The Friends of Sloppy Floyd were honored this week with the Chapter of the Year award during their monthly meeting.

Damon Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, presented the award to Martha Stamps, President of the local chapter.

The Friends of Sloppy Floyd is one of 57 volunteer chapters across Georgia that support state parks and historic sites through fundraising events and countless volunteer hours. The local group helps enhance and maintain James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park through projects such as park cleanups, educational programs, and community engagement—working alongside park staff to make the park a better place for everyone to enjoy.

The chapter also emphasized its continued mission of stewardship and conservation, promoting environmental awareness while building community support for the park and its visitors.

Friends of Georgia State Parks also notes the Sloppy Floyd chapter is known for supporting events like an Easter Egg Hunt, car shows, the Twisted Ankle 5K, and Outdoor Adventure Day, along with ongoing volunteer support that helps park staff and visitors year-round.

Officers listed for 2026 include: Chair Martha Stamps, Vice Chair Elaine Thomas, Secretary Hannah Reynolds, Treasurer Jeff Reynolds, and Volunteer Coordinator Randy Smith.
