The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce is preparing to launch the 2026-2027 Georgia FLEX program, giving local high school students an opportunity to develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills through hands-on experience and community involvement.

Chattooga Curtain Call will bring the Broadway musical Newsies Jr. to the stage today and tomorrow, continuing its tradition of giving local students opportunities to perform and develop their talents in the performing arts.

The production features a cast of area students who have spent the summer rehearsing the high-energy musical, which is based on the true story of the 1899 New York City newsboys’ strike. The family-friendly show follows a group of young newspaper sellers who join together to demand fair treatment while learning lessons about courage, friendship and teamwork.

Chattooga Curtain Call is a local nonprofit organization that has provided theater experiences for students throughout Chattooga County and surrounding communities for more than a decade. The organization helps young performers build skills in acting, singing and stage performance while supporting the performing arts locally.

Performances are scheduled for today at 7 p.m. and tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Connect City Church.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased through Venmo at @Chattooga-Curtain-Call. Buyers will receive confirmation and their tickets will be held at the door. Tickets may also be purchased at the door with cash or check.

CRC Back to School Bash Serves 500 Trion and Chattooga Students

The Community Resource Center’s 2026 Back to School Bash helped 500 students from Trion and Chattooga County prepare for the new school year.

According to Maisha Ludy, each student received a backpack filled with school supplies. Families also had access to additional community resources designed to help them begin the school year with the support they need.

Organizers thanked the volunteers, community partners, donors and others who contributed their time, resources and encouragement to make the event possible.

Ludy said the strong community support made a meaningful difference for local children and families as students prepared to return to the classroom.

The annual event reflects the Community Resource Center’s continued commitment to serving families throughout Trion and Chattooga County.

Organizers are asking for community support as preparations continue for the annual Back to School Bash for Trion and Chattooga students.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 4 until 6 p.m. and will include music, free back-to-school haircuts, shaved ice treats, community resources, and support for students preparing for the new school year.

Maisha Ludy with Chattooga Family Connection says school supply donations are still needed. Items currently being requested include notebook paper, binders, dividers, markers, colored pencils, highlighters, composition books, glue sticks, and scissors.

Those who would like to donate supplies may contact Ludy at 706-388-9849 or email maishaludy@gmail.com.

Monetary donations are also being accepted. Donations may be made at United Community Bank to Chattooga County Collaborative, through CashApp at $MaishaLudy, or through Venmo at @Maisha-Ludy.

Organizers say every donation, large or small, will help support local students and families as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
