Northwest Georgia will enjoy a mostly sunny and seasonable Wednesday before rain and thunderstorm chances increase heading into Thursday.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 91 degrees and calm winds. While much of the day should remain dry, isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop later in the day in parts of North Georgia. Any storm that forms could produce frequent lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy with a low around 70. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between midnight and 5 a.m.

Weather conditions become more unsettled on Thursday as a cold front approaches the region. Showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous, especially after late morning. The chance of rain is 30 percent during the day, with a high near 89.

Thursday night, rain chances increase to 50 percent, with showers and thunderstorms possible before 2 a.m. The overnight low will be around 69.

The National Weather Service says storms Thursday could be slow-moving and capable of producing heavy rainfall. Much of North Georgia is under a Level 2 of 4 Slight Risk for excessive rainfall, meaning localized flash flooding could become a concern. A Flood Watch could be issued if conditions warrant. While widespread severe weather is not expected, some storms could produce strong gusty winds.

Rain and storm chances remain at 40 percent Friday, with a high near 88. Conditions begin to improve over the weekend, although isolated afternoon storms will remain possible.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 90 and a 20 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Sunday will also be mostly sunny with a high near 88 and a 20 percent chance of storms.
