The Georgia High School Association has finalized its football region alignments for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, giving both Chattooga High School and Trion High School a clearer picture of the road ahead.

Chattooga High School will compete in Class AA, Region 7-AA, where they’ll face a strong and familiar slate of opponents including Christian Heritage, Dade County, Fannin County, Gordon Central, Gordon Lee, and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. The region features a mix of established programs and competitive teams, setting up what should be a challenging schedule for the Indians.

Meanwhile, Trion High School will take the field in Class A, Region 7-A, where the Bulldogs are grouped with Bowdon, Greenville, Manchester, and B.E.S.T. Academy. That alignment creates opportunities for both new matchups and continued competition against well-known programs in the classification.

The GHSA’s reclassification cycle, which runs through the 2026-2028 school years, is designed to balance competition across the state based on enrollment and other factors. These region assignments will play a key role in determining standings, playoff qualification, and postseason seeding.

For local fans, the new alignments bring a mix of tradition and change. Chattooga will continue to see several familiar region opponents, while Trion’s schedule introduces some different challenges that could shape the Bulldogs’ path in Class A.

Both programs are expected to begin preparing for the new region competition as they look ahead to the 2026 season and beyond, with region play once again carrying major implications for playoff hopes.
