Southerland Obituary

Mrs. Clara Bell Southerland, age 61, of Trion, Georgia passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Southerland was born May 1, 1947 in Walker County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Aquille and Inez Mann Rape. She was employed with CVS Pharmacy. Mrs. Southerland was member of the New Bethel Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Treasurer and operated the sound system.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Southerland; children, Timothy Dewayne Southerland, Lafayette, Robert Brian Southerland and Mark Edward Southerland, both of Trion, Linda Sue Reynolds, Lafayette, and Karen Renee Swafford, Trion; brothers Joseph Rape, Lafayette, David Rape of Trion; sisters, Debbie Railey, Doris Wallin, Shelia Forker, Tammy Leonard, and Anita Rape, all of Lafayette, and Lou Jackson of Summerville; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Buster Fox, Reverend Tommy Brown, and Reverend Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Burt Reynolds, Andy Williams, J.C. Colbert, Paul Busby, Justin Chamlee, and Dewayne Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of CVS, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, and members of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Southerland will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008. She will lie in state at New Bethel Baptist Church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM on Thursday.

Ivester Obituary

Mrs. Alice Faye Ivester, age 62, of Lyerly, GA died Monday, June 9, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Ivester was born May 18, 1946 in LaFayette, GA the daughter of the late Mack & Peggy Perry Stephenson. She was a homemaker and attended the Faith Temple.  Mrs. Ivester was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ivester; brother, John Pendergrass,   Herbert Pendergrass, Grady Stephenson, Jackie Stephenson; grandson, Benson   Stephenson.  

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Bryant, Lyerly, GA; brothers, Burt Pendergrass, Billy Ray Stephenson, Thomas Leon Stephenson; sisters, Mary K. Womack, Peggy   Diane Glenn, Betty Jean Tomlin; grandchildren, Amy Diane Bryant, Jason Daniel Bryant, Kimberly Leann Bryant, Tyler Hamilton, Jo Ann Hamilton, and Kerra Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann officiating.  Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Stacey Womack, Steven Womack, Jackie Womack, Michael Rowlls, Junior Sewingfield, Stephen Prude, Bud Crabtree, and Glenn Womack.

Johnson Obituary

Mr. James "Jimmy" Flemming Johnson, loving brother, Dad, caring Uncle and devoted friend, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 in the Hutcheson Medical Center.

Jimmy, as he was known by most people, was born November 18, 1940, in Chattooga County, Georgia, the son of the late Lovett and Surlina Ryles Johnson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bruce and Mary Stamper Johnson and Louis and mary Ryles. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Bankston, and two brothers, Frank (Sonny) Johnson and Thomas (Billy) Johnson.

Jimmy attended the Chattooga County School system and worked most of his adult life for the Southern Railroad System, traveling all over the country. He loved sharing his travel adventures with his nephew, Undra, so he could seek the beauties and exciting parts of the cities in our country. Jimmy could best be remembered in the last ten years as a man that treasured the lawn work he provided for families in the community. He was blessed to have those who watched over him in his period of declining health and truly treasured them all.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister and caregiver, Hazel Finley, Mark Price, Edna Shropshire, Edward Sewell, Hellene Wooten, John Junior Adams, of Summerville; Mary B. Daniel of Rome; one brother, Rufus Franklin and Annie Mae Johnson; Secial nephew and caregiver, Theon Finley, summerville, and Undra Finley of Chattanooga; Special neices, Sharon and Niecy Wooten and Chelsea Bankston, Summerville, Markela Findley of Atlanta. He had three children, Eddie Farmer of Summerville, sheila and Gardell Johnson of Chickamauga; eight grandchildren; special friends, Brenda Burke, Deforest and Leon Scott, Cicero Rounsaville, Lee Edward Powell, all of Summerville and Shirley McConnell of Rome; other nieces, cousins, and a host of friends survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Friday, June 13, 2008, at 1:00 PM in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Loveless and other ministers officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Friday, June 13, 2008, from 11:30 AM until the service hour.

Fisher Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Virginia Fisher, age 77, of Trion, Georgia died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Fisher was born May 9, 1931 in Dalton, Georgia, the daughter of the late Japeth and Elizabeth Cook Pilcher. she was a homemaker and a member of the Lookout Hall Church of Christ. Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Clifford Fisher. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law Minister Ronald L. and Vickie Fisher, Summerville, and Corey Trent Fisher, Trion; brothers – Wilford Pilcher and Trammel Pilcher, both of Dalton; sister – Edra Nix, Dalton; 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008 at West Hill Cemetery, with Minister Doyle Partin officiating. Pallbearers will be Don Baker, Gary Duke, Ed Sitton, John Sharp, David Burnette, and Winford Burnette.

