Frank “Tank” Reece, Obit (M)

Mr. Frank “Tank” Reece, age 96 of Lyerly, GA passed away Friday, April 20, 2023 at a local hospital.

Mr. Reece was born January 12, 1927 in Lyerly, GA to the late W.O. & Mary Garner Reece. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Lyerly Methodist Church. Mr. Reece proudly served his country in the United States Army receiving the Good Conduct and the National Defense Medals. He was a member of the American Legion Post 129.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Cammie Youngblood Reece; and sister, Beatrice Gardner.

Survivors include his son Cody (Katlin) Cromer; grandchildren, Jackson and C.J. Cromer; and nieces and nephews, Sissy Morris, Billy Morris, Michael Morris, Elizabeth Suits, Mary Clements, Butch Gardner, Patricia Pledger, and Charlie Koonce; and several cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Reece will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 24 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Max Suits, C.J. Cromer, Bobby Jones, Jo Jo Cromer, Michael Morris, and Brandon Green. serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour at the funeral home.

Mike Hutchins, Obit (M)

Mr. Mike Hutchins, age 73, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Hutchins was born January 14, 1950, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late W.A. and Sarah Harper Hutchins. He was a 1968 graduate of Chattooga High School and a graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Hutchins was a retired farmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Sara Jane Hunter.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Genela Garmon Hutchins; children, Amy (Jeromie) Hartline, Krista (Josh) Flanigan, and Connie (Claye) Barwick; sisters, Ann Hutchins, Mary (Kevin) Firsdon; 4 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In accordance with Mr. Hutchins’ wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his residence (2940 Old Highway 337 – Summerville, GA).

Benjamin Kilgore Chreitzberg, Jr, Obit (M)

Mr. Benjamin Kilgore Chreitzberg, Jr., age 90, of Rome, GA, formerly of Easley, SC, died Monday, April 17, 2023, at The Spires.

Mr. Chreitzberg was born September 6, 1932, in Williamston, SC, son of the late Benjamin Kilgore Chreitzberg, Sr. and Nell Whitten Chreitzberg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Easley, SC, where he taught couples Sunday School Class, and was ordained as a Deacon in 1969, having served in several Baptist Churches. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Senior Vice President of Manufacturing at Gerber Children’s Wear.

Mr. Chreitzberg was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a First Lieutenant and Company Executive Officer in the First Tank Batallion. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. Mr. Chreitzberg had also served on the Board of Directors at First Union Bank as well as the South Carolina Textile Manufacturing Association. He had also served on the Anderson County School Board – District One.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Ann Chreitzberg; son, Benjamin “Ben” Chreitzberg; sister, Ann Chreitzberg Turner; a brother, Kennedy Whitten; brother-in-law, Thomas Alexander Willis.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Betty Phillips Chreitzberg; daughter, Lisa Chreitzberg (Dennis) Bryant; sister, Claire Chreitzberg Willis; nephew, Thomas Alexander (Melissa) Willis, III; grandchildren, Virginia Nell Bryant, Alex Norman Bryant, Kathleen Sloan Chreitzberg Crippen, and Benjamin Kilgore (Tyler) Chreitzberg, IV; and great-grandchild, Hinley Jean Crippen.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Pastor Jared Pickard officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex Bryant, John Wolfe, Thomas Willis, III, and Dennis Bryant.
There will be no visitation.

The memorial service for Thomas “Tommy” C. Drummond has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 10th. The service will be held at the Summerville Railroad Depot located at 119 E. Washington Street inSummerville from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.  The service is rescheduled due to location conflicts.

Jeremy Shane DeBerry, Obit (M)

Mr. Jeremy Shane DeBerry, age 39, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Mr. DeBerry was born August 20, 1983, in Rome, GA, son of Jerry Dale DeBerry and Dee Anna Eller Ward. He was a member of Connect City Church and was employed as a millwright with Brand, Inc.

Mr. DeBerry was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fred Eller; paternal grandparents, Enis and Cecil DeBerry; and maternal great-grandparents, Jim and Margaret Baker.

