A high-impact winter storm is expected to bring significant icing to Chattooga County and parts of Northwest Georgia this weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an Ice Storm Warning. The warning is in effect from 7:00 AM Saturday until 10:00 AM Monday.

The Ice Storm Warning includes Chattooga County, along with Catoosa, Dade, Walker, and Whitfield Counties. Forecasters say ice accumulations between one-quarter and three-quarters of an inch are possible, with winds gusting up to 30 mph—a combination that increases the risk for downed trees and power lines.

Emergency officials warn that impacts could be severe. Power outages and tree damage are expected, and travel could become extremely hazardous or even impossible at times. Conditions may also affect the Monday morning commute, especially where icing persists into early Monday.

In addition to the ice threat, forecasters say dangerously cold nighttime temperatures are expected from Monday into at least midweek, which could create additional concerns for those without power and for vulnerable populations.

Residents are urged to review emergency plans now and prepare for extended disruptions. Travel is strongly discouraged during the warning period. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend keeping emergency supplies in your vehicle, including a flashlight, food, and water. The latest road conditions can be obtained by dialing 511.
