Mr. Henry Davis Henderson, Obit

Mr. Henry Davis Henderson, age 80, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Sunday evening, December 10, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Henderson was born in Summerville, GA, on November 16, 1943, a son of the late Luther Davis Henderson and Delsie Bumgarner Henderson. Mr. Henderson lived his early years in Chattooga County before entering the United States military, having served in both the Navy and Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after 34 years of service as a Master Sergeant and was a member of the Brown-Wright Post 12 of the American Legion. Mr. Henderson was a self-employed general contractor and a member of the Cross View Community Church. He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and reading history books.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by wife, Angela Henderson.

Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Mildred Jackson Henderson, whom he married May 5, 2018; children, Anthony Henderson (Desni), Marsha Wagner (John), Melissa Smith Henderson, Ginger Norton (Grant), Missy Duncan (Chris), and Tiffany Rose (Brian); brothers, David Patterson (Shelia), Rick Hicks (Tammy), Robert Helton; sisters, Ruby Hawkins, Betty Mahaffey, Charlotte Hawkins (James), Darlene Bearden (Tony), Jimmie Woodard, Patricia Bailey. Eighteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also survives.

Graveside and interment services for Mr. Henderson will be Saturday afternoon, December 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Danny Echols officiating. The Honor Guard from Brown-Wright Post 12 American Legion will confer military rites.

Mr. Henderson’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Saturday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will include Rick Hicks, Will Duncan, Grant Norton, Chris Duncan, Jesse Wagner, and Ivan Smith.

James “Rido” Arnold, Obit (M)

Mr. James “Rido” Arnold age 71 of Summerville, GA passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 11, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Rido was born August 6, 1952 in Trion, GA to the late Henry and Mamie Hawkins Arnold. He was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and was a self employed automobile transporter. He loved cars, car shows, the Georgia Bulldogs, and fellowshipping with his family and friends.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Jessie Ivey, Anna Isom, Patsy Thornton, Josephine Cook, Leon Arnold, Otho Arnold, Henry Arnold, Jr, and Eugene Arnold.

Survivors include his children, Jamey (Danielle) Arnold, and Sherri (Ray) Jones; sisters, Kathleen (Lamar) Curvin, Marilyn (Bobby) Patterson, and Juanita (Jim) Thornton; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Arnold will take place at 2:00 PM Friday, December 15 at Mason Funeral Home with Dr. Sammy Barrett, Rev. Chris Nixon, and Rev. Tracey Espy officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Josh Tapp, Matt Thornton, Ladon Lively, Rocky Hatfield, Billy Joe Dooley, Terry Dobson, Josh Jones, and Matt Jones serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Bowman, Jamie Walker, Eddie “Flash” Ballenger, Larry Dale Dooley, Tim Hegwood, Harvey Fitzgerald, Boo Hammond, Deanna Evett, and all of his friends at the McGinnis Highrise Apartments.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Funeral Home.

Margaret Sosebee Westbrook, Obit (C)

Mrs. Margaret Sosebee Westbrook, age 95 of Trion, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Westbrook was born in Trion, Georgia on January 20, 1928, to the late Reuben Sosebee and Rebecca Witt Sosebee. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was a faithful member. She was retired from Imperial Cup in Lafayette, Georgia. Mrs. Westbrook was preceded in death by a husband, Tommy McWilliams; brothers, Alfred Sosebee, Lonnie Sosebee and Carl Sosebee; sisters, Fannie Brown, Mary Ruth Harris, Ann Williams, Nell Durham, Ruby Black and Lois Edwards; she was also preceded in death by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Westbrook is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Hoover of Smyrna, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tonya and Dave Ingram, Jonathan King and Samantha Hoover all from Tennessee; three great grandchildren; brother, Bill and Mary Ruth Sosebee; sister, Betty Wilson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Westbrook will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Brannon Martin and Rev. Wade Sosebee officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Trent Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Gene Martin and Brent Martin.

