Miss Emmiana Marie Dearden Cheshire, age 18 of Summerville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 26, 2023 in Crystal River, Florida.

Emmiana was born in Rome, Georgia on June 7, 2005, daughter of Lee Petitt and Kristi M. Cheshire. She was a student of the Mountain Education Charter High School, and was interested in working towards becoming active in Children’s Advocacy Programs. Emmiana was a very talented and free spirited individual that could do anything she set her mind to do. Among her interests, she loved to draw, make jewelry, and take pictures. Emmiana was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sharon and Bill Cheshire.

Emmianna is survived by her father, Lee Petitt; mother, Kristi Cheshire; sisters, Macy Petitt and Sara Grace Strawn; brothers, Waylon Strawn and Kamden Parish; special friend, Andrea Croft; grandmother, Lisa Bryant; grandfather, Chris Petitt and a special “grandmother”, Ann Strawn.

Funeral Services for Emmiana will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in the Petitt Chapel with Rev. Micah Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow in the Perennial Springs Cemetery.

Emmiana will be in state the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

James “Jimmy” Gilreath, Obit (WW)

James “Jimmy” Gilreath, age 74, of Cloud land, GA, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Mary Lou Gilreath.  Jimmy was a member of Old Way Baptist Church in Trion. He was a proud Army veteran of Vietnam and a Purple Heart recipient.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Faye Mitchell Gilreath; sons, David MitchellGilreath, Wade (Cindy) Gilreath, and Paul Mitchell Gilreath; grandchildren, Emily Hopkins,
Savannah, Dalton, Dylan, and Breanna Gilreath, and Krystina Mouah; great granddaughter, EllieKetterer; sister, Patsy Westmoreland; brothers, Johnny Gilreath and Jack Ware; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, at Old Way Baptist Church with Pastor David Thompson officiating.  Interment will be held at the LaFayette City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Joel Bowman, Michael Bowman, Jack Mitchell Jr., Shelby Dennison, Cody Dennison, Joe Cauthen, and Chris Wallace.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

Billy Leon Edwards, Obit (ER)

Mr. Billy Leon Edwards, age 80, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 peacefully at his home. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on February 5, 1943 to the late Duke Hamilton (Water Bill) Edwards and Ella Mae Padgett Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded two Bronze Star medals for meritorious service during conflict. He retired from ITT Automotive in Rome, Georgia where he worked for over 25 years; in addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a brother the late Johnny Edwards.

Mr. Edwards was a devoted Christian who enjoyed reading his Bible and talking to others about his faith. As a Christ follower he believed that loving God, loving others, and loving his family were keys to an abundant life. He often gave his time, talents, and resources to help others in times of need. He was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon. He sang in the church choir and enjoyed driving the church van and helping with the Awana program. He was a proud member of the Gideons International where one of his favorite ways to serve the Lord was passing out Gideon Bibles in schools and prisons. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting for deals at Trade Day, and spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Mr. Edwards always had a bright smile and a kind word for everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Willingham Edwards and his children, daughter Jennifer Edwards; son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Angie Edwards; and daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Ben Housch; grandchildren Ella Claire Nicholson, Emmie Chambless, Reagan Edwards, Abigail Edwards, Josie Edwards, Noah Edwards, Mary Anna Bentley, Henry Housch and Lottie Housch; a brother and sister in law the late Johnny and Lynda Edwards, sister Dianne Gilliland, sister and brother-inlaw- Mary Frances and Richard White, sister Cindy Finster, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dewey and Martha Hughes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 181 at 6:00 P. M. From South Summerville Baptist Church, with Dr. Gene Greer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 6 pm at the church.

Mrs. Evelyn Lucille Young, age 90, of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in Oakview Nursing & Rehab. Mrs. Young was born September 9, 1932, daughter of the late Pruitt Obediah and Mable Spencer Worsham Broome. She worked as a Bank Officer for Regions Bank and was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Joe Charles Young, Sr., a son, the late Joe Charles Young, Jr., and sister, the late Mary Frances Nicholson.

