Trion Lady Bulldogs Make History With First-Ever State Soccer Championship

History was made in Thomaston, Georgia on Friday night as the Trion Lady Bulldogs captured the first state championship in program history with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Irwin County in the GHSA Class A Division II state title match.

Playing at Upson-Lee High School, the Lady Bulldogs rose to the occasion in a hard-fought championship battle worthy of a state final.

Allison Hudgins proved to be the hero for Trion, scoring both goals in the championship victory and helping secure the historic win for the Lady Bulldogs.

The state title marks not only the first girls’ soccer championship in Trion High School history, but also the first girls’ soccer state championship ever won by a Northwest Georgia program.

The historic victory caps off a memorable season for the Lady Bulldogs and forever cements their place in Trion athletics history.

Trion Girls Soccer To Play For State Championship Friday

The Trion Girls Soccer team will take on Irwin County in the state championship on Friday, May 15, at 4:00 PM.

The championship match will be played at Upson-Lee High School. Tickets are $18 and must be purchased through GoFan.

The Trion Football team will also be in action this weekend, scrimmaging North Murray on Saturday, May 16, at 6:00 PM. Admission for the football scrimmage is $10.

Trion Bulldogs To Host Spring Football Game Saturday

The Trion Bulldogs will take the field Saturday evening for their annual spring football game as they host the North Murray Mountaineers at Sam R. McCain Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 16, giving fans an early look at the Bulldogs ahead of the upcoming football season.

The spring matchup will allow coaches to evaluate players and give the community a chance to see the team in action before summer workouts begin.

Trion Athletics Hosting Multiple Youth Sports Camps This Summer

Trion athletics programs are gearing up for a busy summer, offering several youth sports camps for local students looking to build skills and stay active.

The Trion Bulldog Basketball Kiddie Camp is set for June 17-18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a cost of $30 per child. The camp is open to upcoming 3rd through 7th graders for the 2026–2027 school year.

Trion Football will also host a youth camp June 3-5 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sam R. McCain Stadium. The camp is open to children ages 5 through 12 and will include instruction from coaches and players. Cost is $30 per camper and includes a T-shirt, with registration and payment accepted at the stadium.

In addition, Trion High School Softball will hold a youth camp June 1-2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the J.W. Greenwood Athletic Complex softball field. The camp is open to ages 5 through 12, costs $30, and includes a T-shirt. Participants are asked to bring a water bottle, bat, and glove, and to register by May 8 to guarantee a shirt.

All camps will focus on fundamentals, skill development, and providing a fun learning environment for young athletes.

Football Parent Meetings Scheduled This Week For Chattooga And Trion Programs

Parents of student-athletes in both the Chattooga and Trion football programs have important meetings coming up this week as schools prepare for the upcoming season.

At Chattooga High School, an important football parent meeting will take place this evening, Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. in the CHS cafeteria. School officials say at least one parent or guardian is required to attend. Topics expected to be discussed include spring, summer, and fall schedules, free physicals, player expectations, fundraisers, and other program information.

Meanwhile, Trion Football will hold its parent meeting for grades 6 through 12 on Sunday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in the Trion High School gym. Organizers say the meeting is for both middle school and high school football parents, and important information and expectations for the upcoming year will be shared.

Both schools are encouraging parents to make plans to attend so families can stay informed and prepared ahead of the new football season.

The Georgia High School Association has finalized its football region alignments for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, giving both Chattooga High School and Trion High School a clearer picture of the road ahead.

The camp is open to children ages 5 through 12 and will run each evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Participants will receive skills, drills, and instruction from Trion coaches and players, giving young athletes a chance to learn fundamentals and improve their game.

The cost is $30 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. Payment and registration will be accepted the day of camp at the stadium. Cash or checks will be accepted, with checks made payable to Trion Football.
