State Sen. Chuck Hufstetler of Rome has been honored by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia with a 2026 Legislative Service Award for his work with county governments during this year’s legislative session.

Hufstetler, who chairs the Georgia Senate Committee on Finance, received the award in recognition of his leadership and collaboration on issues affecting county governments and local communities across the state.

The ACCG Legislative Service Awards program recognizes members of the Georgia General Assembly who have worked closely with counties and supported legislation aimed at improving local government operations.

During the 2026 Legislative Session, Hufstetler worked with ACCG and county officials on property tax reform efforts intended to help both taxpayers and local governments.

One of those measures was Senate Bill 566, which updates Georgia’s Notice of Assessment process with the goal of making property tax information easier for taxpayers to understand while also helping counties administer the process more efficiently.

Hufstetler said his own experience in county government has shaped the way he approaches issues affecting local officials.

“As a former County Commissioner, I know firsthand the wide range of responsibilities and challenges that come with the job. Their position is where the rubber meets the road,” Hufstetler said.

He also thanked ACCG for the recognition and praised county commissioners in his district for their professionalism and service to their communities.

ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills said the organization has recognized state lawmakers through its Legislative Service Awards program for more than a decade.

Wills said the awards are intended both to thank lawmakers for their efforts during the legislative session and to highlight the importance of cooperation between state and local government.
