Mr. Homer Alexander Williams, Jr., age 66, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Chulio Hills Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Williams was born November 24, 1956, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late Homer Williams, Sr. and Jessie Cummings Wallins. He was a member of Christian Church, Rome, GA, and prior to his retirement, worked in the housing construction industry.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Luttrell; brothers, Harold Williams, Andy Williams, and Nickey Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Johnson Williams; sons, Homer Alexander Williams, III, Bobby Cundiff, and Jamie Cundiff; daughters, Amanda Starliper, Donna Alexander, and Amy Gambrell; a sister, Annie Fowler; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mr. Williams will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Ridgeway Cemetery with Chaplain Billy Murdock officiating. Pallbearers will be Brandon Alexander, Josh Stones, Daniel Williams, Corey Gambrell, Ben Gambrell, and Alex Williams.

There will be no visitation and family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 A.M.

Jade Robinson, Obit (M)

Mrs. Jade Alexandra Robinson, age 32, of Teloga, GA, passed away suddenly Monday, May 15, 2023, at Erlanger Medical Center.

Mrs. Robinson was born February 13, 1991, in Rome, GA, daughter of Philana Phillips Williams and Richard Robinson. She was employed with Roper Corporation. Mrs. Robinson loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. She especially loved her wife and children and was a natural caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Arlie Robinson; grandmother, Sarah Phillips; and a nephew, Jeremiah Robinson.

Survivors include her spouse, Madison Victoria Pickard Robinson; children, Lashauna Leek, Maggie Russell, Blake Russell; brothers, Brian Robinson, Cassey Robinson; a sister, Katharyn Leek; and special grandmother, Sarah Robinson.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Robinson will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 20, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kane Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Robinson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cassey Robinson, Brian Robinson, Rylan Robinson, Nick England, Nathan Young, and Kelsy Young.

Lola Pickle, Obit (M)

Mrs. Lola Ellen Clark Pickle, age 95, of Menlo, GA, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side.

Mrs. Pickle was born March 21, 1928, in Milan, GA, daughter of the late Charlie Banks Clark and Mary Ellen Lloyd Clark. She was homemaker and a member of Menlo First Baptist Church. Mrs. Pickle had been employed as a substitute teacher. She was also a member of the Chattooga Republican Party.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Hollis Pickle; and a daughter, Charla Pickle.

Survivors include sons, Gerald Pickle, Mark Pickle; daughter, Barbara (Greg) McCollum; grandchildren, Amelia (Richard) Brown, Adrian Westendorff-Pickle, Emma Pickle, Clark McCollum, and Alex Pickle; great-grandchildren, Sam Brown and Charlotte Brown.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pickle will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2023, at Menlo First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex Pickle, Jared Hosmer, Jeff Martin, Mike Martin, Adam Hester, and Adrian Westendorff-Pickle.

Mrs. Pickle will be in state at Menlo First Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Kathryn Annette Roper, Obit (C)

Mrs. Kathryn Annette Roper, age 75 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Roper was born in Trion, Georgia on December 6, 1947, daughter of the late Ralph David Burton and Lenora Day Burton. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, where she was active in many of the church’s activities. She was retired from the Floyd County Superior Court System, was a former member of the Red Hat Society and loved to arrange flowers.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roper was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Burton and Dorothy Burton; and two brothers, Jerry Burton and Leon Burton.

Mrs. Roper is survived by her husband, William Robert “Bob” Roper; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Angie Roper; sister, Margaret Manning; granddaughter, Ansley Roper; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebraton Life for Mrs. Roper will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall of the Trion First Baptist Church.

SGT Gerald Walter Emery #535 (Ret.), age 83, of Summerville, GA (formerly of Milledgeville, GA), died Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his residence.

SGT Emery was born March 18, 1940, in Garden, MI, son of the late Walter H. and Isabell M. Kervin Emery. SGT Emery retired from the Georgia State Patrol after 30 years of service. He was stationed at Post 33, Milledgeville. SGT Emery was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Houghton, Wanda Boyer; and a brother, Edward “Ted” Emery.

Survivors include his daughter, Amy Emery (Felipe) Tijerina; son, David G. (Natalie) Emery; sisters, Evelyn Roberts, Shirley Schwebs; grandchildren, Glenn Emery, Janie Emery, Clifford Bratcher, Nicholas Bratcher, and Jennifer Gilleland; great-grandchildren, Roone Emery, Briar Ellenburg.

