Mrs. Georgia Evelyn “Carol” Davis, age 87, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Davis was born October 20, 1935, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Lewis Houston and Gertrude Ray Helton. She was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and prior to her retirement, was employed with Harriet and Henderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Davis; and a daughter, Mary Wofford.

Survivors include her daughter, Freda Davis; brothers, Harold (Vesta) Helton, Charles Wayne (Jayne) Helton; grandchildren, Jill Davis and Justin Wofford; and 1 great-grandchild.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Mickey Skates officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Barbara Jean Edwards, Obit (M)

Mrs. Barbara Jean Edwards age 82 of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023 at a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Edwards was born November 4, 1940 in Trion, GA to the late Collis and Francis Reynolds Styles. She was retired from Lyerly Elementary School. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, her pets, fishing, and being outdoors. Her true gift was helping others.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Black; brother, Waymond Styles; along with another sister and brother-in-laws.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Edwards; son, Danny Edwards (Rhonda); son-in-law, Reagan Black; sister, Penny Woods (Mike); 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edwards will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Lyerly Cemetery with Mr. Mike Woods officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Ann Nelson, age 84, of Gaylesville, AL, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Nelson was born November 18, 1938, in Carbon Hill, AL, daughter of the late Henry Edgar and Bessie Lee Early Nelson. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Pharr Yarns of Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby McGinnis, Sr.; siblings, Tommy Nelson, Gertrude Montgomery, Hazel Nelson, Jackie McPherson, and Judy Hood.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Billy Ray Nelson; son, Bobby Joe (Marquetta) McGinnis, Jr.; brother, Henry Allen (Donna) Nelson; sisters, Mildred Nelson, Nancy (Johnny) Nelson, Helen (Bill) Derrick, Ellen Newberry, and Linda (Jerry) Brown; grandchildren, Laci Smitherman, Mahayla McGraw; great-grandchildren, Raegan Smitherman, Zackery McGraw, and McKenna McGraw; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Faith Baptist Church in Gaylesville with Rev. Clay Mooreland officiating. Interment will follow in Moseley Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Faith Baptist Church.

Mrs. Nelson will be in state at Faith Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Mrs. Callie Marie Slayton, age 78, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Slayton was born January 8, 1945, daughter of the late J.C. Thomas and Violet Hunter. She was a member of Old Way Baptist Church and had previously worked at Palmer’s Farmers Market.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slayton was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Charles Slayton; brother, Buck Hunter; sister, Mary Ann Wells; and great-grandchildren, JoAnna Grace Shafer, John David Shafer, and Sawyer Hunter Shafer.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Slayton; daughter, Tammy (Stanley) Shafer; grandchildren, Brandi Barr, Tyler Shafer, Brittany Slayton, Lacey Barr, Dylan Bryson, Cody Slayton, Kelby Slayton, and Callie C. MRS. SHIRLEY TREADAWAY SPEER, age 82, of Farmersville Road, Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in a Rome hospital. A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born to the late Lonnie Carl and Mae Brown Treadaway on November 16, 1940. Mrs. Speer was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and retired from the weave shop of Riegel Textile Corporation. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by, brothers the late Jimmy Treadaway, Jerry Treadaway, Randy Treadaway, Charles Treadaway, and Tommy Treadaway.

Surviving are Her husband, Jerry Speer; sisters, Betty Mahan (Lewis), Debbie Pyper (Bud), Dianne Watkins (David), Sandra Kirby; brothers, Billy Treadaway (Rita), and Bobby Treadaway; a special friend, Rhonda Pollard; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mrs. Lora Frances Tucker Norton, age 96, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Norton was born September 24, 1926, in Centre, AL, daughter of the late David Thomas and Della Dora Cash Tucker. She was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Best Manufacturing. Mrs. Norton loved her church, her family, and enjoyed traveling and growing flowers.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Norton, Jr.; an infant daughter, Beverly Diane Norton; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her son, Larry (Myra) Norton; daughters, Joan (Dale) Willingham, Linda (Emory) Tallent, and Karen (David) Fletcher; brothers, Jamie Tucker, Leon Tucker, and John Tucker; a sister, Ann Brown; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. VIOLA PLEDGER LAWMAN, age 100, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, in Marietta. Mrs. Lawman was born on March 16, 1922, in Summerville, Georgia to the late Cicero and Ida Mitchell Pledger. She was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church and was retired from Bohannon’s Store. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Thomas Lawman, a sister-Oneida Owens, and brothers-Bill Pledger and Winston Pledger.

Surviving are daughters, Deborah Lawman Gerber, Linda Lawman Johannes, and Nancy Lawman Moon; grandsons-Bill Moon, Keith Moon, Travis Wright, Greg Wright, and Nathan Wright; several Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, interment in Summerville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 until 2 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies Sunday School Class of South Summerville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Vivian Elizabeth “Cricket” Burrage, age 66 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Burrage was born in Lafayette, Georgia on April 9, 1956, daughter of the late James Austin Hall and Letha Elizabeth Black Hall. She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church, the Sons of Anarchy, and was a homemaker. She loved to shop and loved her dogs. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burrage was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Lowe/

Mrs. Burrage is survived by sons, James David Burrage(Melissa Bullard), Joseph Scott Sipsy and Robert Shane Cochran; daughter and son-in-law, Selena Elizabeth and Terry Cagle; honorary daughter, Rhonda Baggett; honorary sister, Darlene Smith; grandchildren, JD Wood, Kerri Wood and Gracie Wood; additional grandchildren and great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Edith Gale Williams Burrage, age 69 of Summerville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 at a Rome Hospital following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Burrage was born in Trion, Georgia on February 17, 1954, daughter of the late Francis Bailey Williams, Sr. and Annie Mae Ray Williams. She was a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries. She was a great cook and baker, loved to quilt and draw, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burrage was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Bailey Williams, Jr. a great grandson, Charles Larry Burrage, III, and a brother-in-law, Charles Tudor.

Mrs. Burrage is survived by her husband, Larry Burrage; daughter, Frances Green and her companion, Nathan Major; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Holly Burrage and Charles, Jr. and Kelly Burrage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lula and Buddy Blalock, Doris and Danny Deering and Martha Tudor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Wanda Williams, Charles and Singida Williams and Ray and Donna Williams; grandchildren, Colten Burrage, Gabriel Burrage, Dexter (Candace) Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell(Ben Huggins) and Ashlyn Burrage; great grandchildren, Piper Mitchell and Parker Mitchell and one on the way, Loraleigh Huggins; and a number o f nieces and nephews.
