MRS. FREDA LYNNE GEETER WATKINS – Age 71, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 2, 2023. She was born February 25, 1952 to the late Bro. Fred and Sis. Euna Belle Rhyne Geeter. She was preceded by he husband, James DeVoughn Watkins, brothers, Benjamin Joseph Geeter, Fred Ralph Geeter, Sr., and Cleo Jeremiah Geeter. She was an employee at the Chattooga County Public School System. She was a faithful member of the West Fifth Street Church of Christ until her death.

Survivors are her two loving daughters, Nicole (Kent) Perry and Janna (Christopher) Moore; granddaughters, Santeria Watkins and Imani Wyatt; great grandchildren, Jaliya Wilson, Zaylen Wilson, and Brelynne Wilson; brother, John Geeter; very special friend / neighbor, Tracy Perry; a host of other relatives, friends, and the West Fifth Street Church of Christ Church family.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 1:00 P. M. at the West Fifth Street Church of Christ, Summerville, Georgia with Brother John Lewis as Eulogist. Larry McCullough, Obit (M)

Mr. Larry Thomas McCullough, Sr., age 76, of Gaylesville, AL, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. McCullough was born February 8, 1947, in Jamestown, AL, son of the late Elbert Columbus McCullough and Ruby Jewell Ray McCullough. He was a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church and was the owner of Larry McCullough Logging. Mr. McCullough loved dirt track racing and working at his logging company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Junior McCullough and Charles McCullough.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Bishop McCullough; sons, Larry Wayne (Melissa) McCullough, Elbert (Amy) McCullough, Lance (Terri) McCullough; his children from a previous marriage,

Tommy McCullough, Teresa Sipsy, Timmy McCullough, Tabitha Atkins; brothers, Bill (Linda) McCullough, Vester McCullough; 7 grandchildren; 7 grandchildren from a previous marriage; great-grandchildren, Bennett McCullough , Knox Abernathy, as well as several other great-grandchildren from a previous marriage.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. (GA Time) on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Chesterfield Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Bishop, Dr. Charles Bishop, and Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Weiss Lake Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Austin McCullough, Colin McCullough, Steven Kimmons, Bobby McCullough, Chris Burleson, and Michael Bevels. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Farrar and the members of Chesterfield Baptist Church.

Mr. McCullough will be in state at Chesterfield Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. (GA Time) until the service hour on Sunday.

Mr. Michael Wayne Putnam, age 58, of Trion, GA, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Putnam was born February 2, 1965, in Chattanooga, TN, son of the late Perry and Betty Davis Putnam. He was a member of Trion First Baptist Church and was employed with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Layman Putnam; step-children, Mitch Blackmon, Dylan Hatcher, and Lexi (Steven) Fountain; grandchildren, Autumn Fountain, Addison Fountain, and Brayden Stoker.

Mr. Charles Edward Winters, age 93, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, July 4, 2023, peacefully at his residence.

Mr. Winters was born February 15, 1930, in Polk County, GA, son of the late Elmer Ervin Winters and Jessie Mae Fincher Winters. He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed 50 years with Mohawk Industries.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois McCary Winters; children, Sheila Winters, Terry Winters; brothers, Grady Winters, W.A. Winters, Raymond Winters; sisters, Evie Lee Holt, Mamie Carroll, Mary Studdard, and Sarah Duckett.

Survivors include his son, Tim (Kelli) Winters; sisters, Hattie Dentmon, Marie Broyles; sister-in-law, Faye Winters; step-children, Wayne (Jane) Morgan, David Morgan, Vickie Morgan (William) Hughes; grandchildren, Dennis (Jennifer) Winters, Dale (Mauri) Winters, Crystal (Mark) Nixon; step-grandchild, Kyle (Amanda) Hughes; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Betty Phillips Chreitzberg, Obit (M)

Mrs. Betty Phillips Chreitzberg, age 88 of Rome, GA formerly of Easley, SC, passed away June 29, 2023, at a Rome healthcare facility.

