MRS. LUDAIN PRUITT GILREATH, age 83 of Teloga Community passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 in a Chattanooga Hospital. Mrs. Gilreath was born, September 24, 1939, in Fort Payne, Alabama to the late General Filmore Pruitt and Gladys Cavin Pruitt. She was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church and was retired from Roper Corporation. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Deforrest Gilreath, brothers, General Leon Pruitt, Hubert “Sam” Pruitt, and sister, Eloise Pruitt Magnusson.

Surviving are, daughters, Becky (Donnie) Gerrin and Sherri (Richard) Selby; sons, Calvin (Rachel) Gilreath and Jerry Gilreath; granddaughters, Lisa Gilreath, Lacey Gilreath, Michelle Pollard Causey, Emily (Michael) Kobito, and Grace Gilreath; grandson, Justin Pollard (Dana); great grandchildren, Ansley Causey, Caden Causey, Brooklyn Causey, and Mack Pollard; great great grandchild, Maisley Causey; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Avans officiating. Interment in the Family Plot of Macedonia Cemetery, Teloga Community.

Pallbearers are Richard Selby, Michael Kobito, Caden Causey, Justin Pollard, Dale Selby, and Kevin Godfrey.

Mrs. Johna Lynette Burrage, age 63 of Cloudland, GA passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at a Rome, GA hospital.

Mrs. Burrage was born January 19, 1960 in Lafayette, GA to the late John Hogue and Frances Wofford Gilreath. She was retired from Circle K and enjoyed playing guitar, painting, and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Burrage; daughters, Quisha Leonard and Stephanie Webb; step-daughter, Felisha Freeman; Siblings, Sean Hogue, Shane (Ava) Hogue, Bradley Hogue, Carol Maloney, Celenia Kirby, Brandy Selfors, and Marlinda (Joe) Brown; grandchildren, Emma Weathers, Natalie Leonard, Nathanial Leonard, Chase Freeman, and Alyssa Freeman; and great-grandchild, Daniel Weathers.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Burrage will take place at 11:00 Am Wednesday, July 26 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Odem officiating. Interment will follow at AMI cemetery with Andy Burrage, John Woffard, Johnny Snow, Mike Crooks, Willis Gallaway, Chase Freeman, Johnny Kirby, and Jacob Kirby serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Glenda Faye Williams, age 80 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Williams was born in Trion, Georgia on June 26, 1943, daughter of the late Ralph McKinley Watkins and Jewell Pack Watkins. She was retired from Restaurant Enterprises and was of the Baptist Faith. She was an accomplished golfer, loved flowers and loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her family, Mrs.

Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee “Buddy” Williams, Jr.; and brothers, Edward “Buddy” Watkins and Frankie Watkins.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a daughter, Sheila Ann Day; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Pam Williams and Ronnie and Beth Williams; sisters and brother-in-law, Maggie Tucker, Betty Williams, Joyce and Alvin Grogan and Shirley Ratliff; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Diane Watkins, Paul and Bobbie Watkins, Ray and Linda Watkins, Cecil Watkins and Sherman Watkins; sister-in-law, Linda Griggs; grandchildren, Corey Day, Casey Day, Leann Willingham and Joe Williams; 7 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Helen Kay Sharp Conaway, age 82, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Conaway was born March 29, 1941, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James M. and Ollie Elizabeth Aaron Sharp. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, had been employed with Wire Tech. She loved spending time with her family, being a caregiver and working in the garden. She was also a big time fan and loved watching wrestling events.

Helen was most devoted to her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was the life of the party at family get-togethers. She was dearly loved by all her nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Conaway was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Conaway; sisters, JoAnn Adams, Jeanette Penrod, and Imma Jean Sharp.

Survivors include her sisters, Doris E. Smith, Josie V. Ramey, and Lillie Dale.

Mrs. Ruby Mae Petitt, age 95 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Ruby was born in Clay County, Alabama on June 3, 1928, daughter of the late James Thomas Dixson and Ivy Nonie Denny Dixson. She and her husband, Durward Leon Petitt owned and operated the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home from 1969, until his death in November of 2012. Mrs. Ruby loved spending time being with and telling her kids, grandkids and great grandchildren stories; working in her yard, taking care of her flowers, cooking and crocheting. She was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ruby was preceded by her husband, Durward Leon Petitt on November 16, 2012 and two daughters, Sandra Sue Petitt and Rhonda Petitt Wells.

Mrs. Ruby is survived by a son, Dana Leon Petitt; daughter, Renia Petitt Miller; son-in-law, Larry Wells; sisters, Lavada Dean, Nadine Bailey Moore, Barbara Dixson and Jeanette Pope; brother, Jimmy Dale Dixson; grandchildren, Yvette and Jason Houck, Jeff Richardson, Anthony Richardson, Julie Petitt, Travis Petitt, Daera Rankin, Natasha and Ricky Dover, Chad and Erica Miller; great grandchildren, Lexie Dover, Bentley Dover, Cooper Miller, Pryce Houck, Gradon Houck, Cassey Wells, Tyler Eliam and Nick Eliam; and a number of nieces, nephews and additional family members.

