Mrs. Carleen Woods Stowe, age 74 of Woods Road in Summerville passed away Friday at her residence.  Carleen was born April 24, 1934 in Chattooga County and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and was very active in the W.M.U., Awana, Primary Sunday School Class Teacher, Young at Heart, Choir and the HELP Team.

Carleen was preceded in death by her father and mother, Carl William Woods and Annie June Olive Woods. 

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Robert Eugene Stowe of Summerville, daughter and special friend, Brenda Thomas and Frank Johnston of Summerville; son and daughter in law, Richard and Elaine Stowe of Sumemrville; grandchildren, Jeff Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Heather Coley, Justin Stowe and Morgan Stowe; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday October 26 at 3 PM at the chapel of the Erwin- Pettitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM at the Funeral Home on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Morgan Stowe, Justin Stowe, Jeremy Thomas, Kenneth Stowe, Mike Woods, Gary Woods, Jeff Coley and Jeff Thomas.  Honorary pallbeareres will be the Grace S.S. Class of Dry Valley Baptist Church.  These are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 PM on Sunday.

Mr. Larry Keith Smith age 36 of James Street in Summerville, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon in a Rome hospital.  Born in Floyd County, Georgia on September 28, 1972 he was the son of the late Earlene Caheeley Smith and David Dan. Smith who survives.  Mr Smith was preceeded in death by two brothers the late David Ronald Smith and Steven Hefner.

Surving are sons Larry Keith Smith, Jr. and Douglas Kane Smith both of Chickamauga.  Father and Step Mother – David Dan and mary Ruth Smith of Summerville; sisters Nelda Lindsey of Summerville, Denise Ramey of Buena Vista, GA, Tina Heartson of Phenix City, AL., Jackqueline Bates manning , Linda Hathcock and Mary Wells of Summerville and Debbie Casey of Cedartown; brothers Danny Colbert of LaGrange, Kenneth Colbert of Whytesville, VA and Michael Colbert of Summerville, several neices, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services will be Friday at 1Pm from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Max Reed and Rev. Bill Wright officiating. interment in Johnson Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Joshua bates, Charles Hooker, lll ,Ryan Kirby, anthony hamby, Steven hamby, Adam Smith, Ediie SMith and Mike Wells, Visitation will be Thursday Fro 6 to 8 at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home…..

Mrs. Lillie Mack Pursley, age 99, of Trion, GA died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Mrs. Pursley was born May 13, 1909 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the late Mack and Lillie Hardwick.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. Pursley was the oldest member of the Trion First Presbyterian Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Pursley; daughter, Sybile Pursley Harris; 4 Brothers; and 4 Sisters. Survivors include a son-in-law, Rev. Tom Harris, Maryville, TN; grandson, Rev. Gilbert Harris, Kentucky, several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Harris and grandson, Rev. Mrs. Yvonne Barrett, 85 of Marsh Avenue Trion passed away Thursday in Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center..She Was born July 11th, 1923 in Greensboro, GA> and was retired from Reigel Textile Corp. and was a  member of Trion First Baptist Church..She was preceded in death by her husband Eldred Deforest Barrett, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.. She is survived by a son and daughter in law, Charles and Ann Barrett of Austell, Grandsons and wives, John and Sandra Barrett and Brian and Beth Barrett of Powder Springs, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2pm from the chapel of the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Warren Moorehead officiating interment in West Hill Cemetary.  She will lie in state Saturday at the Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1 to 2PM.  Pallbearers will be John,and Brian Barrett, Howard Shelton, Tip McCollum, Leo Lanier and Jesse Emory.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Ressie McCollum Circle of the Trion 1st Baptist Church, they are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 PM on Saturday.. Mr. John M. Carroll, age 73, of Lyerly, GA., passed away Sunday September 28, 2008, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.   Mr. Carroll was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Lowell, MA., the son of the late John T.  and Jean Bertha Andrysak Carroll.  Mr. Carroll was retired Sgt Major from the U.S. Army with 30 years of service.  He had over 24 different awards including army commendation medals, service medals, bronze stars, legion of merit awards, and others. He spent tours of duty in Germany, England,  Italy, Vietnam. He was Inaugural NCO for President Nixon?s Inauguration in  1969 and AG Sergeant at Ft McPherson. Mr. Carroll received several diplomas starting with Leo University FL., and the State University of New York, Albany, He spent his last 10 years as a substitute teacher with Chattooga and Walker Counties.  He was a former member of the Lyerly City Council, having served for five years. Survivors include his wife, Marion Carroll, daughters, Jennifer Carroll, Kennesaw, GA., Debbie Evans, Knaresborough, England, grandchildren, Natalie and Lynette Evans.  Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at  Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Mr. Robert Luke ?R.L.?