MR. DONALD VERNON HOLT, age 86, of Jenkins Gap Road, Summerville, Georgia, Gore Community, passed away Sunday morning at his residence, following an illness. A native of Gore, Mr. Holt was born to the late James Thomas and Della Mae Allen Holt, on October 16, 1937; He was Baptist by Faith, a Farmer, and also worked in the carpet industry. In addition to Parents, He is preceded in death by a sister, the late Shirley Mae Maxey and brother and sister-in-law, the late James T. & Frances Maxey Holt.

Surviving are sister, Bobbie Jones; and great nephew, Landon Taylor; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. David Holt and Pastor Greg Montgomery officiating, interment in Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery. Mr. Eugene Forrest Ellenburg, age 80, of Trion, GA, died Saturday, December 9, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Ellenburg was born August 5, 1943, son of the late Robert Cleveland and Verdie Forrest Ellenburg. He was a member of Teloga Baptist Church and was a retired mechanic where he owned and operated Ellenburg’s Garage.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ellenburg; and second wife, Peggy Sue Ellenburg.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Eugene (Judy) Ellenburg, Jeffrey Ellenburg; special friend, Brenda Gilmer; grandchildren, Beth Blackwell, Trina Elliott, Trent Hall, Allen Ellenburg, Nic Ellenburg, Connor Ellenburg, and Jaxon Ellenburg; great-grandchildren, Austin Byers, Jake Byers, Haley Byers, Caleb Blackwell, Ezra Ellenburg, Barrett Ellenburg, and Wyatt Ellenburg.

Charles Edward “Big Willie” Johnson, Sr., Obit (C)

Mr. Charles Edward “Big Willie” Johnson, Sr. , age 87 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Mr. Johnson was born in Summerville, Georgia on April 28, 1936, son of the late William Franklin Johnson, Sr. and Mable Willingham Johnson. He was a member of the Pennville First Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of Willie’s Plumbing and Backhoe Service. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He attained rank as Sargent and was a driver for the General. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was an avid Georgia Tech Fan, and even liked the Georgia Bulldogs as long as they weren’t playing Tech, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn McWhorter; and two brothers, Joe Johnson and Ronald Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue Johnson; daughter, Kim Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Little Willie” and Eva Johnson, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, William and Joyce Johnson; sister-in-law, Sylvia Johnson; special friends, Billy Willingham, Judy Edgeworth and Bily Joe Duham; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mr. Johnson will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Colbert officiating.

Master Asher Chase Carroll, 5 week old son of Brooklyn Thrasher and Chase Carroll, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 in a Chattanooga Hospital.

Asher was born in Rome, Georgia on October 31, 2023. Ernest Douglas “Ernie” Ragland, Obit (M)

Mr. Ernest Douglas “Ernie” Ragland, age 82, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Ragland was born October 24, 1941, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Roy Howard Ragland and Vonnie Ruth Abernathy Ragland. He was of the Baptist faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Reichold Chemical.

In his younger days, he loved hunting and the outdoors. He was an amazing cook and looked forward to his annual October stew cooking with his family and friends. Mr. Ragland enjoyed nothing more than small gatherings and company stopping by for jokes and conversation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dennis Ragland and William “Poot” Ragland; and his soulmate and partner of 25 years, Rita Fay Campbell.

Survivors include his son, Randy (Rachel) Ragland; daughter, Ginger (Guy) McCarty; honorary daughter, Kelli Broome; sister, Patricia (Jack) Rich; and 9 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be planned by the family at a later date at Johnson Cemetery.

Mrs. Alisa Kaye Wesson, age 60 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Wesson was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 21, 1963, daughter of Charlotte Brown and the late Robert Kelley. She loved gymnastics in her younger years. Mrs. Wesson enjoyed fishing, going to the mountains, rescuing animals, and painting nails.

Mrs. Wesson is survived by her daughters, Kristin Niecole White and Ashley Mashae Glenn; mother, Charlotte Brown; son-in-law, Matthew Davis; grandchildren, Nathen Dover, Shanen Croft, Haven Barnes, Madison White, Colby Glenn, Shauna Glenn, Gracyn Blaine and Braylee Myers; Special Friends, Fondren Wright and Ann Clark.

Vernon Mills and was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Williams was a former Avon Representative and enjoyed shopping. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Julian “Cat” Williams; sister, Faye Williams; and two brothers, Frankie Watkins and Edward “Buddy” Watkins.
