The Trion Bulldogs are headed to the Georgia High School Association Class A state football playoffs after completing the 2026 regular season with a 7-3 record.
Trion closed out the regular season Friday night at Sam R. McCain Stadium, falling to BEST Academy of Atlanta by a score of 40-7. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs have put together another successful season and are positioned to continue playing in the postseason.
According to the latest Class A postseason projections, Trion is ranked 15th among the 32 teams in the projected state playoff field. That ranking would give the Bulldogs a first-round home game against McIntosh County Academy, which is projected as the No. 18 seed.
The projected matchup remains subject to confirmation through the official GHSA playoff bracket.
Trion’s seven victories this season included wins over Gordon Lee, Ridgeland, Dade County, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Northview, Greenville and Manchester.
The Bulldogs opened the season with a 36-7 victory over Gordon Lee before falling to Model. Trion then put together a five-game winning streak, including a 42-35 victory over Dade County, a 49-0 shutout of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and a 50-0 victory over Greenville.
After a loss to Bowdon in October, Trion bounced back with a convincing 35-7 victory over Manchester on October 23.
Friday night’s defeat against BEST Academy left both teams with identical 7-3 regular-season records.
Under the GHSA’s postseason ranking system, playoff positioning is determined through a formula that considers a team’s winning percentage, its opponents’ winning percentages and the strength of those opponents’ schedules.
Trion competes in Class A Region 7 under head coach Sean Patrick.
The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the state playoffs, with their first-round opponent and game location awaiting official confirmation.
WZQZ AM 1180 and FM 99.1 will continue following the Bulldogs as they prepare for postseason football.
