Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County, will stay dry and cool through Saturday as high pressure remains in control of the region. Forecasters say these dry conditions, combined with low humidity and breezy northwest winds, may create elevated fire danger across parts of north and central Georgia.
Residents are urged to use caution with any outdoor burning, as humidity levels this afternoon will drop into the teens and twenties and winds could gust over 20 miles per hour.
Temperatures today will stay on the cooler side, with highs in the 40s and 50s across the region. Overnight lows will fall back into the 20s and 30s early Saturday, before warming slightly into the upper 40s to lower 60s for the afternoon. Clouds will gradually increase late Saturday as moisture slowly returns.
The bigger change arrives Sunday as a cold front approaches from the west, bringing scattered to widespread rain from Sunday through Tuesday. While most of Chattooga County will see only rain, forecasters say there is a low chance—around 30 percent or less—of a brief wintry mix in the higher elevations early Sunday morning. Any frozen precipitation would be light and short-lived.
After the front moves through, the pattern turns unsettled again early next week with additional rain chances Monday and Tuesday.
