The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair has wrapped up for another year, but residents who enjoy the sights, sounds and food of a fall fair still have plenty of opportunities ahead.
From September through late October, several fairs are scheduled within driving distance of Chattooga County — and two of Georgia’s major statewide fairs are also coming up.
Polk County Fair — September 9-12
One of the first nearby events will be the Polk County Fair in Cedartown, scheduled for September 9-12.
The annual fair is sponsored by the Exchange Club of Cedartown and traditionally includes carnival rides, games, food, exhibits and entertainment.
The Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs lists Polk County among the first county fairs on Georgia’s September calendar.
Northwest Georgia Regional Fair — September 11-19
What many area residents traditionally know as the Gordon County Fair is the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair, held at the Cherokee Capital Fairgrounds in Calhoun.
The 2026 fair is scheduled for September 11-19.
The event combines a carnival midway with agricultural exhibits, livestock competitions, 4-H and FFA activities, youth exhibits and entertainment.
North Georgia State Fair — September 24-October 4
One of Georgia’s largest fairs opens later in September.
The North Georgia State Fair runs September 24 through October 4 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta.
Nearly 300,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is considered Georgia’s second-largest fair. It features carnival rides, food, agricultural and livestock exhibits, competitions, attractions and free concerts.
Georgia State Fair — October 2-11
The Georgia State Fair will be held October 2-11 at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, south of Atlanta.
The fair includes a large carnival midway along with a petting zoo, animal attractions, thrill shows, Dino Adventures and other family entertainment.
The fair opens at 4 PM on Fridays and weekdays, noon on Saturdays and Sundays, with closing times varying by day.
Coosa Valley Fair — October 6-10
For Chattooga County residents, one of the closest major fairs is the Coosa Valley Fair in Rome, scheduled for October 6-10.
Known for generations as “Fall’s Finest Festival,” the Coosa Valley Fair has been a Northwest Georgia tradition since 1949.
Sponsored by the Exchange Club of Rome, the fair combines carnival rides and games with agricultural exhibits, livestock, competitions, food and entertainment.
Georgia National Fair — October 8-18
Another of the state’s biggest events follows just days later.
The Georgia National Fair in Perry will be held October 8-18 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter.
The 11-day fair places a major emphasis on Georgia agriculture, with livestock and agricultural competitions, horse shows, exhibits and the Georgia Grown building. Visitors will also find carnival rides, concerts, arts and crafts, food and nightly fireworks.
That means Georgia actually has both the Georgia State Fair in Hampton and the Georgia National Fair in Perry coming up in October.
DeKalb County VFW Fair — October 16-24
Across the state line in Northeast Alabama, the DeKalb County VFW Fair in Fort Payne is scheduled for October 16-24.
The annual fair is another popular option for residents of Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia because of its relatively short drive. The nine-day event will include midway rides, games, food and other traditional fair attractions.
North Georgia Fair In Dalton — October 15-25
Fair season will also continue in Dalton with the North Georgia Fair, scheduled for October 15-25.
The Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs lists the Dalton event among a particularly busy stretch of Georgia fairs during the second half of October.

For residents looking to plan a fall fair trip, some of the major upcoming dates include:

So while the midway has closed in Chattooga County, fair season is far from over. From nearby Rome, Calhoun, Cedartown and Fort Payne to the larger state fairs in Marietta, Hampton and Perry, residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy another fall fair between now and the end of October.
