Summerville Police responded to the Pay-n-Tote on Lyerly Highway last week after a man allegedly confronted an employee and made threatening statements, according to an incident report from the Summerville Police Department.

Officer J. Pledger was dispatched to the business around 1:49 p.m. on August 13 after a complaint was made that an individual was harassing an employee.

According to the police report, employee Richard Humphreys Jr. told officers that an unknown man came into the business and became aggressive toward him. Humphreys said he did not know the man, but the individual accused him of stalking his wife.

The employee reportedly told police he did not know who the man was or who the man’s wife was.

During the confrontation, the man reportedly said his wife had already filed a report with the Sheriff’s Office and continued making what police described as subtle threats toward Humphreys.

Video of the encounter was shown to law enforcement, although the report states the audio was difficult to hear clearly.

Police also spoke with two witnesses who were outside when the confrontation occurred. According to the report, both witnesses said that as the man was leaving, he allegedly stated that if the employee was caught on audio and video on his property, he would be shot in the head.

The report notes that Humphreys did not hear that statement himself.

The complainant asked that the man be located and criminally trespassed from the property. Because of the possible location of the individual, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office deputies were advised of the situation and were asked to attempt to locate him.

The Summerville Police Department report does not identify the male subject by name, and no arrest or criminal charge was listed in the narrative provided.
