Cooper Obituary

Mrs. Glenda Faye Cooper, age 61, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Cooper was born January 1, 1947 in Chattooga County, GA. She was the daughter of the late Roland and Wilma Allison Taylor. Mrs. Cooper was formerly employed at Roger Corporation.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Ray Stephens, Summerville, GA, and Danny Michael Stephens, Alabama; brothers, Bobby Allison, Summerville, GA, and Gerald Gibson, Mason, TX; cousin and care giver, Roy Meeler; and 2 Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Harper, Bruce harper, Karl Marbutt, J. B. Barbee, and Ricky Howell.

Mrs. Cooper will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Friday, August 1, 2008.

Tapp Obit

Mrs. Bertha Baldwin Tapp, age 90 of Maplewood Drive, Summerville passed away Tuesday in a Rome hospital.  A native of Albertville, Alabama she was born to the late Will and Pearl Howell Baldwin on August 22, 1917.  mrs. Tapp was a member of Prospect #2 Baptist Church and was retired from the spinning department of the former Summerville Cotton Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Charlie William Tapp; daughter the late Betty Slaytong and son the late Horace Tapp.

Surving are daughter- Sara Wester of Summerville; sons- Charles Tapp of Calhoun and Johnny Tapp of Summerville; 15 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren, 26 Great Great Grandchildren and several neices and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM from the JD Hill Memorial Chapel of the Earl Rainwater Funeral Home with Reve Sanford and Rev John Mann officiating, interment in the Trion Cemetery.  Active Pallbeareres willbe Terry Wester, Terry Wayne Wester, Jimmy Tapp, Corey Rose, Tim Hall and Dewayne Caldwell.  The Family will receive friends at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 until 9 PM

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Bentley, age 80, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Cherokee Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centre, AL.

Mrs. Bentley was born April 27, 1928 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Andrew and Annie Mitchell McGraw. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Bentley was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Bentley.

Survivors include her son, Tony Saylor, Summerville, GA; brothers, Tommy McGraw, Lyerly, GA, and A. J. McGraw, Prattville, AL; sisters, Rosa Trammell and Jean Crabtree, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Cody Saylor, Trey Saylor, and Jason Saylor; and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. J. McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Ponder, Don Trammell, Josh McGraw, Corey Bridges, Allen Powell, and Kyle Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Bain, Jacob Bain, Branch Barker, and Todd Money.

Martin Obituary

Mr. J. W. “Jake” Martin, age 79, of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Martin was born in Etowah County, AL, on June 19, 1929, son of the late James Walter Martin and Lettie Mae Churchwell Martin. He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church, attended Berryton Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with Bigelow Sanford and Mohawk. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Ball Martin, brother, Curtis Martin, and a sister, Net Deering.

Mr. Martin is survived by sons and daughters-inlaw, Roland Martin, Paul and Becky Martin of Summerville, George and Michelle Martin, LaFayette; daughters and son-in-law, Janie Lowry of Summerville, and Rebecca “Becky” and Derrell Millican of Summerville; brothers and sisters- in-law, John O. and Faye Martin of Boaz, AL, Willie Ray and Barbara Martin of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Iva McDonald, Summerville and Doris Battles, Gallant, AL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Earnie Ball of LaFayette and Pauline Ball of Toccoa, GA; grandchildren, Megan McCary, Katlyn Millican, Eddie Millican, Hannah Millican, Steven Millican, Jay Lowry, Jon Lowry, Paula Lowry, Gracie Martin, Allen Martin, Luke Martin, Step Grandchildren, Will Hendricks, Amanda Hendricks, Trevor Chastain and Taylor Chastain; Great Grandchildren, Noah Millican, Sarah Millican, Olivia Millican, Zoey Millican, Anaih McCary; Step Great Grandchildren, Samantha McNair and Derrick McNair.

Interment will follow in the Perennial Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Wynn officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jay Lowry, Jon Lowry, Eddie Millican, Allen Martin Luke Martin and Steven McCary. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Perennial Springs, Berryton, Trinity, Chelsea, Sardis and Harbor Lights Baptist Churches.

Mr. Gershon (Toby) Kilgore, age 77, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Kilgore was born May 29, 1931 in Pineville, Kentucky, the son of the late William L. & Plumer Simmons Kilgore. He was retired from Queen Carpet and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Kilgore was preceded in death by his wife, Wanza Lee Braddy Kilgore; sons, Jeff Kilgore and Tony Kilgore; sisters, Mildred Nix, Willie Jean Green, and Eunice Kilgore; brothers, James Kilgore and Dewey Lee Kilgore.

Mr. Kilgore is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Donny Willingham, Sandra and Rickey Phillips, all of Trion, GA, Patti & Johnny Elkins, LaFayette, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Kilgore, Lyerly, GA; 7 Grandchildren; and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Pettyjohn officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Carlton Odell Garner, age 72, of Duluth, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Humboldt Medical Center in Humboldt, Tennessee.

A native of Chattooga County, Mr. Garner was born June 1, 1936, son of the late Sam B. Garner and Grace Bailey Garner.  He was a member of the Doraville First Baptist Church, a United States Air Force Veteran, and prior to retirement, was employed with General Electric in Doraville, GA.

Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Garner of Summerville; Daughters, Janice Cohen, Sugar Hill, GA, Sherri Garner, Duluth, GA, Tonya Rafferty, Austin, AR, Debbie Aldridge and Lynn Dover of Trion; Step-daughters, Marilyn Doremus, Donna Peppers, and Tina Hale; Brothers, Sam B. Garner, Jr., Morrow, GA, Lloyd Garner, Conyers, GA; Sisters, Patricia Garner, and Delores Hayes, Dacula, GA and Lena Mae Scoggins, Orlando, FL.; 13 grandchildren also survive.

Graveside and Interment services for Mr. Garner will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Billy Wright officiating.  Pallbearers will be Mark Cohen, Jeff Rafferty, Shaka Zulu, and Dan Cooper.
