and a grandson, Kevin Godfrey.

Mr, Magnusson is survived by his wife, Eloise Pruitt Magnusson, to whom he was married on June 13, 1953; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dale and Jan Magnusson of Rome; Sister, Ms. Ruth Magnusson; grandchildren, Jason (Sara) Magnusson, Brooke Magnusson, Phillip (Daphne) Godfrey; great grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Magnusson.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Magnusson will be held Monday, December 29, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Jack Green officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Magnusson, Phillip Godfrey, Mus Johnson, Danny Deering, Kenny Lowenburg and Hershal Pruitt.

Mr. Magnusson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

William Eugene Byson Obituary

Mr. William Eugene Bryson, Sr., age 76, of Summerville passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Bryson was born in Trion, Georgia on May 20, 1932, son of the late William Luther Bryson and Ruth Inez Powell Bryson. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was employed in the Maintenance Department of the Bandmill Corporation in LaFayette.

Mr. Bryson is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ann Bryson; Son, William Eugene Bryson, Jr.; Daughters, Nancy Stringer and Debra Mahood; Brother, Charlie W. Bryson; 9 Grandchildren, 1 Step Grandson and 17 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bryson will be held Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Mr. Bryson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Ivey Obit Announcement

Mrs. Loui Ivey, Age 87 of Ramey Street in Summerville, passed away Friday December 26th in a LaFayette nursing home.  A native of Chattooga County she was born to the late Bruce Youngward and Velma McGraw Bynum on June 28, 1921.  She was a faithful member of Berryton Church of God, retired from the winding department of the former Harriett-Henderson Cotton Mill and preceded in death by her husband the late Thomas Lee Ivey, a brother the late Russell Bynum and a sister the late Betty Shireman.

Surving are her daughter, Sandra Rhodes of Texas, grandchildren: Darryle Ivey, LaFayette, Tony Cooper, Menlo, Tommy Cooper, Texas, and Chuck Ivey of Florida.  Great Grandchildren: Nicole Cooper, Collen Cooper, and Isabella Copper.  Sister: Ellen Wilson of Summerville.  Brother: James Bynum of Anapolis, MD; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Betty Joan Burney, age 81, of Trion, GA died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Burney was born December 7, 1927 in Graysville, TN, the daughter of the late Horace Tate and Clara Velma Jones Brewer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Way Baptist Church. Mrs. Burney was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Burney and a sister, Vauda Whaley.

Survivors include daughters & son-in-law, Justina Brock, Marie & Dewayne Lumpkin; sons & daughters-in-law, James & June Szymanski, Randolph & Nin Szymanski; sisters, Billie Fay Crain & Robie Lee Brewer; grandchildren, Shea & Tommy Smith, Michele & Michael Cooper, Terri & Frankie Thomas, Beth & Tim Cornett, Jimmy & Anona Szymanski; great grandchildren, Stephanie Shirley, Dameon Ingram, Laura Cornett, Alisha Cornett, Donny Cornett, Cheyenne Cooper, Eric Wood, Ashley Lumpkin, Autumn Thomas, and Levi Thomas.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Ami Cemetery with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Cornett, Michael Cooper Frankie Thomas, Dewayne Lumpkin, Jimmy Szymanski and Tommy Smith.
