Georgia’s 2026 turkey season is underway, and early outlooks suggest hunters could see improved opportunities in the woods this spring, according to Georgia Outdoor News.
The statewide season opened on private land March 28 and opens on public land, including Wildlife Management Areas, on April 4, running through May 15.
Wildlife experts say recent years have shown stronger turkey reproduction, meaning hunters may encounter more two-year-old gobblers this season — typically the most active and responsive birds during spring hunts.
However, conditions can still vary depending on weather, habitat, and hunting pressure. Hunters in Northwest Georgia, including areas like Chattooga County, may find success by focusing on early morning activity along ridges, creek bottoms, and open strutting areas where birds are most active.
State regulations remain in place limiting hunters to one gobbler per day and two per season, as wildlife officials continue efforts to manage and rebuild turkey populations across Georgia.
Georgia Outdoor News reports that while optimism is growing, patience and scouting will still be key factors for a successful season.
