Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia are heading into a stretch of dry, breezy weather that could elevate fire danger this weekend, followed by a noticeable warm-up as next week begins.

High fire danger conditions are expected Saturday, driven by extremely low relative humidity levels across much of North and east-central Georgia. Forecasts indicate dewpoints dropping into the single digits and teens, allowing humidity to fall below critical thresholds during the afternoon. While winds are expected to gradually weaken, officials say a Fire Danger Statement is likely, and residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning.

Before Saturday arrives, Friday will be breezy, especially during the afternoon. Northwest winds could gust between 20 and 25 mph, with stronger gusts in higher elevations of North and Northeast Georgia. Despite the wind, temperatures will feel milder, reaching the mid-50s to lower 60s across the region, including Chattooga County. Overnight lows will fall back into the 30s.

A cold front moves through Saturday, shifting winds to the northwest and ushering in a cooler, much drier air mass. Highs will trend cooler overall, with 40s north of I-85 and 50s farther south, placing much of Northwest Georgia on the milder side of that divide.

Looking ahead, the long-term outlook turns warmer and more spring-like. By late weekend into early next week, high temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 60s, with some locations in the region potentially reaching the 70s. Overnight lows will also moderate, settling into the low to mid-40s.

The next chance for rain appears Wednesday afternoon, but impacts look minimal. Forecasts suggest only light showers, with rainfall totals staying under a tenth of an inch. No thunderstorms are expected.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware this weekend, especially regarding fire safety, and to enjoy the warmer temperatures expected as the new week unfolds.