Mrs. Fisher will lie in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Salmon Obituary

Mrs. Sue McGraw Salmon, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Salmon was born on January 19, 1939 in Chattooga County, Georgia, the daughter of the late James Ollie "Cap" and Alma Roberta Nelson McGraw. She was a homemaker and a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church. Mrs. Salmon was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Goat" McGraw.

Survivors include her husband, R. L. Salmon; six children – a daughter, Linda Padgett Hooper; five sons and daughters-in-law – Sammy & Sharon Padgett, Summerville; George & Barbara Padgett, Calhoun; Ken Padgett, David Padgett, and Jimmy Padgett, all of Summerville; brothers – Cotton McGraw and John McGraw, both of Summerville; aunt – Louise Gladney, Summerville; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 13, 2008, at Four Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. David Peeler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Carter Woodall, Chris McGraw, Richard Rape, Phillip Trammell, Jonathan Chitwood, and Shawn Van Buren. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Adult Sunday School Class of Four Mile Baptist Church.

Caldwell Obit

Mr. Charlie Mavin Caldwell, age 86, of Sardis Church Road-Lyerly, GA. passed away Monday afternoon from injuries recieved in an auto accident near Lyerly in the Chattoogaville Community. A native of Trion, GA he was born to the late William Luther and Georgia Elizabeth Hawkins Caldwell on April 18, 1922. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the US Army and was retired from the spinning room of Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his wife the late Irene Mae Ellison Caldwell; daughters-Pamela Caldwell and Barbara Caldwell; son-Charles Leroy Caldwell; sister-Delcy Eveline Eaton;brother-William Luther Caldwell. Mr. Caldwells’s companion, Alice Faye Ivester, also passed away in the same accident.

Surviving are daughters-Linda Jones, Doris Tapp, and Rachael Kilgore all of Summerville; sons-George Caldwell of Summerville, Jerry Caldwell of Trion and Ray Caldwell of Summerville; sisters-Pauline Ash of LaFayette, Ruby Hall and Louella Snider of Summerville; serveral Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren. Great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survived.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. fromt he Freedom Fellowship of Roberts Street in summerville with Rev. Ken Westmoreland, Booby Brown and Kimmy Caldwell officiating, interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Active pallbearers-Grandsons; honorary pallbearers nephews and grandchildren.

Mr. Caldwell will be at the residence of a daughter Rachael Kilgore at 669 Orchard Hill Road in Summerville Wednesday and Thursday evening.

Mrs. Margaret Ann Williams, age 74, of Cedar Bluff, AL., passed away Friday June 6, 2008, at her residence. Mrs. Williams was born November 30, 1933, the daughter of Evelyn Baggett Lemming and the late Arvil Lemming. She was retired from the Big E in Centre, AL., where she worked in the Deli as a cook and cake baker, She also was employed with Riegel – Mt Vernon Mills for over 20 years. She was also preceded in death by a Daughter-in-law, Marlene Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Williams, Mother, Evelyn Lemming, Trion, GA., Sons and Daughters-in-law,Terry Williams, Gaylesville, AL., Gordon David and Nancy Williams, Watkinsville, GA., James Randall and Rhonda Williams, Trion, GA., Sister, Millie Hardin, Summerville, GA., Brother, James Lemming, Trion, GA., 7 Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday June 9, 2008, from the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center, with Rev. Mrs. Martha Rebecca Cooper, age 87, of 5th Street, Trion passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 in the LaFayette Health Care. Mrs. Cooper was born December 19, 1920 in Floyd Co. GA. She was retired from Caron Yarns, was also a housewife and a member of the East Trion Church of God. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Smith and by her second husband, Leonard Cooper; parents , William C. and Iowa Collins Childers; daughter, Annie Lee Smith; sisters, May Catherine Childers Mewburn, Anniebell Townsend, and Mary Whitely; brothers Joe Frank Childers and Grover Childers.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Gene and Johnny Brown of LaFayette; sister, Mildred Dunwoody of Summerville; niece Lovenia "Pidgie" McDaniel of Trion; Nephew, Riley Cooper of Lyerly; 3 grandchildren, Johnny Brown Jr, Barbara Holt, and Joesph Eugene Brown; 4 great grandchildren, Jessica Tasha, David and Kristen; 2 great-great grandchildren, Riley and Evan.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from the East Trion Church of God with Rev. Charles Izell, Rev Jack Sexton, and Rev Jim Chasteen officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.

Mrs. Cooper will lie-in-state Monday June 9, 2008 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will recieve friends from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Cooper will also lie-in-state at the East Trion Church of God from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Todd Holt, Robbie Osborn, Larry Osborn, Anthony Mitchell, and Matt Turnipseed. They are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 11:30 on Tuesday.
