Mrs. Timekco Shaunte Shropshire, age 45 of Summerville, Georgia passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Shropshire was born in Rome, Georgia on October 15, 1977, daughter of Mrs. Angalee Shropshire Williams. She was a member of the New Spirit and Truth Assembly of Jesus and was employed as a home care giver with Affordable Health Care, and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Shropshire was preceded in death by a grandmother, Mattie Lee Shropshire; Aunts, Pamela Evans and Jeraline Smith; and cousins, Nick Shropshire and Kerry Evans.

Mrs. Shropshire is survived by her husband, Alex Knox; sons, Montavius Shropshire and Zavion Shropshire; daughter, Ariana Wooten; and a host of additional family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shropshire will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the New Spirit and Truth Assembly of Jesus with her pastor, V.T. Harden officiating. Interment will follow in the Allgood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Coby Smith, Tamarius Evans, Danarius Evans, Casey Darden, Jeffery L. Covington and Asher Cox/

Mrs. Shropshire will lie in state at the New Spirit and Truth Assembly of Jesus on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Michael Dylan Leming, age 27, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Mr. Leming was born November 2, 1995, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, son of Jeffery Lewis and Melissa G. Gazaway Farley. He was employed with Smith Iron Works and enjoyed being a dad and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Kayden Dylan Leming; daughter, Aria Leana-Rose Leming; a baby boy due next month, Waylon Leming; parents, Jeffery and Melissa Farley; brothers, Cameron Gazaway, Harley Chambers; sister, Caitlyn Leming; mothers of his children, Jasmine Carico and Jerrika Hampton.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Mason Funeral Home.

Joan Elizabeth Selman Jarrett, Obit (ER)

Joan Elizabeth Selman Jarrett ascended to Heaven on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Joan, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia will be held at Summerville First United Methodist Church Sunday, February 26,2023, at 3 pm with Rev. J Wesley Privett officiating.

She will be laid to rest following the service at the Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery with Jason Jarrett, Charlie Jarrett, Jeffrey Jarrett, Chris Jarrett, Seth Selman and Bart Nance serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Rainwater Funeral Home and 2 pm until the hour of service at Summerville First United Methodist Church on Sunday.

Joan Elizabeth Selman was born on August 6, 1953 in Rome, Georgia to James and Glenda Barton Selman. Joan was a 1971 graduate of Armuchee High School. She married DeJuan Jarrett in March 24, 1972 and moved to the Jarrett Farm in Summerville. She attended Berry College and obtained a degree in Elementary Education. She completed 32 years of teaching and retired in 2006 from Chattooga County Schools. She attended Summerville First United Methodist Church and was a member of Armuchee Baptist Church.

Joan spent her free time taking care of her family and friends and volunteering at her church. She was a devoted wife, Mama and Nana. When her children Lauren and Ryan were growing up, she spent her weekends, summers and holidays on the rodeo trail. She enjoyed also cooking and serving others. As a dairy farmer’s wife, she took special care of DeJuan. She loved to travel. Being Nana to Jurnee Rae was the highlight of her life for the last four years. She loved to tell Jurnee stories to her friends and family. Joan was so proud of Lauren and her accomplishments as an Agriculture Education Teacher in Chattooga County and of Ryan and his rodeo accomplishments. She was a devoted daughter and friend was even nicknamed by a special friend in Texas as “Nanny 911”.

Joan leaves behind her husband DeJuan and her daughter Lauren, both of Summerville, her son Ryan and his wife ShyAnne of Comanche, Oklahoma, and granddaughter, Jurnee Rae. She also leaves her mother Glenda Selman of Rome and her brother Steve Selman and his wife Sharon of Armuchee, aunt and uncle Delores and Ron Nance, in-laws Mike and Kathy Jarrett of Summerville, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of sweet friends. She was preceded in death by her father James Crawford Selman and grandparents Thomas Spurgeon Selman and Elise Crawford Selman and Thomas Leonard Barton and Idell Miller Barton.

MR. JAMES HARPER BLACKMON, JR., age 84, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, in a Chattanooga Hospital. He was born in Floyd County, Georgia on March 18, 1938, son of the late James Harper Blackmon, Sr. and Lillie D. Ingram Blackmon. He was employed as a Supervisor with Harriett – Henderson Mills for a number of years and a member of the Living Waters Ministries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Blackmon.

Surviving are daughter, Tina Loggins; sons, James H. Blackmon, III, Marty Blackmon, and Kenny Blackmon; Ten Grandchildren; Several Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Bonnie Blackmon and Shirley Kiser; Brothers, Johnny Blackmon and Rickey Blackmon; Several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. J. AUSTIN MOORE, age 82 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, February 21,2023 at his residence. He was born in Summerville, Georgia, June 11, 1940, son of the late Joe A. Moore and Ruby Gertrude Jackson Moore. He was a farmer by trade and member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Moore; daughters, Susan Moore, Donna Moore, Debra Moore; son, Kenneth & Tina Moore; Grandchildren, Timothy Sisemore, II, Christopher David Sisemore, Tyler Lee & Jessica Moore, Joshua & Autumn Moore, Josh Hampton, Autumn Hampton; Several Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 24, 2023, at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor David Thompson officiating, interment in Subligna Cemetery. Charles Ray Frost, Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Ray Frost, age 80 of Summerville ,GA passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023 at a local healthcare facility.

