Pilgrim’s, one of the world’s leading food companies, has officially broken ground on a new prepared foods facility in Walker County, a major project that leaders say will bring long-term impact to Northwest Georgia. The $400 million investment, first announced in July, is expected to create more than 630 new jobs once the plant is fully operational.
The multi-phase facility is being built in the Walker County Business Park and will produce fully cooked chicken products for both retail and foodservice customers. Products from the new plant will be sold under well-known brands including Just Bare, Pilgrim’s, and Gold Kist. The first phase includes a 300,000-square-foot building, with hiring expected to begin in 2027 as that phase is completed.
Beyond jobs, Pilgrim’s says it plans to extend its Hometown Strong and Better Futures community programs into Walker County. Hometown Strong projects focus on local needs—such as recreation spaces, libraries, food banks, or other community improvements—with Walker County’s specific project still being developed and expected to be announced later.
The project is also getting statewide recognition. The Georgia Economic Developers Association has awarded Walker County the 2025 Mid-Sized Community Deal of the Year Award, highlighting the size and significance of the development.
