Young entrepreneurs in Chattooga County are being recognized for their innovation and hard work through the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce’s FLEX program.
The FLEX program, which stands for Foundational Leadership and Entrepreneurial Experience, is designed to give high school students real-world business training. Participants develop business ideas, receive mentorship, and present their plans in a competitive setting similar to a “Shark Tank”-style pitch event.
This year’s top honor went to Olivia McKinney, who was named the Chattooga FLEX Champion and awarded $3,000 for her business, Blessed Braids. McKinney will now advance to the statewide competition in Tifton, where she will compete for a $10,000 grand prize.
Finishing in second place were Isabella and Harrison Mason of QualiCare Pets, earning $1,500, while Beydaly Gabriel-Diaz placed third with BeyO, receiving $750.
The prize money was made possible through support from the Tillotson-Menlo Charitable Foundation, along with contributions from local mentors, trainers, judges, and community sponsors.
Organizers say the FLEX program continues to play a vital role in preparing students for future careers by teaching leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial skills, while giving them the opportunity to turn their ideas into real businesses.