Surviving are her son, Randall (Beverly) Young; grandsons, Travis Young, Charles (Brittany) Young, Keith (Brandie) Young, Chance (Amber) Young, Luke (Tracey) Young, and Chesley Young; granddaughter, Joyanna (Andrew) Porterfield; daughter in law, Janice Young Espy; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2023 at 3 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Ray Brooks, Obit (C)

Mr. Charles Ray Brooks, age 76 of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Brooks was born in Lafayette, GA on September 19, 1946, son of the late Ed Brooks and Julie Mae Barnett Hill Townsend. He attended the Faith Temple Holiness Church and was retired from Best Manufacturing. He loved tinkering with his cars and enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his stepfather, Olin Hill; a daughter and a companion.

Mr. Brooks is survived by a son, Danny Ray Brooks; step-son, Richard “Bubba” Gill; sisters, Lora Hill, Mary Craig and Shirley Craig (Darwin Blansit); brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Susan Hill; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Brooks will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Edward Craig, Joseph Cochran, Stephen Craig, Matthew Humphrey, Richard “Bubba” Gill and Dakota Dodd. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Thelma Louise Casey age 98 of Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Casey was born December 28, 1924 in Centre, AL to the late Edward and Flossie Hawthorne Ray. She was a member of Summerville First Baptist church and enjoyed crocheting and working in her beautiful yard. She was retired from Georgia Rug Mill.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Ditman Casey along with several siblings.
Survivors include her son D. Ray Casey; grandson, E. Ray Casey; and several wonderful friends.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Casey will take place at 2:00 PM Monday, June 19 at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Dr. Charles Bishop and Gary Floyd officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are requested to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 PM Monday.

Eddie Henderson, Obit (ER)

Mr. Eddie Henderson, age 66 of Summerville passed away Wednesday evening June 14, 2023 in a Rome, Georgia Hospital. He was born February 22, 1957 in Lafayette, Georgia, son of the late William Edward and Sara Jane Barnette Henderson. Mr. Henderson was employed with the City of Summerville Fire Department for 25 years and a member of Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, the late Donnie Henderson.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Henderson; daughters, Shannon (Terry) Cook, Melissa Henderson ( J.J. Owens), Fayla (James) Abernathy; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Lori Henderson and Marilyn Silvers; several nieces and nephews; special friend Fluffy.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. from the J.D. Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Miss Addie Pauline Loggins, age 95, of Cartersville, GA, (formerly of Trion), died Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Highlands Senior Living.

Miss Loggins was born June 2, 1928, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late William F. and Ola L. Littlejohn Loggins. She enjoyed playing games, crafting, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Miss Loggins was preceded in death by sisters, Mable Beatrice Loggins Maxwell, Mary Irene Loggins Lancaster, Dorothy Lee Loggins Griffith, Bonnie Ruth Loggins; brothers, William Herman Loggins, Joseph Oscar Loggins, and Charles Howard Loggins.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Miss Loggins will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Wednesday.

MR. VAN PULLEN, age 75, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Native to Summerville, Georgia, He was born to the late Jodie Andrew and Sera Adams Pullen, on February 18, 1948. He was a retired manager for Bigelow-Sanford Mill and a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Laura Allison Pullen.

Surviving are His wife, Phyllis Sherman Pullen; daughter, Andrea Pullen Ingram; grandchildren, Drew Pullen, Wil Ingram, and Allie Ingram; brother, Joe Tilden Pullen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Horizon Baptist Fellowship, with Pastor John Paul Harris officiating, interment in the Family plot of Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Dorothy Maxwell Green, age 80 of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Green was born in Centre, Alabama on June 11, 1943, daughter of the late Jimmy Davis and Inez McKerly Weaver. Known as the “Jewelry Lady”, she enjoyed making jewelry, decorating, crafting and cleaning. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Green was preceded in death by a son, Tony Michael Stephens; a sister, Johnnie Sue Davis and a brother, Ronnie Davis.

Mrs. Green is survived by two sons, Tracy Stephens and Mark Stephens; two daughters, Cauprice Jones and Stacy Walker; sister-in-law, Penny Stephens; grandchildren, Jennifer Hurley, Lance Walker, Jessica Jones, Brett Stephens, Brittany Stephens Bone and Tesla Underwood; 12 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Green will be cremated and there are no formal plans for a memorial service at this time.
