Henry Lee Covington, Obit (M)

Mr. Henry Lee Covington, age 77, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, June 12, 2023, at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr. Covington was born January 25, 1946, in Menlo, GA, son of the late Will Henry and Delia Hudgins Covington. He was employed with Menlo School for 37 years where he currently served as the head custodian. He was the smiling face that greeted each and every child that came through the doors at Menlo.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Covington was preceded in death by his brothers, Will Covington, Jr., Lee Mosteller, John Calvin Hudgins, Jeff Franklin Covington; sisters, Annie B. Coleman, Pauleen Evans, and Mary Perry; and special family members, Neil Bowman, Sr. and Alice Bowman.

Survivors include his brother, George W. Covington; special family members, Shanne (Yogi) Hegwood, Donna (Greg) Koonce; grandchildren, Nicole (Dustin) Rosser, Corey Dyer, Gabby Dyer, Nathan (Halle) Hegwood, Natalie (David) Fletcher, Billy (Grace) Hegwood, Matthew (Selena) Martin, Tripp Marks, and Tori Wyatt; special great-grandchildren, Lily Grace Green, Jeremiah Dyer, Zion Morrison, Jordan Morrison, Freya Rosser, Isaiah Dyer, Callie Fletcher, Evan Fletcher, Scarlette Hegwood, Charlie Hegwood, Tripp Parra; as well as all of the special kids that ever attended or currently attend Menlo School and all of the Menlo School employees.

Funeral services for Mr. Covington will be held at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, June 15, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jake Morrison and Rev. Jason Lee officiating.

Mr. Covington will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.

Annie Mae Price Scott, Obit (W)

MRS. ANNIE MAE PRICE SCOTT – AGE 79, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 with her family at her bedside. She was born on December 23, 1943 in Cedar Bluff, Alabama to her late parents, Alfred and Edith Mae Moore Price. She was retired from Roper Industry over ten years. Mrs. Scott was preceded by her sisters, Brenda Lawrence, Carolyn Teresa Covington, Jeir Gail Price, nephew, Kelly Lawrence.

Survivors are her loving children, Penny (George) Williams of Madison, Alabama, Kirk (Wendy) Jackson of Byron, Georgia, Wendy Scott (Tracy Adams), Gabriel Scott (Fabian Whipple) of Summerville, Georgia; grandchildren, Irish Coats, Premis Rainwater, Dontaveius Jett, Sasha Scott, Treasvelle Jackson, Titus Jackson, and Kynnedy Watson; great grandchildren, Talia, Ezmun, Leviticus, Zayden, SeNailah, Octavious, Dantaveius, Maliah, Robert, Javen; aunts, Bonnie Spivey, Janie Harris, Dale Penn, Jessma Covington, Stella Moore; uncles, Richard Moore, Harry Moore, Johnny Mac Moore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

M. at North Summerville Baptist Church, 119 Maplewood Drive, Summerville, GA. 30747 with Pastor Kevin Roach as Eulogist and Pastor Timothy Williamson, officiating. Michael Dennis Mason, Obit (M)

Mr. Michael Dennis Mason, age 53, of Cherokee Ridge, AL died Thursday, June 8, 2023 in a Birmingham hospital.

Mr. Mason was born January 20, 1970, in Rome, GA, to Michael Charles and Patricia Ann Wooten Mason. He was a Real Estate Broker and worked for Magnolia Blossom Real Estate.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Myrtle Mason and Clicky and Ruth Wooten.

Survivors include his soul mate, Julie Catzin; his parents, Michael and Patricia Mason; one son, Aaron Mason; a daughter, Alyssa Mason; two brothers, Todd (Tracy) Mason, and Brad (Heather) Mason.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM EST at Mason Funeral Home in Summerville, GA.

Irene Hunt, Obit (ER)

MRS. IRENE HUNT, age 91, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, morning in a Rome Hospital. Native to Gore, Georgia, she was born to the late Leonard Edward and Eula Mae Hamilton Howard, on October 5, 1931. Mrs. Hunt was a member of Lyerly First Baptist Church and was formerly a Greeter for Walmart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Hunt, a sister, the late Kathleene Reynolds, and brothers, the late Horace Howard and Lewis Howard.

