Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia can expect another stretch of typical summer weather this week, with warm afternoons and scattered showers and thunderstorms developing each day.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 88 degrees before showers and thunderstorms become likely after 5 p.m. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.
Forecasters say an upper-level low pressure system will remain over the Tennessee Valley through midweek, helping trigger daily afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Rainfall totals are not expected to be excessive overall, although isolated areas could experience brief heavy downpours.
The pattern changes very little through Friday, with highs remaining in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees and overnight lows near 70. Daily rain chances will continue each afternoon before gradually diminishing after sunset.
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s as high pressure begins to build across the Southeast. Afternoon thunderstorms will remain possible each day, and increasing humidity will push heat index values into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the forecast for changing weather conditions and seek shelter if thunderstorms develop.