Funeral services for SGT Emery will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Ricky Harold Fletcher age 67 of Cedar Bluff, AL passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Fletcher was born July 24, 1955 in Gadsden, AL to the late Willie and Lola Helms Fletcher. He was retired from Chattooga Steel and Valley Joist as a welder.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Green, Billy Fletcher, Grady Fletcher, and John Fletcher.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Blaylock Fletcher; daughters, Leighann Gilbert, Wendy Fletcher, and Morgan Kennedy; sisters, Glenda Wynn and Jessie Pierce; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside & interment services to celebrate the life of Mr. Fletcher will be held at 3:30 PM (EST) Sunday, May 14 at Union Cemetery with Rev. John Mann and Rev. Trey Jordan officiating. Shirley Mae Pursley Floyd, Obit (M)

Mrs. Shirley Mae Pursley Floyd, age 95, of Summerville, GA, went to be with Jesus on May 8, 2023.

She was born April 28, 1923, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Taft D. Pursley and Annie Mae Pursley. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Robert “Bob” Gamble and Charles “Boots” Floyd; sisters, Dorothy Lenderman and Doris Jean Strawn.

Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, PCA of Summerville. She owned and operated the Dinner Bell Café in Lyerly and prior to that, worked as a teletype operator at Bigelow Sanford and the cotton mill in Summerville. She loved walking the track at Dowdy Park and meeting with her friends.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Martha Gamble (Sam) Donovan; grandchildren, Russell Allen Donovan, Katie Donovan (Wesley) Harrell; great-grandchildren, Lang Harrell and Mitchell Harrell; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Floyd will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Spears officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Floyd will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Mrs. Elaine Coker, age 86 of the Jamestown Community, Gaylesville, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Coker was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on March 29, 1936, daughter of the late William Henry Hartline and Edith Elaine Powell Hartline. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. Mrs. Coker was loved by many, and had a great sense of humor. She was a born again Christian, being a member of the South Commerce Church of Christ since her early teenage years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coker was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Coker; sister, Judy Hurley and brothers, Buddy Hartline and Larry Hartline.

Mrs. Coker is survived by her son, Gary Coker; daughter, Phyllis Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Peggy Hartline; sister, Dot Shankles; sister-in-law, Donna Hartline; 4grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Committal Services for Mrs. Coker will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the AMI Cemetery with Rev. Terry Colbert officiating.

Pallbearers will include Michael Coker, Eric Sparks, Tonya Sparks and Carter Sparks.

There will be no formal visitation.

Mr. Taylor Lamar Adams, age 81, of Cloudland, GA, died Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Adams was born July 22, 1941, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Herman Lee and Winnie Ruth Taylor Adams. He was a member of Cloudland Presbyterian Church and prior to his retirement, worked as a self-employed electrician. He had also owned and operated AAA Hardware.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Norris Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Hawkins Adams; a son, Daryll Adams; and sister, Myra Smith.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Cloudland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Bro. Roger Keith officiating. Active pallbearers will be Stan Smith, Guy Smith, Brian Hawkins, LeBron Williams, Terry Roden, and Chad Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be James and Mandy Durham, Durwood and Miriam Mills.

Barbara Wooten Gifford, Obit (C)

Mrs. Barbara Wooten Gifford, age 86 of Summerville, formerly of Menlo, Georgia passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Gifford was born in Collinsville, Alabama on March 13, 1937, daughter of the late William Arthur Wooten and Ella Faye Henderson Wooten. She enjoyed the simpler things in life, was a homemaker and was a longtime caregiver to many children in the Menlo area. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gifford was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Gifford; sisters, Ardelle (Shack) Morrison, Hazel (Ruzie) Touchstone, Eloise (Ray) Chamlee and Louise (Robert) Boatfield; and a brother, William Arthur (Jamie) Wooten.

Mrs. Gifford is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tony Prince; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kim Gifford, Roy and Angie Gifford and David Gifford; 6 grandchildren; 8 grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and “adoptive children and grandchildren.”

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Gifford will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 3:30 P.M. (EST) in the Head Springs Cemetery in Valley Head, Alabama with Rev. Barry Brown and Rev. John McGraw officiating.

Pallbearers will be Randall Boatfield, Robert Boatfield, David Matthews, Stephen Kendrick, Bobby Patterson and Richard Chamlee. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Amedisys Hospice.
