The City of Summerville is celebrating the completion of a major recreational improvement following the installation of new MUSCO Sports Lighting at the Summerville and Fairway ballfields.

The approximately $735,000 project brings upgraded lighting to the athletic facilities, improving visibility, safety and energy efficiency while providing a better experience for athletes, coaches, families and spectators.

City leaders recently marked completion of the project during a ceremony held at the ballfields in conjunction with Summer League Baseball games.

Mayor Rickey Hughes called the project an important investment in Summerville’s parks and recreation programs.

“This is a tremendous investment in our parks, our youth, and our community,” Hughes said. “These new MUSCO lights will allow our ballfields to be used more effectively and provide our athletes and families with a first-class recreational experience.”

Hughes also thanked those who helped make the project possible, including Summerville City Council members Joe Money Jr., Jeff Martin, Zack Martin, Dana Mosley and Simone Adams, along with City Manager Jason Winters.

Members of the Summerville Parks and Recreation Department recognized for their work on the project included Adam Wilson, Brandon Stewart, Shadow Day and Wayne Perry.

The city also thanked project partners Rob Staples with MUSCO Sports Lighting, Casey Brown with Southeastern Lighting and Kristin Croy with United Community Bank for their contributions.

Summerville Parks and Recreation Director Adam Wilson said the new lighting will have a lasting impact on the city’s athletic programs.

“Quality facilities are essential to the continued growth of our recreation programs,” Wilson said. “The new MUSCO lighting will make a tremendous difference for our baseball and softball programs and for everyone who uses these fields.”

The upgraded lighting will support baseball and softball league play, youth recreation programs, tournaments, community events and other activities at the Summerville and Fairway recreation facilities.

City officials say the project is part of Summerville’s continuing effort to improve parks and athletic facilities and provide safe, modern recreational opportunities for children, families and visitors.