Surviving are daughter, Peggy Hunt (Hugh) Webb; sons, Winston (Sue) Hunt and Danny Hunt; seven Grandchildren, seventeen Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 11th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Odom officiating; active pallbearers Terrance Davis, Avery Burbrink, Jackson Foust, Tony Hunt, Ryon Minter, Dylon Anderson, Colby Beach, Canan Anderson, and Mason Anderson, Interment in Lyerly Cemetery. Louise Crowder, Obit (C)

Mrs. Louise Crowder, age 93,of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Crowder was born in Portersville, Alabama on, September 9, 1929, daughter of the late William Barnett and Trannie Barnett. She was Baptist by faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crowder was preceded in death by a son, Charles Sills, her brother, Louis Barnett, granddaughter, Wanda Greene, great-grandson, Jamie Lee Wells and great-great granddaughter, Mariah Laney.

Mrs. Crowder is survived by her daughter, Hazel McWhorter, sister, Willie Parton, grandchildren, Loretta Hensley, Darlene McWhorter, Joann McWhorter, Tammy McWhorter and Kenneth McWhorter, 16 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Crowder will be held Saturday, June10, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth McWhorter, Lisa Wells, Calvin Shoaltz, Amber Bachelor, Anthony Eskey and Kevin Rollins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pruitt Hospice.

Mrs. Crowder will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

Mr. Kenneth Eugene “Kenro” Scott, age 52, of the Teloga Community, died Monday, May 29, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Scott was born April 4, 1971, in Summerville, GA, son of Tina Annie Shaffer and the late Terry Eugene Scott. He was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church and had been employed with Mohawk Industries.

Mr. George David Ward, age 71, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, June 5, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Ward was born December 25, 1951, in St. Louis, MO, son of the late Robert and Lelia Kiker Ward. He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills where he worked as an electrician. Mr. Ward loved going to Trade Day, restoring cars, and watching western movies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Hughes Ward; brother, Robert “Bobby” Ward; and a sister, Shirley Ward.

Survivors include his son, David (Kathy) Ward; daughter, Kimberly Michelle Ward; brother, Jimmy (Elaine) Ward; sisters, Brenda (Roy) Akerey, Frances (Charles) Akerey; grandchildren, Tytus and Jovie Thrasher, Kaitlyn Thrasher, Preston Ward, Brylie Ward, Bryson Ward, Dylan Ward, Devon McGuire, and Levi McGuire.

Lee Lamar Toles, Obit (M)

Mr. Lee Lamar Toles, age 91, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, June 5, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Toles was born January 29, 1932, in the Alpine Community, son of the late Guy Harold Toles, Sr. and Eunice Autrey Cavin Toles. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Toles had also taught electro-mechanical and construction at Chattooga High School for 10 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Toles was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Esttlee Thrash Toles; brothers, Fletcher Toles, Guy Harold Toles, Jr.; sister, Daphne Toles; and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Toles.

Survivors include his sons, Stewart (Elaine) Conrad Toles, Mark Hiram Toles; sister, Iris Toles; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Alpine Cemetery with Rev. Steve Peppers and Rev. Larry Elliott officiating.

Mr. James Eugene Orr, Obit (ER)

MR. JAMES EUGENE ORR, 85, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023 in a Rome Georgia Senior Living Facility. He was born in Trion Georgia, April 17, 1938, son of the late Raymond Orr, Sr. and Gertrude Yates Orr. Mr. Orr served in the United States Army, was a member of the Pennville First Baptist Church, was employed with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia for a number of years as an Electronic Specialist, and did T.V. Repair.

Surviving are his wife, Pluma Alice Orr; son, Bobby Orr; three grandchildren, Alex Orr, Adam Orr, and Emma Orr; brother, Raymond Orr, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Colbert officiating, interment in Greenhills Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frances Maureen Evans, Obit (M)

Mrs. Frances Maureen Evans age 80 of Lyerly passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at a Rome Hospital.
Mrs. Evans was born September 13, 1942 in Trion, GA to the late Geary Voy and Ruth Rowlls Pettett. She was an active member of solid Rock Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her dog, gardening, taking trips to the beach, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Evans; children, Timothy Evans, Tammy Manness, and Cindy Hayes; and granddaughter, Amanda Butler.
Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Annette (Nick) Hernandez ; son-in-laws Rev. David Hayes and George Mannes; grandchildren, Leigha (Kevin) Parker, Emily (Josh) Hurley, Sarah (Andrew) Cook, Jodi Byers, Joshua (Tiffany) Barnes, Evan Hernandez, Krissa Hernandez, Lacie (Chance) Hunter, Benjamin Welke, Timothy Evans, Shane Evans, Michael McKeehan, Greg Stephens, Todd Stephens, and Robin Stephens; 25 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Mrs. Evans will take place at 5:00 PM Thursday, June 8 2023 at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Trion, GA. Flowers will be accepted at the church.