Survivors include his mother, Dee Anna Ward; father, Jerry Dale DeBerry; son, Jackson Rossen; daughter, Ansley Rossen; step-father, Rickey Ward, Sr.; brothers, Christopher Chase DeBerry and Rickey Ward, Jr.; sister, Brooke Hester; grandmother, Barbara Eller; and special aunt, Jimmie Sue Kirby.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jared Pickard officiating. Interment will follow in AMI Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rickey Ward, Jr., Kelly Kirby, Jesse DeBerry, Joseph Wilson, Jason Brown, and Chase DeBerry.

Hester “Faye” Haney, Obit (M)

Mrs. Hester “Faye” Haney, age 91, of Trion, GA, died Friday, April 14, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Haney was born May 6, 1931, in Berryton, GA, daughter of the late D.W. Reynolds Fannie Reynolds Burrage. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Way Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Haney; a daughter, Doris Agnew; siblings, Buddy Reynolds, Donnie Burrage, Billy Burrage, and Bobbie Burrage.

Survivors include her sons, Butch (Elaine) Haney, Ronnie Haney; daughters, Jan Oliver, Joyce Reynolds, Sandra Gentry, Margie (Pat) Miller; a brother, Hoyt Burrage; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 17, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garrett Estus, Conner Miller, Joseph Johnson, Jonathan Organ, Jacob Hughes, and Eddie Hughes.

David Andrew Brown, Obit (M)

Mr. David Andrew Brown, age 80, of Summerville, GA, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Brown was born May 3, 1942, in the Silver Hill Community, son of the late Joe Washington Brown and Flossie Eunice Holloway Brown. He was a member of United By Faith Baptist Church and was a self-employed painter and carpenter.
Mr. Brown loved working with wood and building doll houses, bird houses, and bird feeders.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a son, Robbie Brown; daughter, Joanna Hope Brown; brothers, Emmett Brown, Theoda Brown; and a sister, Mildred Barlow.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Janice Parris Brown; sons, Alex (Lisa) Brown, Brandon Brown, Joshua Holloway; daughters, Marie (Richie) Smith, Jennifer (Tommy) Middleton, and Meagan (Justin) Hughes; brothers, Virgle (Annie) Brown, Frank Brown; sisters, Margaret “Monk” (Leon) Craig, Dean (Vernon) Ponder; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 14, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Brown and Dr. Charles Bishop officiating. Ms. Wanda Maxine Campbell, age 80, of Rome, GA, died Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her niece’s residence.

Mrs. Campbell was born January 27, 1943, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James Woodrow Campbell and Jewell Lucille Jones Campbell. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Consolidated Pipe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Sue Campbell Tallent, Lois Jean Campbell Holder; nephew, Phillip Holder; and a niece, Babbie Campbell.

Survivors include her niece, Vicky Holder Reece; special great-niece, Sarah Reece; nieces and nephews, Carla Holder Stockburger, Robin Campbell, Diane Tallent Williams, Ricky Campbell, and Ronnie Tallent; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 14, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Moseley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Campbell, Adam Reece, Caden Reece, Tim Hogg, Heath Hammond, and Nathan Reece.

Kathleen M. Silvers, Obit (ER)

MRS. KATHLEEN M. SILVERS, age 82, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, April 8, 2023. She was born in LaFayette, Georgia on April 12, 1940 to the late Lee and Nellie Hill Corbin. Mrs. Silvers was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and prior to retirement was an operator for Wometco Company. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by husband, the late Thomas A. (Tom) Silvers, son, the late Gary Eugene Silvers, granddaughter the late Jaden Mitchell, and Six Siblings.

Surviving are daughter, Tammy (Jamie) Mitchell; sons, Rickey (Brenda) Silvers and Mickey (Marilyn) Silvers; sister, Faye (Ray) Wooten; brother, Floyd Lee Corbin; Ten Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Biddle and Rev. John Louis Shamblin, Obit (M)

Mr. John Louis Shamblin, age 99, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Shamblin was born January 1, 1924, in Menlo, GA, son of the late Phi Burnett Shamblin and Bonnie Marguerite Tate Shamblin. He was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, owned and operated Shamblin Hardware. Mr. Shamblin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Sergeant in World War II. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 6688, the American Legion, and the Chattooga Lodge 704 F.&A.M.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shamblin was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jo Cothran Shamblin; a sister, Hazel Reece; and a brother, Hugh Shamblin.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Robin) Shamblin; grandchildren, Sierra (Ruben) Bonilla, Hamilton Shamblin; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. (E.S.T.) Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Mount Bethel Cemetery, Broomtown, AL.

There will be no visitation.
