Cook Obit

Mrs. Josephine Yvonne Cook, age 56, of Rome, GA foermerly of the Welcome Hill Community died Sunday May 4 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

Mrs. Cook was born May 30, 1951 in Stevenson, Alabama the daughter of Henry Thomas Arnold, Sr. and mamie Lee Hawkins Arnold.  She was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.  Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ennis Cook, Sr. and a brother, Henry T. Arnold, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Donald Ennis Cook, Jr., Kelly Yvonne Cook, and Flora Lee "Lori" Cook all of Rome, Georgia.  Sisters and brothers in law Jessie & John Ivey, Stevenson, Alabama, Anna & Billy Isom of Crossville, AL, Kathleen & Lamar Curvin of Gadsden, Alabama, Juanita & Jim Thornton of Lafayette, Georgia, Patsy & Dan Thorton of Lafayette, Georgia, Marilyn & Bobby Patterson of Summerville; brothers and sisters in law, Otho & Doris Arnold of Stevenson, Alabama, Leon Arnold of Tunnell Hill, Georgia, and Clara Trammell of Trion, Eugene and Joan Arnold of Armuchee, Georgia, James Rydo Arnold of Summerville; grandchildren, Erin Madison Tapp, Angel Kindle Jordan and several neices and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday May 6, 2008 at Mason Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Terry Shores officiating.  Interment will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Marty Cook, Chris Russell, Terry Dobson, Matt Thornton, Ray Thornton, Josh Tapp, Tony Bean and Scott Miller.  Honorary pallbears will be Roland Brown, Lloyd Parrish, Charlie Gann, Lamar Curvin, Billy Isom, Dan Thornton, Jim Thornton and Bobby Patterson.

Shaver Obit

Mr. Jerry Leon Shaver, age 63, of Summerville, GA died Friday, May 2, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Shaver was born March 30, 1945 in Trion, GA, the son of Violet Deering Shaver Haney and the late Paul Edward Shaver.  He was a member of the Pennville Alliance Church, the Chattooga Masonic Lodge #704, and the Chattooga Shrine Club.

Mr. Shaver is survived by his wife, Delaine "Dee" Tucker Shaver; mother, Violet Shaver Haney, brothers, Wayne Shaver and Bobby Shaver, Summerville, GA; sisters, Dorothy Simmons, Summerville, GA, and Mary Ruth Elicker, Lindale, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Monday, May 5, 2008 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Carlos Martines and Bro. Bill Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at the Pennville Alliance Church Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Tommy Tucker, Jeff Shaver, Raymond Jones, Brian Roberts, Vic Elicker, Danny Wilcox, Charles Black, and Gary Abernathy.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Heyman Hospice Staff and all members of the Encouragers Sunday School Class of Pennville Alliance Church.

 Mr. Shaver will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 P.M. Sunday May 4th.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society.

Mr. Doyal Ray Evans, age 60, of Calhoun, GA died Friday, May 02, 2008 at Redmond RegionalMedical Center.   Mr. Evans was born September 19, 1947 in Gordon County, GA, the son of Wilma Goodnight Evans and the late A. D. Evans.  He was retired from Carriage Carpet Mill and was a member of the Silver Hill Baptist Church.   Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Carol Elaine Ratliff Evans; children, Anthony "Tony" Evans, Timothy Evans, Michelle Evans, and Kristy Scott, all of Calhoun, GA; mother, Wilma Evans, Calhoun, GA; brothers, Winston Evans, Dwight Evans; sisters, Marilyn Callaway, Pamula Weaver, Sandy Evans, all of Calhoun, GA, Shirley Hamrick, Villanow, GA; grandchildren, Cierra Casey, Peyton Evans, Kara Evans, Kylie Bradshaw.   Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday May 5, 2008, from the Silver Hill Baptist Church with Rev. John Hayes and Rev. Barry Brown officiating.  Military Graveside rites will be conducted by members of Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard.   Active pallbearers will be Glenn Ellison, Scott Culberson, Gerald Culberson, David Ward, Michael Ratliff, and Matthew Freeman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Evans, B. Mrs. Celia Ann Autry, age 56, of Cloudland, GA died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Erlanger Medical Center.

Mrs. Autry was born August 5, 1951 in Walker County, GA, the daughter of the late Earl and Minnie Irene Edwards Shipman. She was the former owner and operator of the Family Grocery. Mrs. Autry was preceded in death by her husband, C. M. Autry.

Survivors include her daughters, Starla Schrader and Connie Autry, both of Cloudland, GA, Lisa Autry Hutchins, Summerville, GA; brother, Mack Shipman, Cloudland, GA; sisters, Joan Hawkins, Cloudland, GA, Teresa Burton, Atlanta, GA; and 6 Grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating. Pallbearers will be Nick Price, Gianni Shipman, Blake Pickard, Anthony Groce, Daniel Moses, Jimmy Rector, L. J. Hall, and Gary Holbrook.

Peggy Wallin Dover

Mrs. Peggy Wallin Dover, age 66 of McCollum Street, Trion, passed away Thursday, May 01, 2008 at her residence. She was born May 8, 1941 in Walker County, Georgia. She was retired from the Roper Corporation and was a Baptist by faith. Mrs. Dover was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. and Ann Shephard Wallin; twin sister and brother, Mary and Jerry Wallin.

In Peggy and Jimmy’s years together they have traveled to 49 states, several Canadian Provinces, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Germany, Italy, and the Bahamas. Peggy and her husband would have been married for 50 years on May 10, 2008 where a big celebration had already been demanded by Peggy.

Mrs. Dover is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Dover of Trion; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Waydell Howell of Trion; Patti and Steve Henderson, and Tammy and Dale Bates of Summerville; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua Howell, Adam and Kimberley Howell, Brandon and Breezy Henderson, Cassie and Tim Rutledge, Brett and Lacey Jackson, and Brittney Bates; 7 great-grandchildren, Stormy, Rainie, and Misti Henderson, Sterling and Keyra Rutledge, Kamen Lewis, and Brody Howell; aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Old Macedonia Cemetery.

Mrs. Dover will lie in state Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM. Pallbearers will be Joshua Howell, Adam Howell, Tim Rutledge, Brett Jackson, Danny Wallin, Randy Wallin, and Tony Wallin. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Pamper Me Salon and employees of Edward Jones & Co.

Mrs. Celia Ann Autry, age 57, or Cloudland, Georgia died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Erlanger Medical Center. Mrs. Ruth Jewell Housch, age 94 of Summerville, (Pennville Community), passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Housch was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on February 9, 1914, daughter of the late Charles Lumpis Whitley and Meredith Virginia Atkins Whitley.  She was a member of the Pennville First Baptist Church for over 50 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Housch, son, Charles Housch and a daughter, Jeanette Housch.  Mrs. Housch is survived by two grandsons, John Housch and Robert Housch; a granddaughter, Julie Bond and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mrs. Housch will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tanner and Rev. Wilburn Jarrett Obit

Mr. Wilburn Jarrett, age 63 of Summerville, passed away Sunday afternoon in a Chattanooga, TN hospital from injuries received in an auto accident on April 6th.  A native of Hall County, Georgia He was born to the late George and Ruth Buffington Jarrett on December 28, 1944.  Mar. Jarrett was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Summerville, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired farmer.  Preceding him in death a sister the late Sarolyn Jarrett and a brother Donald Jarrett. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Jason and Melissa Jarrett; granddaughter Bailey Kellett all of Summerville; sister Jimmie Murray of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law De Jaun and Joan Jarrett and Mike and Kathy Jarrett all of Summerville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev.
