A traffic stop on Highway 114 near Sardis Church Road on the evening of December 6th resulted in the arrest of 28-year-old Zachary Paul Edgeworth on multiple drug-related charges, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy reported spotting a blue Lincoln Town Car traveling westbound without valid insurance. After confirming the lapse through county dispatch, a traffic stop was initiated. The driver, identified as Bobby Battles, told the deputy he was unaware the vehicle had no insurance. A passenger, identified as Zachary Edgeworth, was also inside the vehicle.

During the encounter, Edgeworth reportedly attempted to conceal an item. Deputies observed him retrieve an object and throw it to the ground, which was later identified as a glass container with a white crystal-like substance inside. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Deputies detained the driver and passenger and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. A second passenger was secured while the vehicle was searched. No additional contraband was found beyond the glass container tied to Edgeworth.

Luellan’s Towing removed the vehicle from the scene after the driver was given time to arrange for insurance. Edgeworth was taken to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.

He is charged with:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine

  • Possession of Schedule I Drugs (Fentanyl)

  • Possession of Drug-Related Objects