Mrs. Chreitzberg was born August 30, 1934 in Greenville, SC to the late George and Mary Brown Phillips. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Easley, SC where over the years she served the Lord mentoring young children and women. She was past President of the Women’s Club in Pelzer, SC, and was a loving homemaker blessed to stay at home and raise her children to love the Lord. Her hope is now reality; her faith is now sight.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Chreitzberg, Jr; daughter, Julia Ann Chreitzberg; and her son, Benjamin “Ben” Chreitzberg, III.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Chreitzberg (Dennis) Bryant; brother, George S. (Priscilla) Phillips; grandchildren, Virginia Nell Bryant, Alex Norman Bryant, Kathleen Sloan Chreitzberg (Ty) Crippen, and Benjamin Kilgore “Tyler” Chreitzberg, IV; and great-grandchildren, Hinley, Aria, and Isla.

Graveside and interment services to honor the life of Mrs. Chreitzberg will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Pastor Jared Pickard officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex Bryant, John Bryant, Casey Woodrum, and Dennis Bryant.

MS. WENDY ANN SIFFLES, age 56, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, in a Rome hospital. She was born in Oneonta, Alabama on December 27, 1966 to the late Mary Alice Siffles and Donald Jack Siffles, Sr. who survives. Ms. Siffles was a homemaker. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, the late Tony Dewayne Eller.

Surviving are daughter, Stacy Ann Eller; father, Donald Jack Siffles, Sr.; and brother, Donald Jack Siffles, Jr.

Mrs. Angela Yvonne Painter, age 52 of Lafayette, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 in a Chattanooga Hospital.

Yvonne was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia on May 25, 1971, daughter of Jesse Gravitt and Cheryl Ingram Gravitt. She was an avid Star Wars Fan, enjoyed collecting gnomes, loved to paint and make crafts. Yvonne was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wayne Painter.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Jeff Painter; daughters, Katherine Hope Cantrell and Angela Nicole Starr; parents, Jesse and Cheryl Gravitt; brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Melissa Gravitt; sister and brother-in-law, Cecil and Preston Dennell; grandchildren, Jesse Lindsey, Ender Starr, Zoe Shrader, Harmony Cantrell and Lyric Cantrell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Yvonne will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Addison officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooten Cemetery.

He was retired from Roper Corporation as a Forklift Operator and a member of New Generation ChristianChurch.

Mrs. Charlene Sumner Scoggins, age 88 of Summerville, (Subligna), passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at a Rome Hospital.

Mrs. Scoggins was born in Trion, Georgia on March 3, 1935, daughter of the late Carl Sumner Sr. and Eva Lema Jones Sumner. She was a member of the Sublilgna Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with the Chattooga County School System. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, making crafts, gardening and looking after her family. In addition to her parents,

Mrs. Scoggins was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice “Curly” Scoggins; sons, Larry Don Crider and Michael Eugene Crider; sisters, Virginia “Jenny” Copeland, Eloise Parker, JoAnn Crider, and Peggy Sue Ellendburg; and brothers, Elmer Eugene Sumner, Harold “Pete” Sumner and Carl “Bud” Sumner.

Mrs. Scoggins is survived by a son, Tim Crider; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Ralph and Opal Sumner; grandchildren, Cassie (Marcus) Broom, Casey (Christy) Crider and Devlin Crider; 10 great grandchildren; special niece Kelli and Lee Marramore; and a number of additional nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Loretta Worsham Hayes, age 83, of Colbert, GA (formerly of Summerville, GA), died Monday, June 26, 2023, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Hayes was born November 3, 1939, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Everett and Veda Watkins Worsham. She was a graduate of the Trion High School Class of 1957. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Hartford Carpet Mills. She loved church, traveling, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley F. Loard; second husband, Gerald Hayes; and several brothers and sisters.  Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Loard, Kathy (Geoff) Rice; a brother, Edsel (Peggy) Worsham; and granddaughter, Emily Rice.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
