The race to replace U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene continues to grow, with four more Republicans filing paperwork, bringing the total to 20 candidates registered with the Federal Election Commission so far.
Greene, a Rome Republican, has said she plans to resign effective Jan. 5. After that, Gov. Brian Kemp is expected to call a special election to fill the seat through the end of the year. There will be no party primaries—all qualified candidates will appear on the ballot at the same time.
So far, two Democrats have filed: Shawn Harris of Rockmart and Clarence Blalock of Hiram, along with one independent, Rob “Rush” Ruszkowski of Rising Fawn. The other 17 candidates are Republicans.
Among the Republicans who have launched campaigns is State Sen. Colton Moore of Trenton, who currently represents Chattooga County and surrounding counties in Georgia’s 53rd State Senate District. New GOP filings also include Reagan Box of Armuchee—who switched from a U.S. Senate campaign to the House race—plus Jacqueline Cherise Wilmer of Augusta, Thomas Jonathan Jackson Gray of Powder Springs, and Meghan Strickland of Marietta.
Georgia’s 14th District covers Chattooga and much of Northwest Georgia, including Floyd, Polk, Walker, Catoosa, Dade, Murray, Paulding, and Whitfield counties, plus part of Cobb.