Gary Wallace McConnell, Obit (ER)

MR. GARY WALLACE MCCONNELL, age 78, a life long resident of Chattooga County, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023, in a Rome hospital. He was the Son of the late John Frank McConnell and Margueritt Rea McConnell. Gary started his career in law enforcement working with his father, then Sheriff of Chattooga County. At the age of 21, while attending Mississippi State University, Gary’s Father died while serving as Sheriff and Gary took over the Sheriff’s position; he was the youngest sheriff in Georgia history. He was Sheriff of Chattooga County for 20 years and in 1991 was appointed Head of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, GEMA, and was Head of the Georgia Olympic Law Enforcement Command. After retirement went He into private emergency management, where he helped other states with their emergency management agencies and emergencies.

Surviving are His wife, Lyndell Diane McConnell; daughter and companion, Rebecca Rea and Fox Carrasquillo; and grandson, Levi Cobb.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. J. Wesley Privett and Rev. Mike Cavin officiating, interment in Macedonia Cemetery. Mrs. Janet Elaine Tanner, age 71 of Trion, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 8, 2023 in Ft. Payne, Alabama.

Mrs. Tanner was born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 19, 1952 daughter of the late Leroy Dwight McCluggage and Esther Elizabeth Carlson McCluggage. She was a member of the Pennville Community Church and was retired from Walmart, where she worked as a Customer Service Manager. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Duck” Tanner and a daughter, Joleane McCutchins.

Mrs. Tanner is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deneale and James Elrod; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Larry Cone; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Joan McCluggage; grandchildren, Jazmin Gray, Shelby McCutchins, Tia Davis, Shari McDaniels, Tanner Elrod and Nathan Elrod; great grandchild, Jaxston Blanks; special friends, Conrad Trautner, Gina Trautner and Marty Trautner; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Gail Wike Dooley, Obit (C)

Mrs. Gail Wike Dooley, surrounded by loving family, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 6, 2023, in her home at Clairmont Lake in Decatur, GA.

Mrs. Dooley, the daughter of the late Manuel Wike and Bonnie (Bryant) Wike, was born on November 21, 1934, in Trion, GA. She enjoyed a happy childhood as the youngest of six girls. Mrs. Dooley attended Trion High School where she found her love for music as a school song leader and member of the Glee Club and Pep Club. While at Trion High School, she began dating Boyce Dooley which led to a deep love and plans for marriage following his Marine service during the Korean War. While Boyce was in Korea, Gail moved to Chattanooga, TN, and worked in an office. Upon Boyce’s return from the war, they were married in Trion in January 1956. The young couple moved to Atlanta as Boyce pursued his college education at Georgia Tech. While there, they began their family with the birth of their son, David Boyce Dooley, and a year and a half later, their daughter, Denise Gail Dooley. Upon Boyce’s graduation, Gail focused on turning houses into loving homes as Boyce’s career took them to places like Pensacola, FL, Birmingham, AL, Huntsville, AL, and Phoenix, AZ. When Boyce decided to bring cable TV to Chattooga County, the family moved back to Trion.

Besides caring for her family, Gail ran the office of the Clear-VU Cable company, was a faithful member of the Trion United Methodist Church choir, Chattooga County Garden Club, and local bridge clubs. After retirement, Gail and Boyce embarked on years of travel with the Georgia Tech Alumni Association and other travel clubs. However, her greatest loves were spending time with family, sailing trips aboard their sailboat, Gazebo, and watching sunsets over the water at Pensacola Beach and Weiss Lake. In her later years, Gail and Boyce moved to Decatur, GA to be near family. Here she became the unofficial social director of their independent living community, organizing evening social hours, becoming a competitive BINGO player, much sought after bridge partner, and community choir member. Gail was a gracious lady known for her quick smile, sharp wit, and welcoming spirit. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Scoggins; her son, David Dooley and his wife, Coreen; her daughter, Denise Rowland and her husband, Harry; her grandchildren, Rachel Tillman Peaden (Jon); Bonnie Grace Tillman; her step-grandchildren, Melissa Rowland and Harry Rowland III; her great-grandchildren, Ella Peaden and Emma Peaden; loving nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Mrs. Dooley was preceded in death by her husband Boyce Dooley, four sisters, son-in-law Gary Tillman, and granddaughter Hannah Gail Tillman.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday July 11, 2023, at Trion United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Peace was born in Trion, Georgia on January 27, 1935, daughter of the late Carl Gene Newsome and Edith Beatrice Glenn Newsome. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church. She loved to cook, work puzzles, watch Wheel of Fortune and tend to her flowers.