Mr. Frost was born May 5, 1942 in Chattooga County, GA to the late Griff Frost and Jewell Hughes Dalton. He was a 40 year resident of Oakview and enjoyed life, fishing, and watching baseball.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters; Mary DeBerry and Shirley Boswell; and step-father, Hal Dalton.

Survivors include his brother, Kenneth (Janice) Dalton and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mr. Frost will take place at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 22 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Harold Mullins officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Rutledge, Randy Dalrymple, Jr., Adam DeBerry, Jessie DeBerry, and Chase Pursley. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Martha Sue Speer, Obit (ER)

MRS. MARTHA SUE SPEER, age 89, of Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday afternoon in a Rome hospital. A lifetime resident of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born to the late Homer C. and Mary Doster Gordon on July 7, 1933. Mrs. Speer graduated from Gore High School, in 1950, was Valedictorian and was selected for Girl of the year with the school spirit and was recipient of a $150.00 scholarship for college from the Summerville-Trion Rotary Club. She attended West GA. College for a year then changed from Home Economics to Business, then took a business course at Caroll Lynn Business School. Upon graduation was office manager for the Early Head Start until retirement. Was Saved and Baptized at age 12 and was a member at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Gore. In 1948 was elected to serve as Church pianist and then as organist, playing until July, 2022; She also taught the Beginners Sunday School Class for 26 years. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by husband, the late Robert S. Speer, Jr., son and daughter-in-law, the late Steve and Marie Speer, and siblings, Sidney Gordon, George Ed Gordon, Don Gordon, and Harold Gordon.

Surviving are granddaughters, Lindsey Speer and Brittney Sanford; great grandchildren, Carlie Sanford, Colton Sanford, and Cason Sanford; special friend, Joyce Crane; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22nd, at 2:00 P.M. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James Baird officiating, interment in the Church Cemetery. Mildred “Virginia” Barkley, Obit (ER)

MRS. MILDRED “VIRGINIA” JOHNSON BARKLEY, 97 of Jasper passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Northside Hospital – Cherokee in Canton, Georgia.

Mrs. Barkley was a lifelong resident of Summerville until 2017 when she moved to Jasper to be with her son. She was born August 23, 1925 in Summerville, Georgia to the late John Samuel Johnson and the late Ruth May Blalock. She was a true Prayer Warrior and member of the Summerville First Baptist Church where she taught a Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. She retired in 1985 after 25 years of service from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Chattooga ASCS Office where she worked closely with the farmers of Chattooga County. In 2019, she became a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Robert “Bob” Barkley, Sr., (a decorated WWII Combat Veteran) and three Brothers, J.S. Johnson, Jr., Harold Johnson, and Arnold Johnson.

Surviving are her Son and very special Daughter in law, Robert “Robby” Barkley, Jr. & Mary Barkley; Two Grandsons, Paul Barkley (III) and Brandon Barkley, Three Great Granddaughters Dannin Rose Barkley, Liliana Barkley & Olivia Laurel Barkley. Several Nieces,
nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, February 20th, 2023 at the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Mason and Rev. Barry Peppers officiating. Burial will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Mark Schrader, Joseph Jackson, Joe Barkley, Mike Tomlin, Ross Clifton, Doug Carlock, Nick Chamblee and Lamar Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Joy Club from the Summerville First Baptist Church.

William G. “Bill” Davidson, Obit (ER)

MR. William G. (BILL) DAVIDSON, age 92, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, in a Rome hospital. Mr. Davidson was born in Maysville, Georgia to the late Paul and Mahuldah Wilson Davidson, on December 14, 1939. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, was a Veteran of Korea, serving in the U. S. Air Force, was a businessman for many years in the Atlanta area. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Teddy, and Robert Davidson.

Surviving are his wife, Bobbye Jo Davidson; son, Michael Davidson; brother in law Doug (Beth) Wilson; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at 2:00 P.M., from the Trion First Baptist Church with Dr. Warren Moorehead and Pastor Casey Bramlett officiating, interment West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Wil Graham, Tristan Graham, Steve Davidson, Ryan Starks, Tony Walker, and Taso Karahalios. The “Wilson Cousins Lunch Bunch” will be Honorary Pallbearers.

Leo Edward Bridges, Obit (M)

Mr. Leo Edward Bridges, age 81, of Gaylesville, AL, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Bridges was born May 23, 1941, in Jamestown, AL, son of the late Lewis Millard and Gladys Miller Bridges. He was a member of and deacon at Chesterfield Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 30 years with Chattanooga Glass and had worked at Best Manufacturing. Mr. Bridges took over his family’s farm and maintained it until the time of his death.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Bridges; and a sister, Cora Mae Cavin.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Wright Bridges; a son, Michael (Chasity) Bridges; a sister, Glenda Hudson; grandchildren, Addie Bridges and Lane Bridges; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Friday, February 17, 2023, at Chesterfield Baptist Church with Rev. Jim VanPelt and Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in AMI Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lane Bridges, Chester Bridges, John Bridges, Keith Lutz, Donnie Hudson, Joe Wright, and Mikie Jones.
